This is part of series of photographs of the suitcase leading into Caixa Forum Madrid. Originally, I had envisioned the series as a set of monochrome images. However, when I first processed them I was so pleased with the colour versions that I decided that the monochrome versions could wait. All images of the Caixa Forum staircases, both colour and monochrome, are available here Caixa Forum Madrid.

The Gallery - created in 1880 - is now housed in a glass and granite building designed by architect Moshe Safdie. It opened in this Sussex Drive location in 1988. Meandering through its high-ceilinged rooms and between great granite columns, you feel a bit like you're wandering in a stylized temple built to honor modernity. Its high, angularly arched ceilings put you in mind of a cathedral.
The Renaissance Center (aka GM Renaissance Center) is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers in downtown Detroit, on the shore of the Detroit River. The complex is owned by General Motors, which uses it as its world headquarters. The central tower, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center with its curved glass-clad facade, is the second tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. It has been the tallest building in Michigan since it was erected in 1977. The principal architect was John Portman.

The passageway into the Realm of Night's Embrace.
Okay, it's just the enclosed passageway (a "close" as they are called here) that runs under some of the modern buildings built at the end of the Union Canal to allow pedestrians and cyclists to pass through from the canalside to the main road on the other side of the buildings, but it looked more interesting at night, shot in black and white, so clicky-clicky...
The new Royal Dutch Mint moved from the city of Utrecht to its new location in spring 2020. The modern, gold coloured building is a striking work of architecture.
Union Canal around Fountainbridge, as evening was moving into night, in that strange zone where the sun has gone down quite a while before, but it's not totally dark yet (although it was much darker to the naked eye than to the camera here!)
Tokyu Plaza Ginza is a large-scale commercial center, constructed in Ginza, a traditional commercial district of Tokyo. The external design resembles the faceted glass of the Edo era, acting as a “container of light” made of refined glasswork.

The Szczecin Philharmonic Hall rises like a crown of white peaks against the deep blue sky. Its sharp, geometric gables create a rhythm reminiscent of musical notes climbing a score. Both bold and serene, the building embodies the harmony of architecture and sound.

Royal Bank Tower, Royal Bank Plaza, Toronto, headquarters of RBC and built in the 1970s after the bank decided to move its home office from Montreal to Toronto. The tower is 591 feet tall. The exterior is clad in gold-bronze glass. The North and South towers contain 14,000 windows that project from the facade to form angular bays set into brushed aluminum frames. The glass for the windows was manufactured by Canadian Pittsburgh Industries, and was coloured using 2,500 oz of gold, valued at $70 (Cdn) per pane at the time.

Whilst deciding which images to get printed for my recent Artweeks Exhibition I came across this image of the Birmingham Selfridges. As previously upload it was a full frame shot but I decided it might be stronger cropped to a square format.
In the end I found it hard to select my eight Artweeks images and ultimately decided against featuring this image. You can see the other images I had under consideration here : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157661542431375

the sun played tricks here, casting its lines and shadows on concrete curves. two figures walked the edge, like tightrope walkers on the ground, framed by geometry and reflections in the still water. this is valencia, bold and modern, yet soft and timeless, where light meets structure, and the day whispers its stories.
