26 of 40. A series of largely random pictures taken whilst travelling as a passenger aboard the CMA CGM PUCCINI a 65,000 ton container vessel. The voyage was from London to Perth during February and March 2017. The ship takes up to 6 passengers (initially only my wife and myself) and the route was around Northern Europe, Gibraltar, the Med, Suez Canal, East Africa, Reunion and Fremantle (Perth Australia).
When we took the ferry from SF to Oakland a couple weeks ago, we went past these enormous container ships. A back of the envelope calculation suggests that this particular one had something like 1200 containers on it, though I have no idea what the real number was.
I felt remarkably inadequate on our little ferry.
Garden Project - Day 65
Everything in containers is thriving. The lettuce in that ceramic jug grows unbelievably fast. The rosemary has almost doubled in size, and the chard will start being eaten soon.
sunday.
here i am in a 51' cargo container in chatsville/chatstown/chatsomething new jersey. why am i here? not sure exactly, but i was watching a 40k time trial cycling race and then was told there was a beach involved after so i was all in. i heart the beach. i think it was called long branch beach, it was north of asbury park and south of neptune. i just remember saying "my god i am on the jersey shore, please don't let me step on a needle." it's so strange to be on the east coast again.
beach traffic back to brooklyn, and met my friend tammy at my apt. she's in town from portland (let's see so i've known tammy since 1995, when she used to take care of a 20 pound/3 month old puppy called b'wana while i was at work - this puppy was later to be known in life as simply "the great and powerful schmoo") and we caught up and had dinner and then when she came back i gave her some magnets of my dog i had made after he died and i let her go through the last, like, 20% of his ashes and pick out a bone to take. it may sound gross but it honestly was like the most natural thing in the world to us.
i am glad a little bit of my boy is with his auntie tammy, who he loved so much.

This container, seen in Dublin traffic, is the kind that sits on the trailer of an articulated lorry, or a railway carraige.

this caught my eye in a valley north of wellington. I liked the steel exoskeleton, it seemed to me to be made of two stacked 40ft containers... but then as my mate Bob noted, it could have been made from freezer paneling.
it's a cool bach, for sure.
