Wascosa heeft sinds kort ook containerwagens naast de alom bekende ketelwagens. Deze worden meestal in treinen gemengd met Hupac wagens ingezet, wat op een samenwerkingsverband kan wijzen. De wagens zijn (nog) mooi oranje en ingeschreven in Zwitserland. Dit exemplaar werd gefotografeerd op . De foto is geplaatst met toestemming van de originele fotograaf. Overcrowded jails and prisons are a growing issue in the US and also globally. This demand can now be filled instantly with modular jail and prison cells made from recycled ISBU shipping containers.
One of the companies leading this technology is DRC Logistics in Mobile, Alabama. We were first made aware of this company when their DRC Group corporate office contacted the ISBU Association in April of 2009 for data regarding ISBU specifications, diagrams and governmental approval information.
By June of this year the DRC Group had created a new division named “Jails On Demand” which produces modular jail cells and prison facilities constructed from secure recycled shipping containers. Their modular ISBU jail cells and prison facilities are manufactured in full compliance with the American Correctional Association (ACA) standards and are ready for immediate delivery and installation.
The DRC Group has a very credible 30 year history and experience with much expertise in various construction and manufacturing technologies to assist them as they market the “instant jail” concept. Correctional facilities using ISBU container technology is not new, however DRC has the experience and financial resources to become a global leader of this trend.
Valor is a Spanish Chocolate company that has its origins 1881. This site is their main production facility in Villajoyosa, near Alicante, Spain.
On the same site they offer Museum / Factory tour... the walk from the entrance gate to the Museum building involves passing the factory goods in - we are escorted by the tour leader.
Here we are walking past a truck that has just completed discharging its load of Sugar (note the outlet marked 'Azucar' on the wall).
Earlier, in a moment of brief moment of chaos, we had to walk very close the discharging container (at the time it was at 45 degrees lifted by the tilting trailer) while another articulated truck was reversing out of a bay. This isn't a artificial experience like Cadbury World in Birmingham!

26x16x6 inches and 34 quart capacity, this is Container #1. What the hell is the purpose you ask? The idea that started in my head had a single focus but in today’s world where the price of food may soon go thru the friggin roof, thanks to Obama’s Gestapo Regime, it now has become a two-fold purpose. But that’s another story for another time.
The goat is to build up a food supply for six months that when augmented with fresh fish, crabs and oysters I would have to come to port for only fuel, water or to pump out the holding tanks. This is the first of a planned 10 containers of dry goods. I have placed a few can good items in this one, but the rest of the containers will only hold dry goods.
I have no immediate plans for a trip, but my plans do put me headed to Key West by this time next year. So to ease the pain of supplying the boat right at the last moment when money may be tight and probably will be, I want to pack one of these a month.
Each one will vary in contents and strategically planned so that I don’t have to open them all at once. Each one of them will be labeled with the contents and indexed in a master file for ease of locating specific items. At this time next year I estimate the cost to have built this food stock to be appx. $800-1000. These containers are in addition to the canned meat and veggies that I also will be stocking, as they don’t need to be stored dry.
Inside of each container is a can of moisture control and each container is sealed close to airtight.
I would like to be able to sail to the Caribbean Islands and not have to ever tie to the dock if I so choose. Or at least have the ability to do so for six months. That is the ultimate goal.
Just on a side note…so as it doesn’t come as a big surprise to anyone. Everyone should have food stores. The possibility of needing them in the near future is very real.

These containers are used to send cash from the tills to the office. They are despatched in Lamson tubes. I first came across that name nearly sixty years ago. No-one in the office knew what they were so, in those pre-internet days, one of my colleagues rang the help desk at the Daily Telegraph. Surprisingly I was only talking about them a few days ago and dredged up the name from the deep recesses of my memory 😳

Another visit to Target yielded these, all at half price. Panda bottle is meant for water or sport drink (and isn't it beautiful!). The brown bottle is for cold drinks and has a built-in straw. The Container in foreground will be good for anything, hot or cold.
I am coming around to the view that rather than try to imitate Japanese bento, I should absorb the principles of quality, variety, and presentation, and then apply those to ordinary American foods, packed in readily available containers. Not bento but bento-like. Still I'd like to have some proper containers. One of these days :)
