Argentine Lighthouse in the Cape Virgenes (Cape Virgins),
departamento Güer Aike, provincia de Santa Cruz, ARGENTINA.
Imagen escaneada de una fotografía en papel . . . . . . . . (24 de octubre de 2006)
Situación geográfica: 52o. 21' latitud S. . . . . . . . . . . . . 68o. 21' longitud W.

Tel Aviv-Yafo (Hebrew: תל אביב-יפו pronounced [ˈtel ˈaviv ˈjafo], Arabic: تل أبيب يافا) or Tel Aviv (Hebrew: תל אביב pronounced [ˈtel ˈaviv], Arabic: تل أبيب) is a city in Israel, and the second most populous city administered by that country's government after Jerusalem. Situated on the Mediterranean coastline in central-west Israel, Tel Aviv has a population of 426,138.
Tel Aviv is located around 32°5′N 34°48′E on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline, in central Israel, the historic land bridge between Europe, Asia and Africa. Immediately north of the ancient port of Jaffa, Tel Aviv lies on land that used to be sand dunes and as such has relatively poor soil fertility.
Tel Aviv experiences a Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification: Csa)[93] with hot summers and generally mild, wet winters. The average annual temperature is 20.2 °C (68.4 °F). Average temperature of the sea is 18–20 °C (64–68 °F) during the winter, and 24–29 °C (75–84 °F) during the summer.
Tel Aviv attracts over a million international visitors annually. In 2010, Knight Frank's world city survey ranked it 34th globally.[167] Tel Aviv has been named the third "hottest city for 2011" (behind only New York City and Tangier) by Lonely Planet, third-best in the Middle East and Africa by Travel + Leisure magazine (behind only Cape Town and Jerusalem), and the ninth-best beach city in the world by National Geographic.[168][169][170] Tel Aviv is consistently ranked as one of the top LGBT destinations in the world.[171][172]
Tel Aviv is the fifth-most-visited city in the Middle East & Africa.[12][13] It is known as "the city that never sleeps" and a "party capital" due to its thriving nightlife, young atmosphere and famous 24-hour culture.[14][15][173] Tel Aviv has branches of some of the world's leading hotels, including the Crowne Plaza, Sheraton, Dan, Isrotel and Hilton. It is home to many museums, architectural and cultural sites, with city tours available in different languages.[174] Apart from bus tours, architectural tours, Segway tours, and walking tours are also popular.[175][176][177] Tel Aviv has 44 hotels with more than 6,500 rooms.[107]
The beaches of Tel Aviv and the city's promenade play a major role in the city's cultural and touristic scene, often ranked as some of the best beaches in the world.[170] Hayarkon Park is the most visited urban park in Israel, with 16 million visitors annually. Other parks within city limits include Charles Clore Park, Independence Park, Meir Park and Dubnow Park. About 19% of the city land are green spaces.[178]
Tel Aviv is an international hub of highly active and diverse nightlife with bars, dance bars and nightclubs staying open well past midnight. The largest area for nightclubs is the Tel Aviv port, where the city's large, commercial clubs and bars draw big crowds of young clubbers from both Tel Aviv and neighboring cities. The South of Tel Aviv is known for the popular Haoman 17 club, as well as for being the city's main hub of alternative clubbing, with underground venues including established clubs like the Block Club, Comfort 13 and Paradise Garage, as well as various warehouse and loft party venues. The Allenby/Rothschild area is another popular nightlife hub, featuring such clubs as the Pasaz, Radio EPGB and the Penguin. In 2013, Absolut Vodka introduced a specially designed bottle dedicated to Tel Aviv as part of its international cities series.
Carne
Clara, delgado y bastante delicado. Delicioso en bastante poco tiempo.
Olor
Inicialmente agradable, vainilla, luego bastante desagradable, como "estiércol".
Sabor
no particular.
Esporas

Apart from a brief spell of eight return workings in May by 014, there has not been consistent Class 92 haulage on the 6X41/6L48 Dagenham-Garston car circuit since early February. This looks to be changing, with 92044 being sent north from Wembley to Crewe on 24 September to then move to Garston the following day to replace the incumbent shed.
The last Class 92 in original Railfreight "Triple Grey" livery to be running on Network Rail metals, GBRf's 92 044 "Couperin" - complete with original tunnel rings and Crewe Electric depot plaque - eases the (almost) empty STVAs through Acton Bridge on 6L48 Garston Car Terminal to Dagenham Dock Reception.
When a step sends us sliding on a glass land,
we learn wariness.
We’ll believe second, letting others take the lead;
examining the benefits of believing -
an environment much won.
As life’s afternoons disappear
and the daily dark comes so soon,
we mark any opposite with warning -
too busy alive, being one...
A thin divide,
we step out onto glass each waking day,
an average magazine couple
come in years to material age,
learning the new dozen mean words
we use along the red answer -
and that’s
only consistent
with how we see ourselves and our lives
on the hungry edge...
not much more than idea animals
of spot purpose and chance effect.
And that glass plane so square
we try to walk on...
Wouldn’t we stick suggested to what felt familiar?
Glass like ice, cold for space...
Beneath us lies a proper place
for hungry lives to go for nourishment...
We, an all-season age
entered upon
now huge minutes;
a found notice lay growing;
a solution of bread and fishes to hunger,
seeing the glass now clear and limitless beneath -
and that makes us question
what we’ve believed to be...
what we’ve believed to be
those fatal edges where the drop has horror to it...
Maybe they’re there – maybe not...
and even if they are – those limits so like walls
despite their opposite fall –
now we know, seeing clear beneath us,
that down there beneath us,
where we for so long
have lived apart
only on the sliding surface,
used to choring effort just to keep a level pace –
that down there beneath us...
grows the rest of us...
alive in this same life...
as much of us as any waking day can win,
and more than we can ever know...
and if we didn’t try to find that out –
what more we may become –
what opens up our afternoons,
multiplies our hunger in so many other ways -
even as our taste is satisfied by fishes
and miraculous bread...
if we didn’t try to find that out –
as worlds swing open wide –
where’s the fun in that?

Re: "On A Glass Land" - Punctuation has been revised from the version of the poem appearing in my book "Hit Head On." Also, italics was added for this online version. Originally I added italics to simulate the way I deliver the poem in oral presentation, but it seemed to muddy the reading of it more than clarify a difficult poem; so I removed the "emphasis" italics.
The photo was taken at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, on Monday March 27. I'd completed the second weekend class in a course on Life Coaching - something that feels closer than anything encountered in my 50 years to being what I want to do when I grow up - and took Monday off too. There was percolating from the weekend goin' on. I drove west in the early morning, not knowing where I would end up or what I'd be doing exactly - just that I wanted to walk, to think, to contemplate, to take pictures, and to read the course materials. On impulse I turned off Route 81 and entered the city, and by following something undefined in me, parked near the college. I walked for a long time - through the campus, then out into residential streets. It was a mulling stroll, not my usual exercise walk (when I do walk, that is - I've been out of the habit lately). The rest of the morning was spent reading, most of the time outside in the sun, sitting in a chair in a grassy courtyard at the law school, the wind clicking the branches of the trees.
I'm on a glass land alright... It's not been once and done - discovering my layer habitat, then keeping that learning. Relearning, I've found, has had to be built into my way of living - reinforcement of knowing - or else it fades... unknowing.... "Life is always pulling you away from the understanding of life." (Anne Morrow Lindbergh) Don't I know it! :)
On the way back to my car I noticed the reflection in the window you see in the photo, stopping abruptly a few paces past the window, then walking backwards to bring the reflection again into view. I might wish for a shot where the window's crosspieces were more symmetrical. But then the reflection wouldn't be like this. I worked with what I had, and made it what you see, enhancing the color and bringing out the blacks and oranges more. The trees reflected in the window were distorted in the first place, the window making them more so. (Check it out on the larger size setting - the intricate lines and the colors are really cool.)
There's something about the photo that speaks to me... the separate panes too... It's not what I originally had in mind for a photo accompanying "On A Glass Land" - I'd thought I'd use something that was definitely evocative of a walking surface - something that would match the theme of there being a "beneath." This photo isn't like that. Literally, anyway. Yet it seems to work with the poem.
And that's one of the best qualities of life and living, ya know? The possibilities... The never knowing from one moment to the next what sure plan will marvelously transmute in a sense of wonder... and through that wonder, for that moment and maybe longer yet, it all feels different... the world... you... You know with certainty that the world and you and everything really is like this - the way you now see it... and potential fills where habit and daily plodding normally live...
There's the fun in that...

Top L - Male House Finch. Top R - Male Purple Finch
Bottom L Female House Finch. Bottom R - Female Purple Finch
In a park feeding area here we are seeing both House Finches and Purple Finches sometimes simultaneously. There has been a lot of discussion regarding ID. I hope the images and descriptions below are helpful.
In terms of the females of each species, the Purple Finch has a dark patch behind the eye usually with a prominent white line extending behind the eye and a darker, less streaked cap.
The breast and flank streaking on the female House Finch is more continuous and less sharply defined than the interrupted and usually darker and more defined streaks on the female Purple Finch.
The bills are an important defining feature between these species that applies to both genders. The bills of the Purple Finch are heavier and more triangular than the House Finch.
The bill of a House Finch is more curved overall with an obvious curve on the upside of the top mandible (culmen).
As far as the males go, the red on the male Purple Finch is usually a deeper more raspberry red colour which extends over the entire head and down the back and wings. The wing covert edges have a red hue. There is no red colour there on the male House Finch. The male House Finch has brown streaking on the flanks. The male Purple Finch shows a series of red blotches. The male Purple Finch also has a dark patch behind the eye like the female Purple Finch.
It is not seen in these shots, but the Purple Finch has a deeper tail notch than the House Finch.
Male House Finches can have various amounts of red, orange, or yellow colour and in various tones and intensity around the top of the head and down the breast, depending on the region in which they live and what they eat, but show no colour on the back and wing bars like the Purple Finch whose colour is more consistent.

Y punto.

Hugo Chavez's government has taken several actions against the media in Venezuela. In recent years has caused the closure of many radio stations and television channels for not agreeing with their ideology: socialism.
Yesterday, again, a TV channel ceased to be an information and entertainment option for Venezuelans thanks to a measure decreed by Chavez's government.
Less options, less alternatives can't mean more freedom for the people. Freedom of speech in Venezuela has become a mess during the last 10 years.
Sorry to touch the political issues of my country, but there is a moment that I can't give this all that aside.
This is Jim. He’s just one of the many Portland street musicians I see on a consistent basis. I photographed Jim five years ago but never actually met him. I decided to introduce myself but in between songs. He was personable and open to having his picture taken, again. This time I used my iPhone as the Max Train was passing by. Then I converted the image to monochrome just so everyone could appreciate the black and white beard. You gotta love it! See the image I took of Jim back in 2011 in the comments box below.
Nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon is a large canyon, about ten miles long and up to 3,600 feet deep.
Formed by erosion from the Waimea River, the canyon boasts a colorful array of red, brown and green hues which are complimented by waterfalls and frequent rainbows.
Challenging hiking and hunting trails wind through the canyon.
Two lookouts, the Puu ka Pele and Puu hinahina, have parking and provide breathtaking views.

Kauai.
Hawaiian Kaua‘i, volcanic island, Kauai county, Hawaii, U.S. It lies 72 miles (116 km) northwest of Oahu island across the Kauai Channel. The northernmost and geologically the oldest of the major Hawaiian islands, it is also the most verdant and one of the most scenic and is known as the Garden Isle; the name Kauai is of uncertain origin. The nearly circular island is dominated by Mount Waialeale, rising to 5,243 feet (1,598 metres) at the island’s centre. The mountain slopes are dissected by fertile valleys and deep fissures, and the island is fringed in coastal areas by marginal lowlands. Waialeale’s summit is considered one of the wettest places on Earth, averaging some 450 inches (11,430 mm) of rain annually. Kauai has Hawaii’s only consistently navigable rivers.

ENGLISH
Lund University (Swedish: Lunds universitet) is a public university, consistently ranking among the world's top 100 universities. The university, located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden, traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund next to the Lund Cathedral, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Scandinavia. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.
Lund University has eight faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 42,000 students in 302 different programmes and 2,046 freestanding courses. The University has some 600 partner universities in over 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network.
Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, which is a world-leading[peacock term] synchrotron radiation laboratory – inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023.
The university centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.
Lund University library was established in 1668 at the same time as the university and is one of Sweden's oldest and largest libraries. Since 1698 it has received legal deposit copies of everything printed in the country. Today six Swedish libraries receive legal deposit copies, but only Lund and the Royal Library in Stockholm are required to keep everything for posterity. Swedish imprints make up half of the collections, which amount to 170,000 linear metres of shelving (2006). The library serves 620,000 loans per year, the staff is 200 full-time equivalents, and the 33 branch libraries house 2600 reading room desks. The current main building at Helgonabacken opened in 1907. Before that, the old building was Liberiet close to the city's cathedral. Liberiet was built as a library in the 15th century, but now serves as a cafe.

Weak and singular and odd!
(John Newton)
A consistent Christian, whose integrity, humility, and philanthropy, mark his character and adorn his profession--will in time command respect.
But his attachment to the unfashionable truths of the Gospel, and his separation from the maxims and pursuits of the world--will render him weak and singular and odd in their eyes.
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you!" John 15:18-19
Hope everyone is having a fab weekend!! My baby said 3 words this past week!! I can't believe it! He had such a great week. He said "hi", "wow", and "no". Still nothing consistent but he is trying and I am thrilled!!

"Freewill"
There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance
A planet of play things
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
'The stars aren't aligned
Or the gods are malign...'
Blame is better to give than receive
[Chorus:]
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill
There are those who think
That they were dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them
They weren't born in Lotusland
All preordained
A prisoner in chains
A victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face
You can't pray for a place
In heaven's unearthly estate
[Chorus]
Each of us
A cell of awareness
Imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends
With uncertain ends
On a fortune hunt that's far too fleet
A constant. A consistent. A word. I am a believer. Tried and True, indeed.

Jem is the house. A little bit kinky, a tad bit warped, yet standing beautiful and proud despite the passing of time. It’s a very special house and there is not another one like it anywhere. It has so many rooms, all full of glorious treasures yet to be discovered and cherished. The foundation is solid and the framing has been reinforced with honorable and faithful craftsmanship. The fireplace at its heart burns strong and provides much comfort and warmth…
Matthew is the tricycle. He has spent a life trying to escape. However, as a result of all his journeys an epiphany has come and he has been filled with the wisdom to understand that he really has not been trying to escape. He has been searching and seeking to find the right home, a home to feel safe in, a home built of trust, a home filled with loyalty, and above all, a home to park his tricycle, so that he can finally rest his weary soul. This explains why the tricycle is headed towards the house…
The birds are our souls learning about one another on a fence fashioned out of, symbols of love…
To say that this is the best photograph I've ever bought on Facebook is a significant understatement. I can't think of second place.
I got this photo in an online auction in one of the ephemera groups. A buyer posts a number of photos at a fixed price (in this case $10) and the photos are sold on a first-come first sold basis. Usually there are 30 to 70 photos in such a sale.
This dealer consistently has 60 photos in his $3 sales. But since this was a $10 sale, he probably had 15 or 20 in this one. If you're not there the instant a sale goes up, you lose out on the best items. Believe me, many collectors and most of the dealers know what the best items are.
One thing working in my favor was that it's easy to pull the trigger on a $3 photo, but you hesitate a moment or two, give a photo a bit more consideration, when you're taking a ten-spot out of your pocket.
However, the real reason I was lucky and got this photo is because, since I don't have the fastest internet connection (some other buyers have significantly faster connections, but we're talking fractions of a second), is that I never go in the front of a sale. The way Facebook allows you to post such a sale means that you can start at the back, with photo #70, say, and click forward to #1, or you can start at the beginning and go to the end.
Starting at the back gives me an edge on photos that are later in the sale, but I miss out on the first good photos. And usually a dealer will front-load a sale, with many of the best items in the beginning.
It's hard for me to believe this dealer didn't know what he had. As you will see, he could have sold the photo for a lot more than I paid for it. Did he miss it? Did he not care? Certainly it will drive me back to his sales, hoping to find another gold nugget.
I did hesitate, for just a fraction of a second, to mark this "s" (no one takes the time to write "sold). Fortunately, that wasn't fatal. I hate myself for hesitating that fraction of a second. I could well have lost out for what would have been a 20th (or less) of a second.
But my "s" went up, and no one bid in the seconds following. And then the fun started. Within seconds, a fellow dealer had said "that's a treasure." A collector immediately said she wanted to buy it. I told her she was first in line, but I didn't commit to selling the photo at a set price. I didn't, in fact, commit to selling the photo.
Then the dealer who said "that's a treasure" sent me a message waving a ( metaphorical) blank check to buy the photo. The woman who had first offered to buy said she would pay $100. When I didn't jump on that we had a long conversation about how she really really really wanted the photo. It had some personal relevance (which she didn't explain) for her. She had realized that $100 wasn't swaying me, and now she too waved a metaphorical blank check. She said she would work overtime to pay for the photo. I think she even said she would get a second job. She said she would have a high-resolution scan made of the photo and have that framed. That would be part of the deal (I would laugh at that as full payment).
So now I had three people who really wanted the photo. I mean REALLY wanted the photo. Desire, expressed desire, gives a seller the advantage. Had I hoped to maximize my return on the photo, I might have proposed a bidding war between my three buyers. If I had made the bidding public, however, I might have alienated those three. There are lots of quibbles and conditions to consider in selling a good photograph.
So I might have said: "I will take bids for 24 hours. I will give everybody updates on the status of the bidding, and there will be a five-minute window at the end where anyone can top the highest bid." The bidders would have had to rely on my honesty. I could, if I were unscrupulous, tell all three that the bid was higher than it actually was.
Here's the big however: I know all three of the potential buyers. One is a fellow dealer to whom I have sold privately, in person, whose knowledge and insight on what he refuses to call "vernacular" photos is formidable, and though I have never seen his collection, I have every reason to believe it is superb. He wasn't going to sell this photo — it was going into his personal collection. Who owns a photo I sell means something to me. I have purposely avoided selling to some people because, well, I don't like them. They don't deserve to own one of my good photos.
The second buyer is a collector who has a collection of both fine art and vernacular photos. I know he is well-fixed financially. He teased me by offering to trade ne a photo of a pretty woman.. I hope he was kidding — his "pretty woman" wasn't that hot.
By now, I thought $300 for the photo was not an unreasonable amount to sell it for. But if I sold it to one of my friends, two would be unhappy. And $300 is but a drop in the bucket compared to the debt I'm in.
What was left for me to do? It's not worth damaging two friendships to make one personal happy.
I'm keeping the photo. It's Not For Sale.

The ES44AH's and ET44AH's have become the normal power for the PAM coal trains since the first were delivered in 2023. Of course, it didn't take long at all for them to become filthy after consistent use in coal service. The silver trucks and underframe on this pair is definitely a welcome sight. 1/25/25.
Well the only things that are consistent with todays scene is the station roof and background building, everything else has changed! Seen on platform one is Class 45, No 45146 in front of three parcels vehicles being loaded with the days mail. No 45146 was just stabling having come off a Trans Pennine turn previously. Siding 'A' still in place but of more interest in the background on Platform Two is the various trollies which were part of the everyday scene at that time. Oh how things have changed, for the better? Who knows! 10th December 1985.

If you want to look at a medical paper with pictures, then this is your lucky day! Any doctors want to comment on this study?
“All of the abnormal blood samples of injected persons, the 948 cases, showed tubular/fibrous formations and frequently also crystalline and lamellar formations with extremely complex but consistently similar morphologies across all of the patients with abnormal blood samples. Our results are so similar to those of Lee et al. (2022) that it could be claimed that, except for our innovative application of dark-field microscopy to mark the foreign metal-like objects in the blood of mRNA injections from Pfizer or Moderna, we have replicated the blood work of the Korean doctors with a much larger sample. Our findings, however, are bolstered by their parallel analysis of the fluids in vials of the mRNA concoctions alongside centrifuged plasma samples from the cases they studied intensively. What seems plain enough is that metallic particles resembling graphene oxide and possibly other metallic compounds, like those discovered by Gatti and Montanari (Montanari & Gatti, 2016; Gatti & Montanari, 2012, 2017, 2018), have been included in the cocktail of whatever the manufacturers have seen fit to put in the so-called mRNA “vaccines”. In our experience as clinicians, these mRNA injections are very unlike traditional “vaccines” and their manufacturers need, in our opinions, to come clean about what is in the injections and why it is there.”

"Entering the Lady Chapel, visitors are faced by a large window consistent with those in the nave. Superimposed on this window are two remarkable panels removed from the Chapel on Queen Street: King David and St. Peter. These figures are the work of the McCausland Glass Company of Toronto. Some of the windows from Old Trinity were saved in part through the efforts of Canadian stained glass artist Yvonne Williams. Her other contribution here is the six small windows within the Lady Chapel. She used four panels of early glass, a gift to the College, incorporating them into her design. They include the Annunciation, dating from about 1500, and two later armorial panels. Due to an extremely unfortunate situation which I will explain in a coming post, I'm in the market for a new camera body.
I've been doing lots of research but still need help from my awesome (and super knowledgable) followers ---> Canon 6D vs 7D Mark ii? My previous body was a 70D.
I'm looking for a full-frame camera this time around, but it seems the 7d Mark ii is a superior build and a better performance machine. If you have thoughts or suggestions, please help me out in the comments.
And, is it worth splurging for the mark iii? I can't seem to decide - the 7D mark ii seems like the ideal camera, but the fact that it doesn't have a full frame sensor may bother me, since it consistently has with my 70D. The mark iii is out of my price range, but an incredible camera.
This is another sunset shot from my great evening at Hermosa Beach back in October. I meant to post this weeks ago however the weather started becoming more consistently favorable and my shooting once again started to outpace my uploading. After such a long summer of no clouds and hazy skies, I got back into my routine a bit as soon as the weather shifted more into "Autumn".
I left to shoot relatively early--at least by my standards--and had planned to go to Laguna Beach but unexplainable early afternoon gridlock on Sunset Boulevard and all parallel streets, it soon became apparent that Laguna was out out the equation. Even worse, I had now wasted nearly an hour going very slowly in the opposite direction that I normally would. Granted, I only went a few miles out of the way but it still cost me a few other options if I wanted to arrive before sunset. I headed towards Santa Monica and figured I'd stop by there and if parking wasn't quick, would just drive the few miles over to Venice but about 20 minutes away, I changed my mind again and set the GPS to Hermosa. I had only spent a little time in Hermosa, Manhattan Beach and a few of the surrounding arounds back in January but remembered it being a place I wanted to return. I was so glad I did.
There weren't many people by the pier during the time I arrived and that also applied to the rest of the town. Almost no foot or vehicle traffic anywhere and parking was readily available adjacent to the pier which was surprising. I did intend to take about half my shots as long exposures and the rest with quicker shutter speeds and that's essentially what I did. What I didn't do was any panoramas and I basically didn't move the entire time I was shooting. My only movement was to shuffle left and right a little to avoid either the direct glare from the sun or to position the sun and shadows better and my focal length ranged mostly from 18-35mm on the evening.
About a year ago when I was still back in the DC area, I had become completely obsessed with long exposures and I vividly remember thinking that this was the type of photography I wanted to primarily do and couldn't imagine enjoying anything more. Now, out here, I try to be a bit better with my use of time and as a result, long exposures have become far less frequent and have been replaced by waves, reflection, panoramas and just a much less static representation of what I was seeing. I still love them but I also get very frustrated looking back on evenings where the ND filters rarely come off and I missed some great moments waiting for the long shots to finish processing. I still generally try to take a few longer ones (like in the 60-200 second range) but not as many as I used to since a single image on the higher end of my range might take 4+ minutes from start to finish and I could get dozens of quicker shutter speed shots in the same amount of time.
For this shot, I went with a fast speed for a variety of reasons. Since I was there first, I got the best vantage for lining up the sun with the pier and I waited a while for the sun to start falling fast right over it. I had taken some LE shots before sundown when the sky started getting colorful and planned to take more after the sun dipped beneath the horizon but I really wanted some waves and water movement and the time to fire off a bunch of shots with the sun in a few positions. I'd guess I only had a minute or so of the sun hiding behind the pier and didn't want to waste it on a likely underexposed single long exposure. When I came to the neighboring Manhattan Beach in January, I spent the ENTIRE time with with the ND filters attached to the lens and despite being very happy with the images overall, I didn't want the same thing to happen again.
I ended up with about a dozen from this one position and chose this image because it had the least amount of flaring and glare, I liked the color and pattern of waves and there was a flock of birds going by the pier. Others had a few aspects that might be slightly more interesting but also sacrificed other aspects that were more important to me. I actually do still have a handful more from this evening to post--along with some from about a half dozen trips to Venice and two to around the Hollywood Bowl Overlook--and I hope to post them a bit more. I've only shot once since Scotch had his life saving surgery and have spent most of the last few weeks monitoring him rather than photographing or reviewing images but he's doing great and getting better by the day so I do expect to start shooting more frequently again. Have a great Wednesday everyone!

The Pokot (or Pokhot) live in the Baringo district and in the Western Pokot district in Kenya. They are also inhabitants of Uganda. There are two main sub-groups depending of their location and way of life. The first group consist of the Hill Pokot who live in the rainy highlands in the west and in the central south, and are mainly farmers and pastoralists. The second group is made up of the Plains Pokot who live in dry and infertile plains, with their cattle. A homestead is composed of one or more buildings for a man, his wife and children; the prospective co-wives live in separate houses. Teaching children ethical rules is extremely important. Most of the Pokot are nomadic and thus have interacted with different peoples, incorporating their social customs. The Pokot are very proud of their culture. The songs, storytelling, and decorative arts, in particular body decoration, are very appreciated among the Pokot. They adorn the body with beads and hairstyling, and proceed to scarifications and the removal of the lower central incisors. Pokot girls wear a beaded necklace made of the stems of an asparagus tree. Most Pokot have some knowledge of herbal medicine, so they often use these treatments along with those of the hospitals. They belong to the Kenya's Nilotic-speaking peoples. For the Pokot, the universe has two realms: the above is the realm of the most powerful deities—Tororot, Asis (sun), and llat (rain); and the below is the one where live humans, animals, and plants. Humans are responsible for the realm that they inhabit, but they rely upon divinities to achieve and maintain peace and prosperity. They worship many deities like the sun, moon and believe in the spirit of death. The Pokot communicate with their deities through prayer and sacrifice. They perform it during ethnic festivals and dances. Oracles are responsible for maintaining the spiritual balance within the community. They are superstitious and believe in sorcery, so sometimes they call on shielding lucky sorcery. They have prophets, either male or female, who foresee and advise, usually by the means of animal sacrifices. Their abilities are considered as a divine gift. Clan histories recount the changes of location, through poetry and song, emphasizing the vulnerability of human beings and the importance of supernatural powers that help them overcome hunger, thirst, and even death. Ceremonies mark the transitions in the people's social lives. Among these are: the cleansing of a couple expecting their first child; the cleansing of newborn infants and their mothers; the cleansing of twins and other children who are born under unusual circumstances; male and female initiation; marriage; sapana, a coming-of-age ceremony for men; and summer-solstice, harvest, and healing ceremonies. The most important rite of passage for most Pokot is circumcision for boys and clitoridectomy for girls. These rites consist of a series of neighborhood-based ceremonies, emphasizing the importance of having a good behavior. When boys are circumcised, they acquire membership in one of eight age sets. Women do not belong to any age-set. After excision, for several months, girls have a white painting on their face and wear a hood made of blackened leather with charcoal and oil. This means they are untouchable until the lepan ceremony, that marks the passage to womanhood. Unlike other tribes, the Pokot keep the affiliation to their clan throughout their lives, there is no disruption with marriage. Surprisingly, the agreement before marriage is made by gift giving, from the groom and his family to the bride and her family (and not the contrary), often over a period of years. It often implies the gift of a combination of livestock, goods, and cash to the bride's family, and the allotment of milk cows and rights to land to the bride. The bond between a husband and wife lasts for 3 generations, after what marriages can take place again between the two groups. Polygamy exists but is not prevalent among men before 40. The spirits of the elder anticipate reincarnation in their living descendants: when a child is said to resemble the elder, the same name is given. Disputes are resolved in neighborhood councils and in government courts. Some of the sanctions include shaming, cursing, and bewitching.

The European Shag or Common Shag is a species of cormorant. It breeds here around the rocky coasts of Menorca - Balearic island of Spain. The green sheen on the feathers and green eyes results in the alternative name Green Cormorant. The European Shag is one of the deepest divers among the cormorant family. Using depth gauges, European Shags have been shown to dive to at least 45 metres. They find their prey on the sea bottom. They will eat a wide range of fish but their commonest prey is the sand eel. Shags will travel many kilometres from their roosting sites in order to feed. The dive times are typically around 20–45 seconds, with a recovery time of around 15 seconds between dives; this is consistent with aerobic diving, i.e. the bird depends on the oxygen in its lungs and dissolved in its bloodstream during the dive. When they dive, they jump out of the water first to give extra impetus to the dive. It breeds on coasts, nesting on rocky ledges or in crevices or small caves. The nests are untidy heaps of rotting seaweed or twigs.
From our apartment in Cala'n Bosch on the Spanish island of Menorca we found ourselves nestling between a spectacular coastline and the outstanding natural environments that have earned world-wide acclaim for Menorca. In 1993 UNESCO declared the island of Menorca Biosphere Reserve. UNESCO considered Menorca worthy of this declaration for the diversity of its Mediterranean landscape and the species of animals and plants found exclusively on The island, some of which are in danger of extinction. We explore some unique scenic landscapes on foot. We hike along along the coast line and found this peacefully rural location where we met the Green Cormorants nesting on the rocks. It is located on the South West tip of the island.

A drought is an extended period of months or years when a region notes a deficiency in its water supply. Generally, this occurs when a region receives consistently below average precipitation. It can have a substantial impact on the ecosystem and agriculture of the affected region. Although droughts can persist for several years, even a short, intense drought can cause significant damage and harm the local economy. This global phenomenon has a widespread impact on agriculture.

There hasn't been a lot of snow up on Ben Lomond this winter. The conditions have been very cold and frosty, but the air has lacked the moisture necessary to produce consistent snow falls. Here is a good example of a previous snow fall that has turned to ice. The rest has all melted away.
Consistently voted one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world and on a blue sky day it isn't hard to see why

History
Conwy Castle was begun in 1283 following the successful conquest of Snowdonia by the armies of Edward I of England. It was one of a defensive ring of castles erected around the North Wales coast from Aberystwyth to Flint, and in addition protected a walled town that was the largest of the medieval boroughs of North Wales. Work began with digging the rock-cut ditches, under the direction of Richard of Chester, master engineer. The design of the castle and supervision of building was under the control of James of St George, Master of the King's Works in Wales and the foremost secular architect of his age. Other subordinate master craftsmen included Henry of Oxford and Laurence of Canterbury, both master carpenters, and John Francis who, like James of St George, was from Savoy. The castle and town wall were substantially complete by 1287.
Modifications were made to the buildings in 1346-7 by Henry de Snelleston, mason to Edward, Prince of Wales (the Black Prince). This included replacing original roof trusses and strengthening the roofs by adding masonry arches. By the end of the C15 its military importance was diminishing and the castle slowly decayed. It was described as in poor condition in 1627, and in 1631 it was sold to Charles I's secretary of state, who assumed the title Viscount Conway of Conway Castle. During the Civil War the castle was repaired and fortified for the Royalists under the leadership of John Williams, exiled archbishop of York and a native of Conwy. The castle surrendered in 1646 and in 1655 the castle was 'disabled' by blowing up a portion of the bakehouse tower, making a substantial breach. The castle was restored to the Conway family after the Restoration, when some of the buildings, and the lead roofs, were taken down. Ownership passed to the Seymour family until, in 1865, it was given to the town. During this period there was some restoration and the bakehouse tower was rebuilt by the LNWR, whose railway line passed the foot of the castle. Since 1953, when more substantial conservation work began, the castle has been a guardianship monument in the care of the state.
Exterior
A castle whose compact design is dictated by the rocky outcrop on which its stands. Roughly rectangular in plan, it has a curtain wall with 8 higher round towers enclosing an outer ward on the W side, and smaller near-square inner ward to the E overlooking the river. Additional defence was provided by barbicans at E and W entrances. Walls are coursed rubble, with freestone dressings of pink sandstone. They are embattled with saddleback copings to the merlons, which also have arrow loops on the towers. The round towers have loops and openings of 2-light mullioned windows, although few of the mullions have survived, and higher round stair turrets. Many features are consistent throughout the building, including freestone fireplaces with raked stone hoods, and window seats.
The main entrance from the town is on the W side. It retains part of a ramp on the N side from the modern Castle Square. The gap over which the drawbridge was lowered has been covered by a timber platform. The entrance arch to the W barbican has a pointed arch with portcullis slots, flanked by round turrets with corbel tables. Inside the gateway are later stone steps to a gate passage, where there is a modern breach in the wall for visitor access, and the springers and draw-bar sockets of another gateway. The W barbican has an almost straight wall with 3 turrets. The town wall is attached to the southernmost turret.
Entrance to the E barbican was from the Water Gate. The outer steps have disappeared, probably lost when Thomas Telford built the suspension bridge in 1822-6, but they are shown on the Buck brothers' 1742 engraving of the castle. Steps inside the barbican have survived, but of the doorway in the barbican wall only the draw-bar sockets have survived. The faceted E barbican wall has 3 turrets similar to the W side.
The castle has 8 towers, of which 6 enclose the outer ward, one at the corners and one half way along each of the N and S walls, and 4 enclose the inner ward, of which 2 (stockhouse and bakehouse towers) are common to both inner and outer wards. In the outer ward the S wall is faceted and the W wall is narrower than the E. Otherwise the whole castle is rectangular in plan. The W wall of the outer ward has a pointed arch, below deep corbels of former machicolations. On the N side of the outer ward, both sections of wall have 2 loops and 2 latrine shafts, including one on the W side contained within a shallow projection and low round turret. Attached to the stockhouse tower, between inner and outer wards, is the town wall. The inner ward N wall has 2 loops and 2 low-level outlets of latrine shafts. On the S side each section of the outer ward has 3 windows, 2 loops to the cellar and latrine shaft at wall-walk level. The bakehouse tower between inner and outer wards is partly rebuilt in snecked stone, with a battered plinth of rock-faced stone, repairs carried out by LNWR in the 1870s of the deliberate breach made in 1655. The inner ward S wall has a doorway at ground-floor level above a battered rubble plinth (the only section not built directly on bedrock). At 1st-floor level are 2 loops, a larger opening centre-R, and a former doorway at the R end. Above 1st-floor level are 3 latrine shafts. The E wall, from the E barbican, has a shoulder-headed doorway, 4 1st-floor windows with stepped lintels, and deep corbelled machicolations, although the embattled parapet has not survived.
In the outer ward, the gate passage has portcullis slots and draw-bar sockets, and a high-level door on the S side, to stone steps up to the wall walk. The inner side of the wall is corbelled out at parapet level. The NW and SW towers form a pair. They each have 2 superimposed newel stairs restored in concrete. Both have fireplaces to 1st and 2nd floors. In addition the SW tower has a domed bread oven at ground floor, and latrine to the 1st floor. The kitchen tower in the centre of the N side of the outer ward has a ruined newel stair. The wall walk is corbelled out around its faceted inner side. The prison tower on the corresponding S side has a dungeon, but otherwise similar details to the other towers, including restored newel stairs and ruined fireplaces, except for a 2nd-floor fireplace with flat stone arch instead of a corbelled lintel.
Remains of buildings can be seen against each of the outer ward walls. Of the guard rooms to the W, flanking the gate passage, and kitchen and stables on the N, only footings have survived. Against the S wall is a long faceted range housing lesser hall and a small chamber in the W facet, great hall in the central facet, passage and chapel in the E facet. At the W end are stone steps leading down to a pointed cellar doorway with continuous chamfer. To its L is a pointed window, its tracery missing but originally 2-light. Further L is a similar former 2-light window to the great hall that retains fragments of bar tracery. In the E facet are the passage doorway, the dressings of which are mostly missing and with modern stone steps, and 2-light chapel window, also with fragments of bar tracery. The chapel has a similar former 3-light E window. Inside, this range has one transverse arch and the springers and haunches of 7 others, all inserted in the mid C14 to support the roof. The lesser hall has a fireplace in its W end wall; the small chamber between halls has a N fireplace; the great hall has a fireplace against the prison tower. Access to the prison tower is from the embrasure of one the S windows of the great hall. The cellar has a dividing wall below the chapel with doorway.
On the E side of the outer ward is a stone-lined well, approximately 91 feet deep. Behind the well was a drawbridge to a small gatehouse at the middle gate between inner and outer wards. The gatehouse is square in plan with narrow loop in the W wall. The middle gate has a doorway with shouldered lintel to each end of its passage, and draw-bar socket.
The other entrance to the inner ward, the E gate, has draw-bar sockets, and a passage giving access to mural stairs to the king's tower and chapel tower. The stockhouse and bakehouse towers are similar to the towers in the outer wards. The bakehouse tower has a domed oven behind the ground-floor fireplace, and restored newel stairs. The stockhouse tower has ruined newel stairs. The NE chapel tower has a restored conical slate roof. From the inner ward is a C19 restored doorway with red sandstone jamb to the ground floor. It also has a passage and doorway above the water gate on the outer (E) side. A mural stair leads to the 1st-floor chapel, where there is also a separate latrine. The rib-vaulted chapel is round with an apsidal sanctuary. The sanctuary has wall shafts and cusped arcading, incorporating sedilia on the S side, below 3 pointed windows with leaded glazing. On the S side is a squint from a small cell. On the N side of the chapel is a deep window seat, which also features a squint to the sanctuary. A restored mural stair leads to the upper chamber. The SW king's tower has a restored newel stair. At 1st-floor level is a small keeled tunnel-vaulted chamber.
Buildings are ranged against the walls of the inner ward, including the king's private apartments. Against the S wall are the 1st-floor king's chamber on the E and king's hall on the W (known as presence chamber and privy chamber respectively in a survey of 1627), with a passage to the bakehouse tower at the W end. This passage has a segmental-pointed arch. Two windows to its L have dressings mostly missing, and further L is a segmental-headed ground-floor doorway and another window. Entrance to the 1st-floor hall is by a doorway above the passage, which has a 2-light cusped square-headed window immediately to its L. Further L are 2 hall windows and a 3rd to the king's chamber, all square-headed with relieving arches, bar-tracery fragments and fragments of sunk spandrels. Next L is the wall over the passage to the E gate (later used as a buttery). From inside the passage the range has a ground-floor doorway with chamfered dressings and springers of a possible cambered arch, and at the L end a 1st-floor doorway with segmental head. The W wall of the hall has 2 1st-floor doorways with segmental heads. Inside, beneath the hall is a ground-floor fireplace to the W wall, and larger former corbelled 1st-floor fireplace in the S wall. One floor-length window reveal in the S wall has a short passage to a latrine. Hall and chamber have one complete and the springers of 3 other C14 stone transverse arches supporting the former roof. In the king's chamber the 1st-floor has floor-length S and E window reveals opening to mural passages to a latrine and the king's tower.
Against the E wall of the inner ward are the passage to the E gate, and what was known in 1627 as the 1st-floor great chamber. The passage on the R has a pointed segmental arch, to the L of which the ground floor has a segmental-headed window and a small window further L. The 1st-floor great chamber was entered by a doorway at the R end over the passage, which has a cambered head. The chamber has one large square-headed W window under a relieving arch. Inside, fireplaces were built into the W walls, with tripartite lintel in the ground floor. The springers and haunches survive of 2 former transverse arches added in the mid C14 to support the roof.

I find it surprising that within a fairly close perimeter, say 3 miles, temperature can consistently show variation in the order of 5 or more degrees Celsius.
This particular path is really unique. I won't say "magical" because the word has accrued so many wild meanings over the ages that it's hard to avoid unintentional ambiguity. But there's definitely something out of the ordinary in this locality, and it manifests itself in taking emotional strain off one's shoulders like a gentle vacuum cleaner, and in warming the body even on cold days.
The first time I've experienced this phenomenon I didn't really notice it until I felt my gloveless hands suddenly get hot, and until I realized that my mind had been put at absolute ease—despite arriving in a state of uncomfortable agitation and not having mentally resolved the issues which had triggered it.
Then it happened again. I'd come quite relaxed this time and actually curious if I was going to relive the experience nonetheless. However, something strange occurred, almost as if a spell had been cast, and, absolutely forgetting about my plan, I was sucked into what I could now describe as a different dimension of the woodlands. Some sort of sleet or drizzle was falling, my hands got numb, and my feet instinctively retraced the steps I had taken on the previous walk. After close to an hour, a gradual sensation of thawing came over me; I forgot about the cold, my breathing became slow and even...
Half a mile later, a penetrating, unmistakable chill woke me up from the reverie. The woods were still around me, the trees silently stood guard on both sides of the path; but the ambience was different: more austere, cautious and watchful—a perfect background to the numerous chirrups and bits of birdsong: the sure, even if now only timid, harbingers of spring.
I think this is consistently my most popular colour in a dress. It's weird as it's not my favourite colour in real life. That honour goes to yellow, but it's not a great colour to dress in for me.
Yet again another late entry from me, but hey, at least I'm consistent!! :P
It's certainly no secret that I love coffee, I adore the stuff, I can't start my day without it, which led me to create this image. I said last week that I wasn't going to spend any money this week... I lied! I also said that I wasn't going to be so hard on myself and take it easier... I lied again! Doh.
If I'm being honest I didn't like this weeks theme, I struggled too come up with a half-decent idea and really lacked inspiration. Just like last week I didn't come up with this idea until Thursday evening and then shot on Friday night so the image is a bit last minute again.

Life has ups and downs. If you are a loving parent, you will realize that if you are just consistently there for your child, whether it is picking them up for school, giving them a hug, or just being physically present. They will be at peace. They will be able to overcome any challenges in life because they know you will be there. It is something that I have started noticing the older she gets. I really enjoyed spending this trip with my family, and most importantly my child. She is 8, and growing up faster than I can keep up with. I will insert the story of this trip that I had posted to my personal page. Great experience.
"I had planned a long road trip to San Diego to visit my sister and to shoot a wedding in Laguna Beach. I was a couple days behind my schedule. It was Monday morning, I was set to leave. I pulled over in a store parking lot after filling up the cooler with food for the drive. The gps said 20 hours to go. It was 1130am. I decided to look online for flights to LA. Round trip tickets for my daughter and I were close to 2 grand. I decided to check Vegas, and found a round trip set of tickets for a total of 400. It said 9 spots remaining and the flight would be taking off in 45 minutes. I text my sister and she said she would drop everything and drive 5 hours to Vegas! So we sped across town and got to the airport about 1140. I grabbed my camera bag and my daughters hand. With only the clothes on our backs, we raced inside with laughter and our hearts racing. The lovely lady at the ticket counter was equally excited to try and make this happen for us. She blitzed through the process and we raced to security. We made it just in time. I feel so lucky to wing it with this little explorer. " Thanks to my sister for helping snap this shot.
Our latest Moonless Designs client project. 1/4 sim 8k prims, private home. Beach/Tropical landscaping with a redesign of clients existing very large home. . . With 4 Bedrooms, Games room, Gym, Club, Multiple Bar areas, Office, Garage, Pool and its own private Art Gallery for our Clients favourite pieces it was quite a project.
We often have home redesigns and we love them, but they also pose interesting challenges as designers to recreate the space the client needs, and maintain what they love about the house.
Packing the right amount of detail and not sacrificing space is important to us, and we often go back through the project adding more detail as we cover each area to ensure an overall consistent and practical finish, with no overly packed corners or empty spaces.
We have a lot of our clients bring us key pieces to incorporate into our design and we love making our designs custom to you! This time we were given fantastic sculptures that we used for a personal sculpture art gallery. More interesting items for our next designs please! <3
it was drizzling pretty consistently, Saxon fresh out of his 2 week confinement after knee surgery that wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Even though he has a ball there, I didn't actually throw it for him (well, okay, I did once, he's fine) but he was happy with just carrying it everywhere, while Biscuit got a few retrieves and Treacle dragged my mum along with the long line, rabbit hunting ... actually she took off as soon as we got there, no line on, and we had to chase her down to put it on, she's so naughty, gonna get herself into trouble ...
