Amazing how nature consistently battles anything man puts up. This fence is intertwined with vines from the soil, as man drives the t-post into the soil it just starts to deteriorate.
Orava castle, Slovakia, after sunset, will there be any light on the castle? If so will it be switched on during the blue hour? These are the questions one ponders in Slovakia, as in Spain, there doesn't seem to be a consistent answer in this case. I got lucky (photos coming soon), but a friend who visited a few days prior didn't see any lights on the castle. It's just not Orava, this problem is endemic throughout Slovakia.
One advantage of our consistently cool/cold spring (note the flat grey sky!) is the longevity of the daffodils and other spring flowers. The steep hill of Clayport Bank up and out of Alnwick town centre towards Rothbury has numerous large groups of them. Our home is on the other side of the stone wall towards the top of the image approx. level with the bus-stop.

Eighty seconds of lightning captured across four 20-second exposures and merged into a single shot.
My car wasn't suppose to be in this photo. I was actually setting up to shoot in the opposite direction, but then the lightning started hitting pretty consistently from behind me. Derek and Mike showed up shortly after and started shooting as well. It was a lot of fun.
A cop car is visible if you zoom in. They began setting up a DUI checkpoint as we were wrapping up.
Some of my friends thought this had a Back to the Future vibe, while others thought it had a Stranger Things vibe. What do you think?

A flock of pigeons at sunset
Pigeons and doves constitute the family Columbidae within the order Columbiformes, which include some 300 species of near passerine birds. In general parlance the terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used somewhat interchangeably. In ornithological practice, there is a tendency for "dove" to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones, but this is in no way consistently applied, and historically the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the term "dove" and "pigeon." This family occurs worldwide, but the greatest variety is in the Indomalaya and Australasia ecozones. The doves and pigeons are called "squabs."
Doves and pigeons build relatively flimsy nests from sticks and other debris, which may be placed in trees, on ledges, or on the ground, depending on species. They lay one or two eggs, and both parents care for the babies, which leave the nest after 7 to 28 days. Doves feed on seeds, fruit and plants. Unlike most other birds, the doves and pigeons produce "crop milk," which is secreted by a sloughing of fluid-filled cells from the lining of the crop. Both male and female produce this highly nutritious substance to feed to the babies.

Although we've heard the "Last Hurrah" theory regarding the LS&I boats consistently throughout the last two years, the word is now that additional AC44's should be arriving on the property late 1st quarter of 2022. While this may not guarantee the demise of the old greens, it is certainly a fair presumption since the units generally only run when an AC44 is out of service.
So, despite a rather slim chance of greens, I made a trip to Negaunee two days prior to closing of the Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie. With only 5 crews running on Friday, I was amazed to hear they would indeed run on the 7 Tilden! Whatever the cause, I was incredibly lucky to nab a few shot of the boats on their last run of the season, and possibly ever. The 3000 and 3009 are here seen approaching the 35 crossing on their second return to Eagle Mills.
Questi sostengono arcate a tutto sesto.

*Working Towards a Better World
Viewed with one disposition, history has so far been a horrible accumulation of oppression and suffering. Viewed with another disposition, however, history has chronicled humans discovering their own finer potentials and together mounting heroic offensives to attain them - against monarchy, feudalism, slavery, Jim Crow racism, apartheid, sexual subjugation, second class citizenship, sexism, heterosexism, dictatorship, one party rule, capitalism, and coordinatorism (calling itself socialism) - and seeking, in their place, equity, justice, and freedom. The gains humans have made have been steady and plentiful. Now a major leap is possible. Consistent with past efforts, we can now attain fully liberatory goals, including, I think, participatory economics and also alternative structures for polity, culture, and kinship. We have only to make the effort.

Nowhere have I seen a more consistent adaptation of colors to the environment than in Morocco. In the desert the buildings are red-brown-ochre, but at the sea they are blue-white, like here in Assilah, south of Tangier. The silver-white bicycle contrasts with the blue background, while the blue window is on a white background.
Everything in life takes courage. Each new adventure we take, takes courage and a leap of faith.
“Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.” – Maya Angelou
“One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.” – Maya Angelou

North Pier is the most northerly of the three coastal piers in Blackpool, England. Built in the 1860s, it is also the oldest and longest of the three. Although originally intended only as a promenade, competition forced the pier to widen its attractions to include theatres and bars. Unlike Blackpool's other piers, which attracted the working classes with open air dancing and amusements, North Pier catered for the "better-class" market, with orchestra concerts and respectable comedians. Until 2011, it was the only Blackpool pier that consistently charged admission. Wikipedia
I have been meaning to do more night photography, although it is quite difficult to shake off the blues and consistently attempt it. There are a lot of factors that need to work in one's favour such as clear skies, appropriate moon phase, an attractive point of interest and of course time. For me, all of this doesn't really come about as often as I would like. Hence, it is quite an accomplishment when this happens...
Broadway Tower is a folly on Broadway Hill, near the large village of Broadway, in the English county of Worcestershire, is the second-highest point of the Cotswolds. Near the tower is a memorial to the crew of an A.W.38 Whitley bomber that crashed there during a training mission in June 1943.
In the late 1950s, Broadway Tower monitored nuclear fallout in England; an underground Royal Observer Corps bunker was built 50 yards from the Tower. Manned continuously from 1961 and designated as a master post, the bunker was one of the last such Cold War bunkers constructed and, although officially stood down in 1991, the bunker is now one of the few remaining fully equipped facilities in England. - Source Wikipedia.
Not a great night for star trails, for multiple reasons - too much of light pollution emanating from the surrounding villages, constant clouds moving in from the horizon and lastly, any other composition would have simply made it difficult to cut out the ambient light. So I thought of making the Broadway Tower like a cannon aiming for the Polaris...
Although the aim was to make about 300 images, this was a result of only about 70 as the cloud cover became persistent for longer periods between clear skies even though BeeBs weather forecast stated as clear skies! Hence the outcome is far from good unfortunately...

This guy has become quite the consistent visitor to my feeder. Last year I had a male visit and did get a shot that I posted, but the opportunity was a rare one. Chorthippus brunneus, also known as the common field grasshopper, is a species of grasshopper of the subfamily Gomphocerinae..C. brunneus are predominantly brown. However, they show a large variation in colour and can also be black, green, purple, or white.striped, striped-mottled, or plain. Both green and purple grasshoppers tend to have plain forewing patterns while black grasshoppers primarily have mottled forewing patterns. Brown grasshoppers do not consistently have the same forewing pattern instead they have variable forewing patterns
Our language has wisely sensed these two sides of man's being alone. It has created the word "loneliness" to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word "solitude" to express the glory of being alone. Although, in daily life, we do not always distinguish these words, we should do so consistently and thus deepen our understanding of our human predicament.

The Golden Gate Bridge - despite its name which refers to the strait it crosses, named "Golden Gate" - has always been painted orange vermilion, deemed "International Orange." Rejecting carbon black and steel gray, Consulting Architect Irving Morrow selected the distinctive orange color because it blends well with the span's natural setting as it is a warm color consistent with the warm colors of the land masses in the setting as distinct from the cool colors of the sky and sea. It also provides enhanced visibility for passing ships.

Niagara Falls Illumination
Hundreds of LED lights are housed in three locations across the Niagara Gorge in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Together, these lights work to create a breathtaking view not to be missed, and are illuminated every night of the year beginning at dusk.
Throughout the year, Niagara Falls is illuminated for holidays and significant occasions, as determined by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board (NFIB). The falls are also lit in custom colors for short durations to mark significant dates in support of charitable causes. A schedule of upcoming special illuminations is shown below.
Inspired by Nature
As of November 14, 2020, the "Inspired by Nature" display will become part of the regular nightly illumination of the Falls, with the five-minute lighting display playing through three times on the half hour, beginning at 7:30 each evening, with additional shows at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30 pm.
The new illumination display will feature color palettes and movements inspired by nature, including the sunrise, aurora borealis, rainbow and sunset. The mighty American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls will come alive every evening with this tribute to the natural beauty all around us.
The New Falls Illumination
In 2016, almost 20 years since the last major investment in falls lighting, the existing Xenon lights were replaced with new, energy-efficient LED lighting technology. These new lights provide more than twice the previous lighting levels, programmable lighting, and a wider spectrum of color. The new lights also fill gaps to provide a more consistent lighting effect.

During our four-day moosing excursion we consistently noted some pre-mating season activity that we hadn't witnessed before. Typically, in mid-August, bulls hang out in bachelor groups and cows are loners. But this year, the bulls and cows were grouped together and exhibiting some mild mating behavior.
We saw one group of three bulls and three cows hanging together, another group of two bulls and two cows and yet another group of four bulls and two cows. The bulls were doing a lot of butt sniffing and the cows were showing modest interest.
All of this was unusual for mid-August. My friend Amy even noticed it a week before when she was in the same area and also noted that it was quite unusual.
West Virginia Central's busiest and most consistent customer is this large transload facility operated by J.F. Allen Company. The facility is tucked into the valley of the Tygart Valley River five miles west of Elkins. A large quarry here supplies stone and gravel that is trucked locally. The transload operation is what provides traffic for the railroad. Inbound is covered hoppers of rock salt used for deicing roads. Also covered hoppers of starch are unloaded here, it is then trucked to a charcoal briquette making plant operated by Kingsford at Parsons, WV. Pictured here is the crew flipping empties for loads at the salt unload with the covered storage shed on the left.

===================
A "corona muralis" or walled crown is a Roman condecoration and latter a heraldic element of a lot of city coats-of-arms. Here they really crowned with walls this apse.
The Romanesque monastery of Sant Miquel de Fluvià is not very well known, but quite interesting. It was founded in 1045, although the church dates from 1066. It was a dependency of St. Miquel de Cuixà abbey, and towards the s. XVII, of St. Peter of Galligans abbey. It continued as a monastery until 1835.
The magnificent Romanesque church and bell tower are the main remains of the abbey, fortified much later, in the XV Century. As part of the fortification, a moat was dug around the church, splitting and destroying the Romanesque cloister. Currently, both the cloister and its destructive moat have been excavated and partially restored. The bell tower shows what appear to be impacts from siege projectiles at the top, so it does seem to have served as a fortification, perhaps during the Catalan Civil War.
BNSF SD70MAC 9989 and two GE's bring westbound W&LE train 301 out of Smithville at Douglas, Ohio, on May 11, 2017. These unit trains from MarkWest at Hopedale, Ohio, to a terminal on BNSF at Hutchinson, KS, ran pretty consistently in the last couple years of the 2010's, but eventually would disappear amid oil and gas market fluctuations. I had heard plans of these trains coming back a couple times in the last few years, but none of the plans have came to fruition yet.
With warmer temperatures becoming more consistent, these birds will be heading north soon for their summer homes.
