Guys I am having the worst issues with my blogs server as it is consistently maxing out the server CPU, so they block my website. I am constantly being put in the virtual corner and it sucks. What is the use of a website if you cant have more than 2k visiting it everyday? It just doesn't make sense. Can you share who your server is and how they deal with your blog load? The next option for me is a significant cost increase to like 80 dollars a month.... and that is insane.

This wasn't a train day, but with the railroad so close and the freights running on a consistent schedule I couldn't pass up the one daylight southbound in perfect light. So after a lovely walk at Smyrna Dunes Park I left my GF on the beach and drove back into town to the Lytle Ave. overpass just north of the Florida East Coast Railroad's modest yard and system locomotive shop. Hotshot Bowden to Hialeah intermodal train 105 is right on time as it crosses Canal Street at MP 124.6 with a slug of mixed freight on the head end behind LNG powered GE ES44ACs 812 and 801 built in Nov. and Oct. 2014 respectively and spliced by their custom LNG fuel tank car.

Originally diesel powered the entire 24 unit GE fleet was retrofitted to run on LNG as detailed in this article: files.chartindustries.com/FEC-LNG-FloridaEastCoastRailway... Originally delivered in the gorgeous heritage 'Champion' paint, the lead unit has just recently been repainted into the garish Grupo Mexico designed livery reflecting the 2017 purchase of the railroad by the Mexican Conglomerate when the freight franchise was spun off by parent Florida East Coast Industries (which continues to own Brightline). As of the present there remain 11 out of 24 units still in Champion paint, though five of those were offline in Mexico working on sister road FXE but are enroute back to home rails.

The installation reflects the festive atmosphere Naveau experienced during her trip to Mexico, where coloured flags liven up the streets. It also refers to the communicative function of flags: as disseminators of a warning, message or ideology. In Bruges, she temporarily fills the niches by the water in a playful way with a masquerade that appeals to the imagination, a warm welcome for every passer-by.

Tilted red tower marks entrance to Polish war museum by Kwadrat, Gdansk

An angled tower wrapped in red concrete panels and glazing contains the entrance to this second world war museum, which is mostly housed beneath the surface of a public plaza in the Polish city of Gdansk. A jury headed by Daniel Libeskind awarded Studio Architektoniczne Kwadrat the project for the Museum of the Second World War following an international competition in 2010. The studio, which is based in the nearby town of Gdynia, said it put forward a proposal that was "a bit risky", but also "something unusual, very distinctive and memorable".

A tower rising 40.5 metres above the new public square provides the dominant feature of the building, which is located next to a canal in a district called Wiadrownia that was destroyed during fighting in 1945. "The idea behind the design is simple enough," said the architects, "to position the main part of the museum underground so as not to completely use up the small plot of land intended for investment. We have concealed the other functions in a sculptural form. In this way, it was possible to find space for a vast square, and the whole premise became symbolic."

The project comprises three distinct but connected parts, with the underground spaces dedicated to the past, the plaza representing the present, and the tower symbolising the future. The monolithic tower features surfaces set at angles as much as 45 degrees from the vertical, lending it a dynamic appearance that alters when viewed from different directions. Three of its four trapezoidal facades are clad in terracotta-red panels, while the fourth side and kinked roof are filled in with glazing that allows natural light to flood into the interior.

"This simple sculptural form, devoid of literal meaning, evokes various associations," said the architects. "It has already been likened to a bastion, a barrier, a crumbling house or a bunker, and when illuminated at night, it resembles a burning candle. At the same time, it fits in with the city image and the geometry of shipyard cranes – the symbol of the port of Gdansk."

The glazed facade of the tower incorporates an entrance at its base, which is situated at basement level and is reached by a wide set of steps leading down from the plaza. The tower contains a library, lecture halls and a restaurant with a viewpoint looking out across the city skyline. The majority of the 23,000 m2 building is located beneath the paved public square, which aims to provide people with a place to meet, socialise and relax. Staircases descend from the entrance through a large void to the level of the ticket office, cloakroom and exhibition spaces dedicated to telling the story of the war in Poland. A corridor with a narrow skylight at its apex guides visitors through a series of austere exhibition rooms featuring a palette of concrete, steel and oak details.

In addition to digital displays and physical exhibits, the spaces include several recreations of places such as a pre-war shopping street, ruined buildings surrounding a Soviet tank, and the interior of a Warsaw apartment reflecting different stages of the conflict. At the level of the plaza, a bridge connects the tower with a long, narrow volume containing offices. A walkway that passes beneath the bridge is lined with gabion cages filled with red brick and rubble from Gdansk. A further wedge-shaped structure that emerges from the square contains the entrance to an underground parking garage. Both this volume and the offices are clad in the same red tiles as the tower to create a consistent aesthetic across the museum's different spaces.

The adult humpback whale is generally 14–15 m (46–49 ft) long, though individuals up to 16–17 m (52–56 ft) long have been recorded. Females are usually 1–1.5 m (3 ft 3 in – 4 ft 11 in) longer than males.

The species can reach body masses of 40 metric tons (44 short tons). Calves are born at around 4.3 m (14 ft) long with a mass of 680 kg (1,500 lb)] The species has a bulky body with a thin rostrum and proportionally long flippers, each around one-third of its body length.[14][15] It has a short dorsal fin that varies from nearly nonexistent to somewhat long and curved.

Like other rorquals, the humpback has grooves between the tip of the lower jaw and the navel. The grooves are relatively few in number in this species, ranging from 14 to 35. The upper jaw is lined with baleen plates, which number 540–800 in total and are black in color.

The dorsal or upper side of the animal is generally black; the ventral or underside has various levels of black and white coloration. Whales in the southern hemisphere tend to have more white pigmentation. The flippers can vary from all-white to white only on the undersurface. Some individuals may be all white, notably Migaloo who is a true albino. The varying color patterns and scars on the tail flukes distinguish individual animals.[

The end of the genital slit of the female is marked by a round feature, known as the hemispherical lobe, which visually distinguishes males and females.[15][19]

Unique among large whales, humpbacks have bumps or tubercles on the head and front edge of the flippers; the tail fluke has a jagged trailing edge. The tubercles on the head are 5–10 cm (2.0–3.9 in) thick at the base and protrude up to 6.5 cm (2.6 in).

They are mostly hollow in the center, often containing at least one fragile hair that erupts 1–3 cm (0.39–1.18 in) from the skin and is 0.1 mm (0.0039 in) thick. The tubercles develop early in gestation and may have a sensory function, as they are rich in nerves. Sensory nerve cells in the skin are adapted to withstand the high water pressure of diving.

In one study, a humpback whale brain measured 22.4 cm (8.8 in) long and 18 cm (7.1 in) wide at the tips of the temporal lobes, and weighed around 4.6 kg (10 lb). The humpback's brain has a complexity similar to that of the brains of smaller whales and dolphins.

The structure of the eye indicates that eyesight is relatively poor, being only able to see silhouettes over long distances and finer details relatively close. Computer models of the middle ear suggest that the humpback can hear at frequencies between 15 Hz and 3 kHz "when stimulated at the tympanic membrane", and between 200 Hz and 9 kHz "if stimulated at the thinner region of the tympanic bone adjacent to the tympanic membrane". These ranges are consistent with their vocalization ranges.

As in all cetaceans, the respiratory tract of the humpback whale is connected to the blowholes and not to the mouth, although the species appears to be able to unlock the epiglottis and larynx and move them towards the oral cavity, allowing humpbacks to blow bubbles from their mouths. The vocal folds of the humpback are more horizontally positioned than those of land mammals which allows them to produce underwater calls. These calls are amplified by a laryngeal sac.

I have a friend at work that consistently teases me about "having goals." When I go to work tomorrow I can tell him.... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.... GOAL ACHIEVED!!!

My goal for my trip back to The Scranton Lace Company (this time with legal access) was to find my way to the epic clock tower. Here's my proof... as directionally challenged as I am ... in a massive maze... two buildings, 288,000 square feet, covering 7.5 acres, I was able to find my way to the door and stairs and ladders leading into the clock tower, a city landmark in Scranton, PA. Surprisingly enough, I had a pretty good idea where it was from my last visit and once I found the auditorium, I pretty much knew where to go. I can't say that it wasn't scary, but it felt safe enough. I stopped there though. I didn't go into the bell tower above the clock tower. The clock tower has clock faces on all four sides, with one of them missing a quarter of the inner circle of the face, so that you can look out over the surrounding area, offering the reward of an awesome photo op! So, here it is.... my proof... Mission Accomplished.... Goal Achieved.... cross this one off the bucket list.

Scranton Lace, established in 1897 was once a world leader in the production of Nottingham Lace. Also, once a leading employer in the area, It has been abandoned since 2002, when the VP one day told the workers that they were closing their doors forever... "effective immediately." Currently there is a $51 million project to turn the building into apartments, offices, stores, restaurants, and a space dedicated to local artists to create and sell their work. Work is supposed to begin in 2017. Maybe there will be time for one more visit.... (and a climb to the bell tower?)

I have observed that Dolores Park is segmented into several distinct and (sub) culturally consistent sections.

A. Hipster Valley

The Northeast corner of the Park (Dolores and 17th) is the realm of the Hipster. I suspect this is because while they can manage the walk from Valencia to Dolores they are too hung-over to make it up the hill.

Do bring: Bike, Enormous Sunglasses, Skinny jeans that show your butt crack when you sit down, Wear black and more black something army-looking works too, Ipods, beer and small speakers are encouraged.

Tips: Sit directly on grass + look bored.

Suggested canine companion: Chihuahuas, mixed breed rescues, and friendly beer drinking pit bulls in bandanas

B. Jocks, Bros and Hos

Weekend warriors, dodge ball players, soccer fans, etc…

Do bring: Spandex, knee pads and some sort of ball to chase around.

My last hike of the season was along Rock Creek. I've posted plenty of photos from it, including one of this formation. One was taken with a Holga, while this one was taking with the 4x5.

If you're familiar with the Steerman Press developing tank, you'll notice the tab marks on the top and (especially) bottom of the frame. Sometimes they're very prominent. Sometimes they're very not. I haven't figured out why they're not consistent.

I assume it's got to do with the emulsion swelling, but maybe not. I don't think it's agitation since I'm pretty consistent with that. I'd like to somehow not have that happen.

The last Arctic trip was probably the best in terms of consistent evenings filled with aurora and clear skies I have had in many trips over the last few years. This solar storm was the result of a large solar flare on the sun, a flare that actually exploded as we made our way to the airport in the early hours of the morning on the 23rd January.

I was immediately getting excited and planning a location to ensure we got to clear skies to witness this event. We headed straight for the Lofoten Islands only to find the weather was looking too unpredictable so grabbed a few hours sleep before heading straight into Sweden to an incredible frozen forest. Some of the auroral formations and patterns were fantastic here, I spent ages trying to find relationships between the needles and needle type tree tops but this was the best burst I saw all evening for shape and structure.

It was stupendously cold here, the temperature hit -35C but it was worth it for the incredible display, crystal clear skies and the images we managed during the few daylight hours the next day.

Cant wait to do this all again in just two weeks time!

I see that some things haven't changed despite my long absence. My flowers are still a good solid month later than the rest of the town. All of my life I've seen Daffodils blooming in mid to late February, here is March and I'm just starting to see some buds at my house. Same goes for Crocus, those usually bloom early February. Today I say my first bloom.

Just as we got back to camp from lakeside shooting the sunset, it rained again.

And all through the night again.

It got down into the 30s F (high 3s C) at night for a couple nights with highs in the 60s F (high teens C) during the day.

As the week progressed, the rains departed and the days got a little warmer.

Landscapes you can't take too much credit for. Landscapes are like a metaphor for life. You must consistently show up and put yourself in position for success. The sky and light changes daily and without daily persistence you will miss the opportunity given to you. The one thing you can admire about a person's landscape is the time and dedication that person took to be in the right place at the right time. A consistent grind to be in the moment that the heavens gift you for not being lazy.

Quality control and manufacturing before and after the war of this lens seems to have been very consistent despite the MOG factory being destroyed by the bombing of Dresden in WW2.

A consistent expectation for power upgrades (in the eyes of us railfans) to the annual Canadian CP spray train during its time west of Winnipeg was reinforced no less back in 2023, as the latest cowl to get a dunk in the second available golden beaver paint re-powered the train for its branchline runs. Starting from Vancouver to all-over the prairies via southern interior BC, it conducted spraying of the US-connecting Weyburn Sub in early July. Here it is passing Mile 40, whose post is almost perfectly centred relative to the Richardson International grain facility directly south of the main.

As CPKC painted power start to roll out of the ongoing Mayfield overhaul projects (at the time of writing, 3 Gevos and 1 GP38 have been subject to the latest repaint specs), CP 9014 seems more and more likely to be the last of 5 40Fs to recieve the 2-letter branding. Getting them checked off while the paint is still fresh will never fail to satisfy my capturing of the rare breed of GMD motive power.

One of the world's oldest lake at over 4 million years old, an ancient lake is one that has consistently contained water for more than 1 million years.

The camera industry is dominated by 3 big names from just 1 country, they are worse than oligopolies since they also behave like a cabal. The lack of real, serious competition is a huge detriment to consumers, contrast this with the highly competitive smartphone market.

We now have cameras using the exact same sensor for 3 or more generations; Nikon D850 to Z7, then Z7ii and even the latest Z9 appears to be the same with just an additional stacked layer; Olympus E-M1 Mkii to EM-1X to E-M5iii to E-M1 Mkii. Olympus however imploded shortly after and is now OM Solutions.

The recent OM Solutions (previously Olympus) OM-1 came with a new stacked sensor touting 2 stops improvement in Dynamic Range plus 1 stop better in noise turned out to be nothing more than skin deep software tweaks giving better Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) JPEGs only while the RAW file quality remained no better than the 2 generations older OMD E-M1 MKii. OM-1’s superiority over previous iterations is largely in subject tracking AF.

The Korean brand Samyang however managed to release their AF 135mm f1.8 FE just recently which more than matched the optical performance of the hallowed Sony FE 135mm f1.8 GM at less than 1/2 the price and 178g lighter! This is a good sign, hopefully more will come. The marketeers and shills meanwhile will be using their bullhorn to tell everyone why we need to spend much more instead.

Can’t help but agree with those who have been saying that a shakeup in the industry is long overdue especially if they continue with this trend of unfettered price escalation without any meaningful improvement in RAW quality, especially on the back of a declining market coupled with the highly competitive and progressive smartphone market involving major players from different countries.

In the world of HiFi and in particular the market for In-Ear-Monitors (IEM or earbuds), the entrance of so many quality manufacturers from China over the past few years brought down the prices such that very good quality IEMs can now be had for $100 when in the past one needs to pay many multiples more for the same level of performance.

There’ll still be some who will tell us we need that $1,000 special cable to be able to get the very best out of our IEM, no different from camera shills who like to tell us we need the latest lenses to get the best out of our high resolution cameras because the sensors out-resolved our existing lenses.

Just like the camera industry moving towards mirrorless, the IEM market has been transitioning to wireless bluetooth earbuds. The fundamental difference in the HiFi space is that serious audiophiles are not giving up their high end wired IEMs anytime soon. Contrast this with the innumerable incessant camera marketeers/shills that have infested the gear forums, DSLRs and especially DSLR lenses are now being declared as inferior, how else can camera companies sell us new stuff unless they move us all to a different (though not always superior) mount!?

Different season, but here we are back on the Ottawa River, lying on our stomachs, staring at wildlife.

Freeze-up has been stop and start here, with consistently cold weather still not happening. Although the Ottawa River has many rapids that don’t freeze over, large sections of the River do, starting with the many small bays along its course. This Muskrat is using the mix of ice and open water to its advantage: it dives down to gather plants and mussels from the bottom, and then it resurfaces on sections of ice to eat them - rather than having to expose itself to land-based predators by returning to the shore.

The wind was blowing pretty hard from the east - weather was about to change again - and I was able to crawl through reeds downwind off the Muskrat. It couldn’t smell me or hear me with the wind blowing off the water, so I was able to get pretty close. A large piece of River detritus - a beached tree trunk - gave me cover at the water’s edge.

The real challenges were the light and the fact that the piece of ice the Muskrat was working from rose and fell with the increasingly active River water. One of the solutions was patience. I was lying on my stomach on the edge of the shore, the Muskrat was busy diving and eating, and the sky and the water would contribute as best they could. Hang in there. I got a lot of images, hoping that I would, in the comfort of my home, find something where the light in particular gave a good look at this hardy creature.

The dark oof horizon is a lovely area in Gatineau, Quebec, that is home to all kinds of birds and animals. The Ottawa River around here serves as the border between the provinces of Quebec and Ontario, and I cross the River (along with thousands of other Ottawa residents) to get to my office in Gatineau.

I had always lived in cities on the edge of large lakes. Discovering the many areas and inhabitants of the Ottawa River over the past twenty years has been amazing.

Seriously Consistent -Serious Fun! (Posted for the group Smile on Saturday)!

The pre-dawn air crackled with anticipation, thick with the scent of salt and the promise of a new day returning to a familiar friend. I crunched across the cool, damp sand of Mt Maunganui's Main Beach, the rhythmic boom of the ocean waves a constant counterpoint to the hushed chirps of unseen birds. This golden expanse, consistently ranked among the world's best by TripAdvisor travelers (yours truly included!), stretched out before me like a wrinkled invitation I'd happily accepted for years, and hoped to for many more. A beach bum's heart can't resist a sunrise like that.

The sky was still an inky canvas, studded with a million tiny diamonds. Despite the calm of the hour, the waves crashed ashore with surprising ferocity, the sound booming in the pre-dawn stillness. Each one retreated, leaving behind a whisper of frothy lace and a faint kiss of salt on my lips, a familiar taste that brought back countless sunrises spent here.

Reaching my usual spot, a vantage point carved by countless sunrises spent here, I set up my camera in front of the massive stones that served as a natural barrier between the sand and the ocean's untamed energy. Anticipation crackled in the air, a buzz that rivaled the low hum of the city just beginning to stir in the distance. A pale blush crept across the horizon, pushing back the darkness like a shy smile. The inky black morphed into a deep indigo, then a vibrant purple, the colors bleeding into each other with breathtaking speed.

The first sliver of sun peeked over the horizon, a fiery disc that sent long fingers of gold dancing across the water, a world-renowned playground for surfers of all levels. The waves, previously a uniform white, now shimmered with a thousand hues of orange, pink, and red. A lone surfer, a silhouette against the fiery backdrop, carved his way across the liquid canvas, leaving a trail of white foam in his wake.

Taking a deep breath of the crisp, salty air, I clicked the shutter, capturing a moment of pure magic. The world, bathed in the golden light of dawn, felt pristine, untouched. Here, on this beach, with the roar of the ocean waves as my soundtrack, I knew I had witnessed something truly special. Ranked or not, in that moment, on this beach of golden renown, it was pure perfection. A perfection I hoped to experience for many sunrises to come.

I can say that Ruby built the majority of this, sized, cut and nailed. Now applying a Copper base preservative so once in-ground, the termites do not eat my handy work.

Obnoxious,...but consistent.

I usually prefer to take photos in daylight but I like the way the centre of these flowers show up in artificial light.

People say they don’t view their images at 100% but when you make big prints of your processing flaws will show immediately. LBN 438 is a galactic dark nebula located in the constellation Lacerta. It is illuminated by interstellar radiation which is known as Extended Red Emission (ERE).

Since changing over to my Tak 85 I've been struggling to get my focus to be consistent so after making sure all settings in my capture program were correct and checking my lakeside focuser many times, I finally found out that it was my focuser rail that was loose! finally consistent focusing : )

monestir romanic de Sant Miquel de Fluvià no és molt conegut, però força interessant. Fou fundat el 1045, tot i que la església data del 1066. Era una dependencia de St. Miquel de Cuixà, i cap al s. XVII, a St. Pere de Galligans. Continuà com a monestir fins el 1835.

S'en conserva la magnifica església i campanar romanics, fortificats molt després, al s. XV. Com a part de la fortificació, s'excavà un fossat entorn l'església, esbentrant el claustre romanic pel bell mig. Actualment s'ha excavat i restaurat parcialment tant el claustre com el seu fossat destructor. El campanar mostra el que semblen impactes de projectils de setge a la part superior, pel que sí que sembla que serví com a fortificació, potser durant la guerra civil catalana.

A "corona muralis" or walled crown is a Roman condecoration and latter a heraldic element of a lot of city coats-of-arms. Here they really crowned with walls this apse.

The Romanesque monastery of Sant Miquel de Fluvià is not very well known, but quite interesting. It was founded in 1045, although the church dates from 1066. It was a dependency of St. Miquel de Cuixà abbey, and towards the s. XVII, of St. Peter of Galligans abbey. It continued as a monastery until 1835.

The magnificent Romanesque church and bell tower are the main remains of the abbey, fortified much later, in the XV Century. As part of the fortification, a moat was dug around the church, splitting and destroying the Romanesque cloister. Currently, both the cloister and its destructive moat have been excavated and partially restored. The bell tower shows what appear to be impacts from siege projectiles at the top, so it does seem to have served as a fortification, perhaps during the Catalan Civil War.

52 Week Project - Week 16

"Being brave is nothing more than standing up when you're afraid."

I've decided to start focusing less on the things that I can't change and more on the ones I'm afraid to. I thought all last week about what I wanted to shoot for my week 16, but for the life of me, I could not decide on one idea. I hated the idea of doing another self-portrait, I didn't want the world to have to see my face again this week. But I realized it wasn't about that, I just really didn't like myself or where I was going in life. Once I realized the self-destructive nature of these thoughts, I set a due date for this image, hopped in the car without a solid idea or location, and just went.

I enjoy the nature of this project because it allows me to play on fleeting ideas and emotions, spending as much or as little time necessary to create something I'm proud to show off. Not a whole lot of these weeks are consistent with the last, but that's okay. The fact that most of these are unplanned makes me look forward to take a step back at the end of this project to see how it all came together, what worked, what didn't, and everything in-between.

Grilled cheese:

Slice focaccia bread, spread with butter, and layer provolone. Grill for 3-4 minutes a side

For the soup:

2 (28 oz) cans diced tomatoes, undrained

1 red onion, diced

2 (14 oz) cans chicken broth

1 Tbsp dried oregano

1 Tbsp dried basil

1 tsp salt

6 oz. evaporated milk

Small handful fresh basil leaves, sliced thin

Add tomatoes, onion, broth and dried spices and salt to crock pot. Cover and cook on low 6-8 hours.

Carefully use a ladle, scoop tomatoes and onions out of the pot (draining excess liquid back into the pot as you're doing this....the idea is to get most of the chunks out) and into a blender. Blender on high speed until smooth. Return blended tomato mixture to crock pot.

Slowly stir in evaporated milk until soup is a consistent color (add more or less milk based on your preferences).

Stir in basil leaves.

Turn crock pot down to "warm" until ready to serve.

Soup serves 10.

So, just eat more soup than grilled cheese and you'll be ok! :)

I think I have found a way to repeat this shape (not consistently) by setting larger first drop (S1=80), relatively short first delay(D1=50), smaller second drop (S2=20), very short second delay (D2=5), medium third drop (S3=30). With this settings, I can get this shape much easier.

(For those who does not understand what it is above, those are parameters used for my Water Drop Kit, currently on KickStarter)

The reasoning is the larger first drop will create high jet with relatively more momentum, and because of relatively short first delay, when the smaller second drop collides with the jet, it creastes a smaller splash but the jet is still going up because the second drop is small. Then when the third drop collides with the splash, liquid flows along the first splash forming a long tube. Of course, this is my guess, need to see this under my high speed camera once I build my high power light source for it.

CPKC 148 gets a route through Grey Cloud Dunes SNA on the BNSF St. Paul Subdivision after Amtrak's Borealis exited the Twin Cities. I like that there is traffic ready to go after the Borealis consistently, so that I can get a bonus train somewhere whether it's the BNSF or CPKC. It had been a while since I had visited Grey Cloud Dunes. There is a large residential development encroaching on my peace and serenity here, so I have been hesitant on revisiting since the earthmoving and construction started. CPKC 148 was a good motivator to hustle down the hill to this spot and catch it passing the 4167 intermediate signal.

La mariposa Niña Celeste integra el linaje Lycaenidae, dentro de la categoría de los lepidópteros. Pertenece al conjunto Lysandra, en la clasificación Icarus. Este insecto habita con predominancia en la Península Ibérica, tanto en la planicie como en los picos de 2000 metros de altura.

A simple vista, este animal se reconoce por su color celeste, claro e invariable. En una mirada más atenta, puede diferenciarse el bello fleco de sus alas, bordeadas por fimbrias donde se intercalan el blanco y el negro en un juego sutil. En cuanto a su tamaño, este varía entre los 3 y los 5 cm. La especie presenta diferentes rasgos formales entre los sexos.

Se reconoce al macho al observar el interior azul metalizado de las alas, adornado de una hilera discreta de manchas negras. Por su parte, la hembra tiene tonos acaramelados en el anverso, con sombras naranjas y un vértice axilar celeste, compartiendo los puntos oscuros con el macho. En ambos también, la capilaridad del cuerpo es blanca y afelpada, y los ojos son negros.

Para la colocación de sus huevos, la Lysandra escoge, en la medida de lo posible, aquellas leguminosas de tallos resistentes, como la “herradura”, una especie vegetal que además de tener la consistencia apropiada para sujetar al futuro capullo, es perenne.

Gracias a su ciclo reproductivo bianual, es posible presenciar las diferencias generacionales de la mariposa Niña Celeste. En su primer ciclo, este insecto posee una fuerte pigmentación azul; en tanto que en el segundo el color se va desprendido gradualmente hasta que sus alas alcanzan la transparencia cristalina.

En el período de seis meses que vivencia como oruga, se alimenta mediante la succión de la savia de las herbáceas, preferentemente de los tréboles. La metamorfosis definitiva tiene lugar en mayo y en agosto. La segunda camada siempre es un poco más pequeña que la primera en cuanto al tamaño de cada individuo.

El estudio minucioso de las costumbres de la oruga comprobó que la misma entabla relaciones amistosas con cierta especie de hormiga. Entre ambos insectos se crea una singular sociedad, en la que acuerdan protegerse mutuamente.

Su hábitat ideal es el que le brindan las praderas y bosques húmedos, aunque se adapta con relativa facilidad a las regiones de escasez de prados y pobreza de suelos. Este último registro respecto a su facultad de cambiar de hábitat se realizó al comprobar que luego de la destrucción de los encinares béticos, la mariposa Niña Celeste encontró nuevos horizontes donde hacer su hogar.

En la Península Ibérica existen veintiuna especies integradas en el género polyommatus.

La polyommatus bellargus se adscribe al subgénero meleageria, que lo comparte con las siguientes especies:

- Polyommatus coridon

- Polyommatus daphnis

- Polyommatus hispana

Al igual que ocurre con la mayor parte de los licénidos, las polyommatus son lepidópteros de pequeñas dimensiones (unos 30 milímetros de envergadura el macho y algo mayor la hembra) y muchas semejanzas taxonómicas. De hecho, resulta bastante difícil diferenciar algunas especies a simple vista.

La trebbiatura è l'attività conclusiva del raccolto consistente nella separazione della granella del frumento e degli altri cereali dalla paglia e dalla pula.

Le fasi della trebbiatura possono essere riassunte in:

1. Battitura della fascina di grano;

2. Separazione della paglia dalla granella tramite la ventilazione e scuotitura della paglia;

3. Concia del grano:

4. Raccolta del grano nel contenitore in legno posizionato nella parte anteriore bassa.

La trebbiatura era nel passato, per i contadini, un evento molto importante e faticoso. Il lavoro, iniziato a ottobre, novembre con l'aratura e la semina, si presentava particolarmente difficile al momento della mietitura, quando con una piccola falce bisognava tagliare il grano ormai maturo, con l'incombente pericolo di rimetterci il mignolo, vuoi per la fatica, vuoi per i raggi roventi che dardeggiavano sui mietitori.

Dopo aver legato i covoni occorreva depositarli nell'are dove venivano accatastati da mani esperte. Poi giungeva il momento della trebbiatura che non era meno difficoltosa delle precedenti operazioni. Per i bambini però l'arrivo della trebbia rappresentava un piacevole diversivo.Non c'era bisogno di essere avvisati, primo perchè d'estate, tolti quei dieci minuti per il pranzo, tutti stavano fuori a giocare, secondo: i trattori a testa calda che trainavano le trebbie erano talmente assordanti, che se ne percepiva l'arrivo già da lontano.

Dopo aver espletato i preliminari, ognuno prendeva il suo posto: "il pagliarino" con paglietta ed occhiali da aviatore anteguerra, coadiuvato da due donzelle, si piazzava in cima alla macchina ed infilava i covoni sciolti fra gli ingranaggi. Poi c'erano gli addetti ai sacchi, tenuti costantemente d'occhio dal trattorista che portava il conto dei quintali prodotti.

Intanto i sacchi riempiti venivano caricati sul carro dei buoi per essere condotti a destinazione. Nel frattempo altri si incaricavano di innalzare le mucchi di paglia.

A quel punto i bambini davano sfogo all'impazienza, scorrazzando tra la paglia, si buttavano sulle morbide montagne di pula, giocavano a nascondino finchè non giungevano le ombre della sera.

I was after Micah and I his loved his layout of two outer wings, and including the ribbed hose so I carried those over into mine.

I wanted to create an elegant spacecraft that one would enjoy sailing through the stars. You can see my boat shaped influences as well as hidden bow and arrow shapes in the wing sails :)

CIMA SAPPADA. IL FIUME PIAVE.

Conosciuto anche come “fiume Sacro alla Patria” per le vicende storiche che lo hanno caratterizzato, il Piave è uno dei patrimoni naturalistici più rilevanti del Veneto e della provincia di Belluno, dove nasce.

La sua sorgente è situata ai piedi del Monte Peralba, a 2037 m di altitudine. Dalle Alpi Carniche, dunque, la Piave continua il suo corso fino al Montello attraversando le Dolomiti e le Prealpi per sfociare infine nel mar Adriatico a nord-est della laguna di Venezia.

La sorgente del Piave è facilmente raggiungibile anche in auto seguendo la strada asfaltata che da Cima Sappada si inoltra in Val Sesis fino al vicino Rifugio Sorgenti del Piave, punto di partenza anche dell’Alta Via delle Dolomiti n.6, che termina a Vittorio Veneto.

Una costruzione in pietra indica esattamente dove nasce il fiume, tra la natura incontaminata della Val Sesis, per iniziare il suo viaggio verso l'Adriatico. Numerosi gli affluenti che lungo il corso alimentano la portata già consistente dell'emissario.

Piccola nota da parte mia: se il fiume Piave nasce sotto il monte Peralba (che segna il confine tra Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia ed Austria) e che Sappada e Cima Sappada sono,da qualche anno in provincia di Udine, posso affermare che il fiume Piave nasce in Friuli Venezia Giulia e che solo dopo qualche chilometro entra nella regione Veneto ????

Guys I am having the worst issues with my blogs server as it is consistently maxing out the server CPU, so they block my website. I am constantly being put in the virtual corner and it sucks. What is the use of a website if you cant have more than 2k visiting it everyday? It just doesn't make sense. Can you share who your server is and how they deal with your blog load? The next option for me is a significant cost increase to like 80 dollars a month.... and that is insane.

The spelling of the name of this taxon has invariably been Gmelina philippensis. However, in A revision of the genus Gmelina (Lamiaceae), Kew Bulletin Vol. 67: 293 - 329; 2012; Rogier de Kok, it is consistently spelled Gmelina philippinensis. Gamelina é o nome desta trepadeira no Brasil. Originária da Índia, tem o nome científico ligado às Filipinas onde parece ter algo de sua origem, não se sabe com exatitude pois ora se referem a ela como filipense ora como filipinense. Mas o nome original é filipense. Em outros países recebe o nome de bico-de-papagaio pelo formato engraçado das flores que lembram o bico desta ave. Pode chegar a 7m de altura, se enreda ou cresce como arbusto. É tida como excelente planta medicinal para tratar a tosse e também como estimulante para acalmar os nervos e também as juntas.
