The Tso moriri, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, India~ June 2005

(Tso means a 'lake' in the ladakhi language)

Tsomoriri or Lake Moriri (official name: Tsomoriri Wetland Conservation Reserve), in the Changthang (literal meaning, northern plains) area, is a High Altitude Lake (HAL) with an altitude of 4,595 m (15,080 ft) in Ladakh, India and is the largest of the High Altitude Lakes in the Trans-himalayan biogeographic region, entirely within India. It is hemmed between Ladakh in the North and Tibet in the east and Zanskar in the west; the Changthang plateau is the geographical setting with snow peaks that provides the source of water for the Lake.

Accessibility to the lake is limited to summer season only.Tsokar means salty lake in local language and salt was extracted from this lake in earlier times, till the end of 1959, for consumption by the local people.

Also, in the picture you can see a pair of the highest flying birds, 'the bar-headed geese'... this is the only place in India where they breed in natural habitat.

The Bar-headed Goose migrates over the Himalayas to spend the winter in India, Assam, Northern Burma and the wetlands of Pakistan. It migrates up to Magadi wetlands of Gadag district of Karnataka in the southern part of India. The winter habitat of the Bar-headed Goose is on cultivation where it feeds on barley, rice and wheat, and may damage crops. The bird can fly the 1000-mile migration route in just one day as it is able to fly in jet

Nowadays in Sweden, an old growth forest is rare. The protected forest of Mariebergsskogen has trees over 100 years old and is rich in biodiversity. I’ve spent over two hours waiting in the cold rain at Mariebergsskogen before my decisive moment with two minutes of sunshine.

Benioff, Dell (below) and Walton were the sponsors of a wonderful dinner for CI and the Hawai'i Fish Trust.

Having just returned from a swim with the dolphins, I have but a peek into Benioff’s Zen mind:

“While swimming with dolphins in the Pacific Ocean, the fundamental epiphany for Salesforce.com surfaced. I asked myself 'Why aren't all enterprise software applications built like Amazon and eBay?'" (BI)

and more recently (SJMN):

"Nothing will help you let go faster than swimming alongside a pod of dolphins. It's an amazing experience. It connects you back to what's really important."

“I have gotten some of my best insights when I have been able to surrender myself to nature like that. I attribute Salesforce's great performance to my ability to work in Hawaii."

"I try to adopt a Zen perspective of a beginner's mind. And I think the best way to get a beginner's mind is to get to an environment like this where you can kind of let go.”

The current church was built on the site of a previous 12th-century church in 1846. It is grade II* listed. It is no longer used for regular worship, and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

To protect the tusk, and to keep the many tiny fragments of ancient ivory from falling off, we used Acrysol to help hold things together. Acrysol is water soluble - we can remove it when we get the tusk into our lab.

Honestly it's a small area, but still, thoughtful.
