Although this is marked 'Foreign' I suspect it is made in Germany, and I have seen a suggestion that it is by Technofix, an export version of their no. 239 – any further information very welcome. 'Provisional Patent 8502/36'. The width of the roadway is similar to the Tippco Reichsautobahn and the Marx systems.
While attending the general meeting of (Un)Occupy:Burque one night a few weeks ago I was called over by Pahe ,he quietly asked why I was carrying my camera.I explained that I had for no reason in particular and that I usually carried it with me.
After looking me up and down he started talking with me.Explaining that while he slept on the streets every night he was not homeless as long as he had the mountains around he had a home.We talked for a bit longer until he shyly asked me if I could take a picture of him.I did,he decided he wanted to pose certain ways,so I shot a couple more.When I had the shots he liked he excitedly asked me to wait a bit,as he wanted to show me what he could do.
He proceeded to draw my name into a landscape scene.I took this shot as he was doing that.
We talked for another 30mns or so and as I got up to leave he asked if I could give him a copy of the photos and also handed me his moms address in AZ.We agreed to meet back the following Friday.
I did not see him there when I went.
As I walked from there that night,I realized that whoever we are,whatever our situation...we,as humans want to connect,to be seen and heard by others.Connecting with another human being for even a short time is a gift to ourselves and others

The Utah State Office of Education Title VII Program in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Red Butte Garden, the Urban Indian Center and the Utah Natural History Museum hosted the second annual of the Earth Connections Camp, American Indian Nature Camp on June 18.
The camp’s goal is to reconnect urban American Indian youth with their natural world and cultural heritage, organizers said.
The 30 campers, divided into two groups, spent the day at Red Butte Garden learning about American Indian traditions, history, arts and craft, storytelling and nutrition.
American Indian educators and specialists from the various partners led each of the learning stations.
Juan Palma, BLM Utah state director, was the keynote speaker. He shared his story of growing up in a family of migrant workers and the difference education made in his life.
Other activities during the day-long camp included building solar toys and constructing dams with the assistance of Bureau of Reclamation staff.
“I was so impressed with the instructors, volunteers, and especially the campers,” said Jeanette Shackelford, BLM Utah State Youth Program Lead. “The kids were respectful and attentive, and I personally learned a lot from listening to the different sessions.”
Organizers hope to continue to collaborate and expand the day-camp to have more students attend.

The 11th annual Sophomore Career Connections: Linking the Liberal Arts to the World of Work, hosted collaboratively by the Center for Career Education and the Office of Advancement, featured Minerva Tantoco ’86 as the keynote speaker. Tantoco, a pioneer in AI and digital mobile technology and the CEO of City Strategies LLC, delivered her talk, Humanist Ex Machina: Liberal Arts in the Age of Technology, in Skinner Hall’s Mary Anna Fox Martel Recital Hall at Vassar College, January 17, 2025.

On Thursday, November 9th students from Pacifica High School’s CTE Entrepreneurship course, pitched their business plan: “OC Barber-To-Go” to a small panel of business leaders, Opus Bank and Shear Craft Hair Studio, who volunteered their time to provide students with critical feedback on their business proposal. The goal of the mock panel was to help students prepare for the Virtual Enterprises Business Plan competition on December 4th. The small panel is part of our Youth Career Connections Initiative where the United Way connected corporate volunteers with young entrepreneurs who shared their business plan, company’s website and discussed financials for sustainability and expansion in Orange County.
