Joyful train "Oykotto"

at Tokamachi station, Niigata, Japan

Did you know the conductor, not the engineer, is in charge of the train? The engineer is responsible for operating the locomotive and handling the train safely and efficiently; however, the conductor is the ranking crewmember, responsible for the entire train and providing transportation services, passenger or freight. Your conductor is a well-trained, professional railroader...much, much more than just a ticket puncher.

The conductor on the tram from Amsterdam

Last week's unexpected trip to Quebec City to chase Quebec Gatineau's holiday train reminded me of two things, one ; I don't go often enough to the National Capital region. And two ; that I never published these pictures from last February's spreader extra on the "Petit La Tuque" Subdivision.

Conductor Lionel. N Is posing next to his consist at Donnaconna, where the train turned around to head back to Joffre. Lionel is a good "Rail", I remember training him as a conductor in 2016 as he had just transferred from Edmonton to Joffre. Little did we know that he would join the ranks with me at VIA a couple of months after this picture was taken. Congrats bud!

CN conductor X.M took a few minutes to poses for my Nikon lens at the end of a shift on a X532 -sunday only- job in Brockville's Manitoba Yard.

I've always enjoyed working with X.M as this guy can literally spoke of everything making any trips with him passing quite fast.

Now, he's no more on the conductor spareboard but enjoying his good seniority working the West End Pool jobs Montreal to Belleville runs; 211 miles of pure money.

A conductor trainee (he's wearing an orange vest) on CSX rides the front of a locomotive making a switch move in Cayce, South Carolina. The conductor, who is out of sight in this photograph, was very methodical with this young man. He let him throw the switches in the yard and made sure he know to look at the rails and make sure the tracks were lined up the right way before he allowed the train to pass over them.

The conductor of BNSF WQMNSL rolls through the siding at Old Monroe as he was out to mock me, pretending he was taking pictures of me through his flip phone as I was taking photos of him.

He is quite possibly the slickest, most handsome conductor, ever. Thank you, Sir, for coolest pose.

I always dreamed of being a train conductor when I was a kid :) I was also very fond of dressing up and imagining places of my own… anyhow, I finally got a chance to photograph a kid for a series I’d like to begin of kids imagining what they’ll be when they grow up! I think this first photo was meant to be, because awesome little Eric here was SUPER into trains! So, I brought out my old train set from when I was a kid and we went to town getting some great shots! To see some awesome shots from our PAINT shoot we did afterwards, check out my Facebook Page!

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. I just loved that the conductor's baton was pointing at the guys head and that someone had sprayed silly string, it looked like the conductor was casting a spell. Enjoy!
