Dachau Concentration Camp is located 16km north of Munich. It was the first camp to be opened (1933) and it originally was to incarcerate political opponents to the Nazi regime. Dachau served as the prototype and model for all of the other concentration camps. Only one-third of all of the people who were incarcerated in this camp were Jews.
The memorial site opened to the public in 1965. It is quite a sobering experience to walk through the site and the museum retracing the history of the camp.
This is one of the multiple watchtowers surrounding the camp from which the guards would fire on anyone they thought was trying to escape. The number is to indicate the location of one of the barracks.

Since this concentration marks my half way point i have decided to switch color schemes to get more variety. This picture was also taken in the winter which reminded me of a more cooler scheme. Also, the way she is positioned she seems like she is cold so it works with the picture. The next couple will most likely be a more cooler picture considering the setting of the particular photo.

The Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp was built in the summer of 1936 by concentration camp prisoners from the Emsland camps. It was the first new camp to be established after Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler was appointed Chief of the German Police in 1936. The design of the grounds was conceived by the SS architects as the ideal concentration camp setting, giving architectural expression to the SS worldview, and symbolically subjugating the prisoners to the absolute power of the SS. As a model for other camps, and in view of its location just outside the Reich capital, Sachsenhausen acquired a special role in the National Socialist concentration camp system. This was reinforced in 1938 when the Concentration Camp Inspection Office, the administrative headquarters for all concentration camps within the German sphere of influence, was transferred from Berlin to Oranienburg.
More than 200,000 people were imprisoned in the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp between 1936 and 1945. At first the prisoners were mostly political opponents of the Nazi regime. However, increasing numbers of members of groups defined by the National Socialists as racially or biologically inferior were later included. By 1939 large numbers of citizens from the occupied European states arrived. Tens of thousands of people died of starvation, disease, forced labor and mistreatment, or were victims of the systematic extermination operations of the SS. Thousands of other prisoners died during the death marches following the evacuation of the camp at the end of April 1945. Approximately 3,000 sick prisoners, along with the doctors and nurses who had stayed behind in the camp, were liberated by Soviet an Polish soldiers.

14x10 digital photograph. In this piece I showed the model looking out of the lit up window to show them seeing the light but not being able to obtain it while sitting in the dark room. I wanted to show a longing for the light.

Parlare di concentrazione con lui è tutto un programma....sempre a fare i festini la sera, la sua pazzia non ha limiti...ma quando c'è da fare sul serio.....lui c'è!
Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is in the Upper Geyser Basin at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA).
Shell Spring is a frequently erupting geyser in the Sapphire Group of Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin. It is located about 30 meters west of Jewel Geyser. Bulbous lobes of geyserite surround Shell Spring’s vent, with pustulose to nodulose geyserite along the periphery. Eruptions involve low to moderately low splashing. When water levels are low, a small side vent on the southwestern side of the main vent engages in chugging/rhythmic sputtering. The name “Shell Spring” is in reference to its resemblance to the folds and sulci of the interior surface of an articulated tridacnid bivalve shell (e.g., Tridacna gigas).

I try to include two types of photos in my travel images : those that represent the location for tourists, and others that tell about the people who live there. This one is an example of the latter. A lunchtime game of chess in a park - I wanted to capture the expressions of concentration in the players and observers.

Artist Statement:
1. My concentration idea is that there is beauty in death, there is a unique way to view the things that no longer are living.
2. My work from this week is showing the beautiful text found in bones, (cow skull). And all the details you miss and this picture shows interesting texture in it.
3. The principle of design that I used was unity and balance.

Colleen and Amanda!
I'm not sure if i like the designs anymore in my concentration, and i still cannot find a meaning behind them. For this one specifically i think i like this one without the geometric shapes for some reason. I think its not as busy and visually looks better. I can always go back into each drawing and take out the shapes if i would like. I will keep creating until i reach a desc-ion.
