Humans are predators and our primordial instinct is to lock in on our subject. Food, friend, or foe, with pinpoint accuracy. Draw your attention to the airplane above. Tracking it smoothly across the sky is one of the most complicated neurological functions our brain does.

Zebras have found a way to disrupt that with their stripes. After all its a matter of milliseconds of life and death in their world.

Centering is one of the established compositional styles I favor when setting up a shot. It immediately draws the viewer's attention.

I ask you to look at my previous photo and see how I set it up. Now it is quite obvious. With a digital camera it's is easy, but that shot was with an analog camera with an offset viewfinder. Nonetheless it worked.

Spoiler alert: but as photographers our main concern is not with the center of the image, but our attention is how the scene relates to the four corners and frame.

This is not the Norman mentioned in the previous photo description but another very cute draft cross type horse. We caught him having a marvelous roll in the snow and is shaking the extra off here. Sorry for the tight crop, but he was quite far away and there was another horse that wasn't adding to composition so I cut him out! LOL Have a great day everyone. We are expecting snow here later on I think. :)

That’s an image I took last weekend, where I went into our garden in the evening as the clouds opened up a bit to catch at least a bit of sunlight that day. Since our columbines and bleeding hearts are blooming currently, I got my camera and hoped to find some nice compositions. First I looked at the single-colored columbines before I noticed these purple-white colored ones, but unfortunately these were very close to the neighbors fence. I then squeezed myself between the flowers and the fence and tried to take some images in a pretty awkward position, where I didn’t focus properly in my first shot. I then looked at that image and thought that it might look good if I defocus even more such that I get some kind of bokeh-only shot, where you can still recognize the columbines by their shape. I then took a few more images in that awkward position, where I had to wait a bit for the sun to come through, and this is the one which turned out really nice in my opinion, since the whole image looks almost like a painting, even though it’s a bokeh-only photograph. Hope you like it too! :)

I composed this image in response to a photography challenge posed by a small group of fellow photographers: "create an image with a strong composition line." The photograph was taken while visiting Canada's Banff National Park.
