Oculus Transportation Center

World Trade Center

New York City

January 2018

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's formal name for the new PATH station and the associated transit and retail complex that opened on March 3, 2016. The station's renaming took place when the station reopened. It was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and composed of a train station with a large and open mezzanine under the National September 11 Memorial plaza. This mezzanine is connected to an aboveground head house structure called the Oculus—located between 2 World Trade Center and 3 World Trade Center.

How is it that I can carefully compose a picture without seeing the elephant in the frame? It was early July in eastern Oregon and this BLM mountainous stretch of landscape was already parched and dry. It was a particularly hot evening and the sun was getting ready to go down. I had spotted the camper and pickup truck down in the valley when I composed this shot... but I was later surprised while processing the photo to discover that there were two massive snow banks nestled up against the face of the mountain. I simply had not seen them when peering through the view finder. I guess the fact that there was snow in a hot, dry landscape didn't connect in my mind. Please tell me that I am not the only one that does this!

I composed this between-the-seasons canyon photograph while hiking near Alberta's Marble Canyon. I recognized that there was "a lot going on" in this image, but I found each element beautiful in its own way, and like good friends, the various elements complimented one another. I hope you enjoy.

Composed of a park of several hectares, varied gardens and monumental works, but also a 19th century Norman castle that houses exhibitions, the Contemporary Art Center is an atypical place in the Rouen countryside. The castle is located in a 6-hectare park with different universes that evolve with the seasons: the Japanese garden, the garden of the five rooms, the arboretum and the Italian Renaissance rose garden, all populated with monumental sculptures by famous artists (Peter Briggs, Norman Dilworth, Quentin Garel, Vera Molnar, etc.).

Here was my second attempt to quickly make an interesting comp as the pretty sunset light faded into night. Below was my other attempt posted yesterday.

Hand held capture at higher ISO next to the end of the school I was near looking back at the suburban row homes that were built outside Baltimore in the 1950's. I liked the warm light that was on the school wall, so composed this view up with that at the focal point, and the brick wall being one lead in, and then the sidewalk being another.

You can still see some ice that was there left from the snowstorm we had a week ago ... I am surprised the schools were still not closed if there was ice about (I joke).

"You don't just wake up and become the butterfly . . . Growth is a process."

In medieval times, the structure that now makes up the palace was divided into two different properties; this subdivision also persisted at the beginning of the 16th century, with the left part belonging to Lord Odorico da Povo and the right part belonging to Andrea Regio, collaborator of the Prince Bishop of Trent Bernardo Clesio. The two façades presented different decorative styles, while the intention of the Prince Bishop was to have a façade in keeping with the Renaissance taste on the Contrada Larga (the old name of the current Via Rodolfo Belenzani).

The insistence of the ecclesiastic pushed the two owners to sell and, around 1536, the two shares were purchased by Antonio de Ziliis of Quetta, a friend of Bishop Bernardo Clesio since his youth, and who had become a diplomat and jurist holding the position of Chancellor of the Episcopal Principality of Trent. The new owner transformed the two buildings into a single residence, also trying to standardize the styles and intervening on the portal and the windows of the facade.
