957 Private John Ronald Buckmaster, 16th. Platoon, 'D' Company, 11th. Battalion,
Australian Infantry, 1st. Division, Australian Imperial Force.
Born on 13th. September 1894 in Framlingham, Suffolk, one of four children of John and Emily Buckmaster of Framlingham. John attended school in Framlingham and worked labouring jobs on local farms.
He emigrated to Western Australia in 1913. There he worked as a scrub clearer at Wilberforce for the next 12 months.
Enlisting on 18th. August 1914 at Helena Vale, Western Australia where it was recorded that John was 5 ft. 9 in. tall of fair complexion. He trained at Blackboy Camp as an original member of 11th. Battalion.
He embarked for Europe aboard HMAT Ascanius from Fremantle on 2nd. November 1914, but the convoy was diverted to join troops of the 1st. Division for training in Egypt. On the morning of 25th. April 1915 John was among the first Australian troops to land on Gallipoli and spent the following four months fighting on the peninsula. In late August he came down with a serious case of influenza and was evacuated to a hospital in Malta and then to England.
John rejoined the 11th. Battalion in Egypt in January 1916.
In April the battalion redeployed to the Western Front and spent the following weeks in the relatively quiet 'nursery sector' in the area around Armentières.
In July troops of the 1st. Division were transported to the Somme. The 1st. Division was given the task of capturing the formidable German stronghold at Pozières, with the 11th. Battalion attacking from the south-west corner of the village.
Just hours before the attack was set to begin, German artillery fired on the Australian positions with high explosives and shrapnel and John was killed in action on Tuesday 25th. July 1916, aged 21.
A report from 4064 A.A. Lockhart states,
"We were in the line at Pozieres, there were three of us in the same area, Buckmaster was about 100 yards in front of me and a shell burst, killed him. This happened at daybreak. When I came back at 10 a.m. I saw his body laying where he had been killed. I do not know the place of burial".
At letter dated 16th. January 1917 from Capt. G.G. Campbell, 11th. Battalion reads,
"957 L/Cpl J.R. Buckmaster is posted as "Missing" but there is no doubt that he was killed and buried during an intense bombardment on 25.7.16."
John he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian National Monument at Villers-Bretonneux, Somme, France.

William died on Monday 4th. November 1918. He is buried in Grave: I. B. 20. at Cross Roads Cemetery, Fontaine -au- Bois, Nord, France.

Lt-Commander John Cyril Fitzrobert Borrett, HMS Invincible, Royal Navy.
Born on 13th. April 1883 at Preston, Lancashire, the youngest son of Major General Herbert Charles Borrett CB (1841 - 1917), King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, and Charlotte Anne Borrett, nee Bennett (1849 - 1931), of Lancaster Lodge, Reading, Berkshire.
Brother of Ann Laura (b. 1868), Herbert Percy (b. 1869), Charles Tuthill (b. 1871), Cecil Arthur (b. 1872), Thomas Lionel (b. 1873), Gertrude Holmes (B. 1876), Oswald Cuthbert (b. 1878), Harold Giles (b. 1881) and Constance Ivy Eleanor (b. 1886)
John was one of 61 candidates who were accepted for Naval Cadetships in the January 1898 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia. Following competitive examinations he obtained a scores of 1,892 marks, placing him 30th. of 61.
Between March 1912 and 15th. January 1914, he was in command of HMS Widgeon, a river gunboat that served on the China Station.
John was appointed to the battlecruiser HMS Invincible on 2nd. August 1914.
HMS Invincible was the lead ship of her class of three battlecruisers built for the Royal Navy during the first decade of the 20th. century and the first battlecruiser to be built by any country in the world. During the First World War, she participated in the Battle of Heligoland Bight in a minor role, as she was the oldest and slowest of the British battlecruisers present. During the Battle of the Falkland Islands, Invincible and her sister ship Inflexible sank the armoured cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau almost without loss to themselves, despite numerous hits by the German ships.
On 31st. May 1916 she was Rear-Admiral Horace Hood's flagship of the 3rd. Battlecruiser Squadron during the Battle of Jutland.
At 18:21 Invincible turned south, the German Admiral Franz von Hipper's battlecruisers Lützow, Derfflinger and Seydlitz were 9,000 yards (8.2 km) away and Invincible, and her sister ships, Inflexible and Indomitable, almost immediately opened fire. Indomitable hit Derfflinger three times and Seydlitz once, while Lützow quickly took 10 hits from the battlecruiser HMS Lion, Inflexible and Invincible, including two hits below the waterline by Invincible that would ultimately doom her.
At 18:30 Invincible abruptly appeared as a clear target before Lützow and Derfflinger. The two German ships then fired three salvoes each at Invincible and sank her in 90 seconds. At least one 305 mm (12 in.) shell from the third salvo struck her midships 'Q' turret. The shell penetrated the front of 'Q' turret, blew off the roof and detonated the midships magazines, which blew Invincible in half. The explosion possibly ignited 'A' and 'X' magazines. Of her complement of 1,031 officers and men, 1,026 were killed, including Rear-Admiral Hood. The six survivors were picked up by the destroyer HMS Badger. Five of the six were stationed in the fore control top located on the tripod foremast.
Invincible sank in 180 ft. (55 m) of water in position 57°02′40″N 06°07′15″E.
John died on Wednesday 31st. May 1916, aged 33. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on Panel 11 of the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Portsmouth, Hampshire.
Also commemorated on a personnel memorial in St. Peter's Church at Cransford.

Born in July 1887 at Tannington, Suffolk, the son of William and Emily Pipe, nee Hampton.

The father of Grace M.A. Wright b. 1902, Gladys Ethel Pipe b. 1905, and Gordon Clarence Pipe b. 1907, all born in Dennington.
Clarence was killed in action, aged 39, on Wednesday 11th. April 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Bay 4 of the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France
Clarence is also remembered on the roll of honour inside St. Mary's church, Dennington.
88067 Private Harry Frank Ranson, Royal Army Medical Corps.
Born on 25th. December 1884 at Hitcham, Suffolk, the son of Walter, a Baptist Minister, and Esther Maria Ranson, nee Gosling, of Cransford.
Brother of Walter George, Arthur Cornelius, Frederick Willie, Ellen Louisa, Martha Florence, Alice Maude, Gertrude Jane and Herbert Stanley.
The 1901 census records Harry employed as a poultryman. The 1911 census records him as a drapers porter.
Harry served with the RAMC. In combat he would have followed the troops over the top into no mans land. The RAMC suffered losses of 743 officers and 6,130 soldiers killed while delivering medical care to wounded exposed to enemy fire.
Harry was discharged from the Army due to wounds on 14th. June 1919, he was given a Silver Badge, issue number 453408. He died from his wounds at Ipswich on Wednesday 24th. August 1921, aged 36. He is buried in Grave: X. 5. 27. at Ipswich Old Cemetery, Ipswich, Suffolk.
18088 Private George Swann, 7th. Battalion, Suffolk Regiment.
Born in 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Swann of Cransford.
Husband of W. Swann of Framlingham, Suffolk.
George died of wounds on Wednesday 19th. July 1916, aged 28. He is buried in Grave: XIV. A. 5. at Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France with the personal inscription,

I used the Time Machine: Early Color filter on Paint Shop Pro, and desaturated the moisturizer to make it stand out more. It's a bit out of focus because I was using a tripod on manual focus pointed into the mirror, so it's not quite there but it's close enough for me. :p

Royal Coronation Aurora is fully deboxed, and is posed standing, supported by a Kaiser stand. She can free stand, but is very unstable that way. Photographed in daylight.
Review of Royal Coronation Aurora Doll
Her face is pretty, but bland and generic. She only has a passing resemblance to the movie character, as portrayed by Elle Fanning. She doesn't have very realistic features, but looks like an ordinary doll painted to look like an animated character. She has a light complexion, small blue green eyes gazing straight ahead, brown eyebrows, small straight nose, light pink lips on a small mouth, large chin, and light rouge on her cheeks.
She has long golden blonde hair that reaches her hips. There is a solitary long curl hanging from her left side. The rest of her hair is slightly wavy, and is grouped in a single mass, which I left alone. It would look better if it were combed out, but I was afraid that it might get frizzy if I attempted to do so. The hair is shiny and soft, and doesn't appear to have any hair product.
The dress is golden brocaded satin, with a floral design. The underside is very light tan in color. There is also a painted floral overlay in pink and green, which is only in the front of the dress (the front of the skirt and bodice). There is golden lace trim at the hem, waist and collar and cuffs. Her collar and cuffs end in white organza. The skirt is pleated, and almost floor length. The bodice has a high waist, with a golden belt sewn around it. Her sleeves are full length. There is a over sized train sewn to the back of the dress, just below the waist. It made of the same material and has the same decoration as the front of the skirt. Its underside is fully lined with gold satin. The dress looks and feels luxurious, and fit for royalty.
She is wearing tan colored heels, with a simulated strap and an unpainted embossed floral design. She is wearing a gold colored plastic crown that is made to look like a floral wreath, that goes halfway around her head. It is secured only by two T-tab fasteners, so it is not meant to be removed or used on other dolls.
Her body is made of hard plastic throughout. She has seven points of articulation: her neck, shoulders, elbows and hips. Her hands are permanently tilted back to make the standard Princess pose. Her feet are fixed at an angle to wear high heels. Her head can turn 360 degrees around, and can tilt up about 20 degrees, and tilt down 10 degrees. Her arms can swivel about the shoulders 360 degrees, and can tilt about 20 degrees. Her forearms can swivel around her elbows almost 360 degrees, but cannot go completely around. They can tilt back about 20 degrees, and forward about 60 degrees. Her hips can swivel 90 degrees both back and forth, and can tilt out about 30 degrees. She has white painted on underwear, which looks like a strapless one piece bathing suit.
Packaging and Deboxing
It was easy to debox Coronation Aurora, compared to most Disney Store dolls. First step was to remove the clear plastic cover from the box, by cutting the tape around the edges, and lifting the tabs free from the cardboard. Aurora is standing on a small cardboard spacer. Behind her is a printed background from the movie, which is common to all the dolls in this series. There was only plastic T-tab fasteners securing her to the backing and the plastic spacer. It was possible to reach all the fasteners and snip them off, without having to remove the large plastic spacer. It turned out that the fastener that was supposed to go into the back of her head didn't make it past her hair, so she didn't have a post sticking out of her head when I snipped the fastener loose. The other end of the fastener was just laying loose in her hair. There was tissue paper around her legs, but only up to her knees, to make the skirt look fuller in the box.

I just received the four available Jakks Pacific dolls from the Maleficent movie in single doll packages. I ordered them from Toys R Us on Friday night and got them Tuesday, with free shipping. I appreciated the quick shipping, compared to the Disney Store. The dolls are the following, with links to the TRU site. All the dolls are 11 1/2'' H. The Coronation dolls are $39.95 each, the other two are $19.95.
Kilmorey Mausoleum (1854)
HE Kendall
The 2nd Earl of Kilmorey built this mausoleum in 1854 on a plot he had secured at Brompton Cemetery. The pink and grey Egyptian style mausoleum cost over £30,000 and was moved by the Earl two times before his death at the age of 92 in 1880.
Francis Jack Needham, known by some as ‘Black Jack’ due to his dark complexion, succeeded his father as the Second Earl of Kilmorey in 1832. At various times, he lived in five different houses in Twickenham, including Gordon House, St Margaret’s House and, further towards Hampton, at Orleans House, Cross Deep and Radnor House.
Kilmorey spent much of his early life in Twickenham with his mistress, Priscilla Hoste. Their relationship developed from his friendship with her parents Captain William Hoste and Lady Harriet Walpole. When Captain Hoste died, the Earl became a guardian of the children and in the early 1840s he eloped with Priscilla. A search was mounted but it appeared that they had fled abroad, without trace. After their return to England, their son, Charles, was born at Cross Deep House on the 19th of July, 1844.
When Priscilla became ill in 1851 with a terminal heart condition, Kilmorey began making preparations for her burial and in 1853 wrote to Brompton Cemetery regarding a select plot. It took over a year for the details to be settled and approved by the Home Secretary and cost Kilmorey £1,030 16s 9d.
The architect, Mr. H.E. Kendall, designed the £30,000 mausoleum to fit the circular plot at Brompton Cemetery which measured 1,963 square feet. The Egyptian design is believed to have been derived from a plate in a French book Description de l’Egypte published in 1809. The shape of the building relates to the shrines at the heart of Egyptian Temples – the place where a treasured image of a god was installed.
When Priscilla died in October 1854, her coffin was inscribed with the words “the beloved of Francis Jack Earl of Kilmorey”. Inside the mausoleum, the Earl installed a marble relief carved in Rome by Lawrence MacDonald (1799-1878) which showed Priscilla lying on her death bed, with the Earl at her feet and her son Charles by her side. Her burial was a private matter and years later Priscilla’s whereabouts were still a secret as the Middlesex Chronicle had reported that the mausoleum “contained the body of a dear friend”.
In 1862 when Kilmorey moved to Woburn Park, Chertsey, he moved the mausoleum with him at a cost of £700. Just six years later Kilmorey moved to Gordon House, moving the mausoleum for the last time.
At Gordon House the Earl made a tunnel to the mausoleum and it is said that, dressed in white and laid in his coffin, he would get his servants to push him on a trolley down the tunnel for practice.
After Kilmorey’s death in June 1880, Gordon House was left in trust to his illegitimate son, Charles Needham, until the time of his marriage. In 1895, Charles sold Gordon House for £10,000. In 1936 the grounds of the mausoleum were passed on in perpetuity to Hounslow Borough Council on condition that access would be maintained, although it was not for some time that anyone entered this secret cemetery.

8301 Lance Corporal James William Briggs, 2nd. Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment), Canadian Expeditionary Force.
Born on 12th. September 1895 at Southwold, Suffolk, the son of James William and Ruth Mary Briggs of The Five Bells Inn, South Cove.
James served 2 years with the Territorials in England before enlisting at Valcaitier, Canada on 23rd. September 1914, when the Army recorded that he was single, 5 ft. 9 in. tall with a fair complexion, blue eyes and red hair. His occupation was given as a labourer.
On 11th. May 1915 James was made a Lance Corporal.
James was killed in action, aged 21, on Tuesday 4th. April 1916. He is buried in Grave: II. G. 10. at Woods Cemetery, 4 km south-east of Leper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium with the personnel inscription,
'IN LOVING MEMORY OF WILLIE
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN'

John died, aged 24, on Friday 1st. September 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Panel 3 and 60 of the Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq.

Born 1890, the son of James and Alice Louisa Mower, nee Fenn.
Edward died, aged 27, on Thursday 3rd. May 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Bay 2 of the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

Born on 20th. March 1918, the fourth child and eldest son of Joseph Edward and Alice Emma Baldry, nee Dawson, of West End Farm Cottage, Wrentham, Suffolk.
Occupation, farm labourer.
Gordon became a prisoner of war of the Japanese when he was captured at Singapore on 15th. February 1942.
Put to work on the Thailand-Burma Railway, Gordon died, aged 25, on Sunday 12th. December 1943 from diarrhoea and ulcers. He was originally interred in Grave: 48 at Kanburi Hospital Cemetery No.3. On Friday 11th. January 1946 he was reinterred in Plot 2 Row C Grave 48 at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Kanchanaburi, Thailand with the personal inscription,

On 31st. March 1945, B-24J Liberator, serial number 42-51241, coded YM-T, of the 409th. Bomb Squadron, 93rd. Bomb Group took off from USAAF Station 104 at Hardwick, Norfolk loaded with 24 x 250 lb. bombs to attack the railway marshalling yards at Brunswick in Germany.
As the formation was assembling, the B-24 hit the propeller turbulence from another bomber, possibly 42-50907, and was thrown over onto its back. Laden with fuel and bombs the Liberator went into an uncontrollable spin. The tragedy was caught by the camera of S/Sgt. Edward T Sozesny, waist gunner aboard another 93rd. BG bomber. Either jettisoned by the crew or more likely flung from the disintegrating B-24 as it broke up just before the crash, the 24 bombs all fell in fields adjacent to Brick Kiln Farm. Eighteen of the bombs exploded, with one damaging windows at South Cove, Wrentham, and Reydon. At 5:30 a.m. the main part of the B-24 crashed into a field beside the Cove Bottom to South Cove road and exploded in a blazing fireball from which there was no hope of survival for any of the crew.
All the bodied were buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery at Madingley in Cambridgeshire.
Two bodies remain at Madingley, but the other seven were repatriated back to the United States for reburial.
Such was the carnage at the crash site that only four of the crew could be positively identified. Despite post-war attempts to identify the crew, the five identified remains were given a group burial at Arlington National Cemetery at Fort Myer, Virginia.
