One of the few parts of this old factory complex that actually looks like an old upstate New York factory, with brick walls and heavy wooden structural beams cut from trees that started growing two centuries ago (or longer).

This is on a top floor in one of the few areas that weren't converted to retail or office space.

The Wawel Royal Castle and the Wawel Hill on which it sits constitute the most historically and culturally significant site in Poland. A fortified residency on the Vistula River in Kraków, it was established on the orders of King Casimir III the Great[2] and enlarged over the centuries into a number of structures around an Italian-styled courtyard. It represents nearly all European architectural styles of the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The main cloister belonging to the Basilica of San Lorenzo is known as the 'Chiostro dei Canonici' and dates back to the last phase of the 15th century renovation of the complex ordered by the Medici family. The Basilica, serviced by Canons and dedicated to the martyr Laurence, was founded in antiquity and consecrated by St. Ambrose in 393 a. D. In 1418 the Canons' Chapter had the Basilica refurbished and enlarged by Filippo Brunelleschi. Works began in 1419/1420 and were completed, after the master's death, by his disciple Antonio Manetti Ciaccheri who conceived the two-storey loggia with the round arch arcade on the ground floor and the architrave on the upper one (1457-1460). Entering on the right, a statue of the Madonna and Child in the style of Desiderio da Settignano is immediately visible. The plaster statue is surrounded by a glazed terracotta frame and is dated 1513. Various plaques follow on the same side, most notably the one commemorating the renovations undertaken in the Basilica in 1742 and commissioned by Anna Maria Ludovica de'Medici. In the corner, at the far end of this side of the cloister, there are the stairs to the upper floor and to the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana; a niche in the wall at the left of the base of the stairs houses the marble statue of the Bishop of Como, the historian and collector Paolo Giovio (1483-1552), realized by Francesco da Sangallo in 1560. Always at the left of the stairs, further along the cloister, there is the entrance to the crypt which holds the tombs of Cosimo de'Medici the Elder and of the sculptor Donatello whilst through a gabled door there is the Canons' Chapter Chapel with late 15th century carved wooden pews.

Union Mill Complex, better known as the Chocolate Factory, next to the Kayaderosseras Creek in Ballston Spa, New York. In the late 20th century the buildings were restored and converted into commercial and office space.

In this one sliver of a wintry Manhattan I noticed a slew of fire escapes nestled between several structures. From this angle escaping from a building seems amazingly complex.

This temple complex occupied a hilltop overlooking the rest of the Ancient Siam Park. Not only was the temple interesting itself but the views from the top were great too as can be seen here.

As with a number of building in the park this is actually a half scale replica of the original. It was however still a pretty substantial building........

From Wikipedia : "Ancient Siam (also known as Ancient City, Thai: เมืองโบราณ, Mueang Boran) is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and spreading over 200 acres (0.81 km2) in the shape of Thailand.

The founder's original idea was to create a golf course with miniatures of Thailand's historically significant structures spread around the course. During his research he found most structures severely damaged and decided instead to create new miniatures, to save the original structures when possible, or to re-create them full size or scaled down.

Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. Close to the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan province, the 320-hectare 'city' features 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of Ancient Siam correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.

The replicas were constructed with the assistance of experts from the National Museum to ensure historical accuracy. Outstanding works include the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya (destroyed in the Burmese invasion of 1767), Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima, and Wat Khao Phra Viharn on the Cambodian border."

About Us

Welcome to Bathurst Miniature Railway Society. As a club we started in 1977 and today we operate and maintain nearly 600 metres of track at the John Mathew’s sporting complex in Durham Street Bathurst. Over the years we have added many buildings, features and a lot more track for both your enjoyment and ours. Many members, both past and present, have contributed to the scale and success of this layout.

Although members do all the work and running the track voluntarily there are always expenses for the continuous upkeep of the track, buildings, carriage, and grounds maintenance and our rides of only $2 each go back into the upkeep of this track. Everyone that comes for a ride believes that it is a good value, family day out.

The club, at present, has around 20 members from many different backgrounds, which contribute to the overall running of this club and considering that the members have built everything from the trains and track to the working signals and various buildings that you see. I am sure that when you are enjoying the ride you will agree that we put a lot of effort into making this track look as good as it does.

As a member of the AALS (Australian Association of Live Steamers) we cater for all various model engineering such as traction engines, tools and general model engineering… You will always find someone down here who will talk about various types of models that may take your interest.

Our track is made of 10mm x 20mm steel and is dual gauge 3.5” and 5” with 240 volt and air available at the steaming bay for visiting members of other clubs who are most welcome at our running days (3rd Sunday of the month). Your boiler certificate will need to be sighted. We also have a manually operated hydraulic lift for loading / unloading.

Considering we visited Bangkok in July at the the height of the rainy season we were lucky with the weather. It clouded over a bit later in the day but for the most part we had the benefit of some sunshine.

From Wikipedia : "The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. The king, his court and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), resided at Chitralada Royal Villa and his successor Vajiralongkorn at Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, both in the Dusit Palace, but the Grand Palace is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. The palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand.

Construction of the palace began on May 6, 1782, at the order of King Phutthayotfa Chulalok (Rama I), the founder of the Chakri Dynasty, when he moved the capital city from Thonburi to Bangkok. Throughout successive reigns, many new buildings and structures were added, especially during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). By 1925, the king, the Royal Family and the government were no longer permanently settled at the palace, and had moved to other residences. After the abolition of absolute monarchy in 1932, all government agencies completely moved out of the palace.

In shape, the palace complex is roughly rectangular and has a combined area of 218,400 square metres (2,351,000 sq ft), surrounded by four walls. It is situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River at the heart of the Rattanakosin Island, today in the Phra Nakhon District. The Grand Palace is bordered by Sanam Luang and Na Phra Lan Road to the north, Maharaj Road to the west, Sanamchai Road to the east and Thai Wang Road to the south.

Rather than being a single structure, the Grand Palace is made up of numerous buildings, halls, pavilions set around open lawns, gardens and courtyards. Its asymmetry and eclectic styles are due to its organic development, with additions and rebuilding being made by successive reigning kings over 200 years of history. It is divided into several quarters: the Temple of the Emerald Buddha; the Outer Court, with many public buildings; the Middle Court, including the Phra Maha Monthien Buildings, the Phra Maha Prasat Buildings and the Chakri Maha Prasat Buildings; the Inner Court and the Siwalai Gardens quarter. The Grand Palace is currently partially open to the public as a museum, but it remains a working palace, with several royal offices still situated inside."

The Richardson Olmsted Complex in Buffalo, New York was designed by architect HH Richardson and landscape planner Frederick Olmsted in 1870. Originally the complex was built to be a hospital to treat mental illness. It was in use as Buffalo State Hospital until the 1970s. Today the 93-acre complex is being redeveloped with a mix of uses including a hotel.

The Richardson Olmsted Complex is a National Historic Landmark.

Marina City is a residential/commercial building complex sitting on the north bank of the Chicago River in Chicago, directly across from the Loop district. Consisting of two corncob-shaped towers (587-foot, 65-story), it occupies an entire city block on State Street. The complext also includes a saddle-shaped auditorium building, and a mid-rise hotel, all on a raised platform next to the river.

Designed by Bertrand Goldberg, Marina City was the first building in the United States to be constructed with tower cranes. It was completed in 1964 at a cost of $36 million.
