I solved a Rubik's Cube and handed it to him.

Then he said "AUM".

I buy this canvas on a roll and it comes primed white - though I will often gesso it black over the white.

I've recently "created" a few maps I'll upload regularly.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie and the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) celebrated the substantial completion of the H-1 Freeway Rehabilitation Project at a dedication ceremony at Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, overlooking the freeway. The project reconstructed and resurfaced one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the state and added an extra travel lane in both directions in less than 11 months. New LED street lighting, added drainage, and glare screens were also installed to improve highway safety.

The Canadian Pacific Railway was Canada's first transcontinental railway (although to this day it does not have track in any of the Atlantic provinces). On completion, it was the longest railway line in the world. Its construction was also quite the feat, as it was done in a huge country with a tiny population and small capital resources, with terrain that posed massive engineering challenges.

During its negotiations with Canada about its entry into Confederation as a new province, British Columbia sought a transportation link with the rest of the country as one of its requirements for joining. While B.C. only sought a wagon road, the federal government offered to build a railroad connecting B.C. to the eastern provinces within 10 years. The federal government's motivation was its belief that such a connection was necessary to build and unite a larger Canada; moreover, industries in Ontario and Quebec sought better access to the resources of the west.

B.C. became a province in 1871. Due to financial failures and political scandal, work did not commence within the 10 year deadline for completion. After negotiating for another 10 year period of time, construction of the line began in Bonfield, Ontario in 1881 with the driving of the "first spike". The original route was altered to favour a route closer to the American border, to forestall American railroads from expanding into the country. Despite numerous hardships, including the difficulty of building through the Rockies, financial woes, and the 1885 Northwest Rebellion (also known as the Second Riel Rebellion), construction of the track completed in November 1885.

The last spike was driven at this spot in British Columbia on November 7, 1885. It was driven by Donald Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, who was a member of the CPR board of directors. The spike that was used was an ordinary iron spike, rather than a ceremonial gold or silver one. The spike was removed shortly after the ceremony and replaced with another to deter those who might remove it as a souvenir. Driving the last spike did not mark the completion of the railway, as other infrastructure had to be constructed. The first transcontinental passenger train did not operate on the line until June 1886.

As now, there was no village or town at the spot where the last spike was driven. Craigellachie is simply a name given to the location of the last spike. It was named after Craigellachie, Scotland, the home town of the first president of the CPR, Sir George Stephen. When Sir George successfully secured investment for the CPR during a trip to the U.K, he sent a wire to the company stating "Stand fast, Craigellachie!"

There is a famous photo of Smith driving the last spike. I can only think that the weather was unbearable, given that November is hardly the best of times in that part of the province.

After the completion of Premier Skills Phase One in December 2011, 19 coaches including 5 from South Sudan returned to their communities to begin coaching 10 established teams. Coaches will select players for the youth league national team who will compete in a football final held in Juba.

4 coaches from Sudan will be selected to join the team on the journey to Juba, which could be the first time they have travelled to South Sudan since the country became independent.

I just finished making a new outfit, this time a Jedi Guardian. (I blame all the Old Republic news articles for my random Star Wars kick lately). Two week project, but I really like it. The image is a complete screenshot- the only photoshopping being the border of the image and it's vignette/blur.
