At completion of LBJ NHP's project to employ local volunteers to restore riparian habitat along Town Creek and associated wetlands. Alien invading Chinese Tallow in wetland associated with Town Creek, LBJ National Historical Park. These trees were treated with varying girdling techniques which resulted in the deaths of the main trunks of the small trees seen in this image. The challenge that girdling involves with Chinese Tallow is their ability to both bridge the gap where the bark was stripped off by girdling and the fact that the trees sprout from their basal shoots at ground level, hence they continue living and producing seeds which are spread by birds. The unfortunate fact about Chinese Tallows is their love of wetlands and their ability to quickly dominate riparian areas if not controlled. This is a scene from 2020 which can be compared to today's view soon to be included here.

Gov. Neil Abercrombie and the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) celebrated the substantial completion of the H-1 Freeway Rehabilitation Project at a dedication ceremony at Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, overlooking the freeway. The project reconstructed and resurfaced one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the state and added an extra travel lane in both directions in less than 11 months. New LED street lighting, added drainage, and glare screens were also installed to improve highway safety.

Upon its completion the Michigan Theater could seat 4,050 patrons, In addition to films in its prime years, the theatre hosted performances of bands led by John Philip Sousa, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey and Harry James as well as live performances by The Marx Brothers, Betty Grable and Bob Hope.[4]

The theater ceased operations in 1976 after operating as a nightclub named The Michigan Palace. The office tenants threatened to leave unless they received adequate parking. To retain the tenants, building owners gutted and converted the theater into a parking structure. The theater could not be completely demolished and replaced by a parking structure because it is integral to the structure of the office building. The ornate plaster ceiling of the theater auditorium and grand lobby, at the ninth floor level, are still intact, as are parts of the mezzanine, the 2nd and 3rd balcony foyers and their staircases. The projection booth is also still intact.

Mercer Corridor Project’s Substantial Completion

In August 2015, the West Phase of the Mercer Corridor Project reached substantial completion – meaning all major closures and improvements to the corridor are complete! All that remains is a localized closure on Roy St. and some low-key maintenance items with associated lane closures around the area, including landscaping, striping, and a few repairs.

The company poses following the completion of the Agatha Holmes season finale: ‘The Little Hint of the Left Hand’, guest starring Luke Allan as Senior Detectival Inspectable Alan Foster.

Agatha Holmes’ assistant Wastings reads in the paper that Scotland Yard is sending its finest inspector, Alan Foster, to Cadsworth Manor. His aim: to find sufficient evidence to apprehend the five inhabitants therein for the murders they have committed. With a start, Wastings realises that the five killers would surely have no qualms about dispatching Foster, and he and Agatha Holmes vow to go straight to the manor to prevent this.

Upon arrival, it does indeed appear that every member of Lady Augusta’s household is hell-bent on killing the policeman. Foster is a clever detective, and with the aid of his patented “drop his police helmet and fondle the suspect’s legs” trick, he is well on his way to collecting all the incriminating evidence he needs. Holmes, meanwhile, is so preoccupied with knocking possibly-poisoned cups of tea from Foster’s hand that he is surprised when a blood-curdling scream echoes through the manor – and he is horrified to discover that it is not Foster, but his friend Wastings who is the victim of murder most foul.

It’s up to Foster to help the great detective get back on track and solve the crime. Was it Augusta Wellesley, angered by Wastings rejecting her advances? Or was it perhaps Antony Thatcher, who brazenly admits to wishing to kill “any tall, lanky man with slicked-back hair”? What of the cakes that have disappeared from Pickering’s kitchen? Ultimately, it is unveiled that Desmonda Fontaine, addled by a thick haze of morphine, has stabbed Wastings with a syringe filled with the same drug – clumsily, and with her left hand – when he tried to prevent her leaving the manor to attend a film premiere. Holmes realises that his best friend is therefore not dead, but in a deep sleep, and the two are reunited.

Sagrada Família Barcelona, Spain - situation 2017

Construction of the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família began in 1882. The temple is still under construction, with completion expected in 2026. It is perhaps the best known structure of Catalan Modernism, drawing over three million visitors annually. Architect Antoni Gaudi worked on the project until his death in 1926, in full anticipation he would not live to see it finished.

Gaudi was appointed architect in 1883 at 31 years of age, following disagreements between the temple’s promoters and the original architect, Francisco de Paula del Villar y Lozano. He maintained del Villar’s Latin cross plan, typical of Gothic cathedrals, but departed from the Gothic in several significant ways. Most notably, Gaudi developed a system of angled columns and hyperbolical vaults to eliminate the need for flying buttresses. Rather than relying on exterior elements, horizontal loads are transferred through columns on the interior. La Sagrada Familia utilizes three-dimensional forms comprised of ruled surfaces, including hyperboloids, parabolas, helicoids, and conoids. These complex shapes allow for a thinner, finer structure, and are intended to enhance the temple’s acoustics and quality of light. Gaudi used plaster models to develop the design, including a 1:10 scale model of the main nave measuring five meters in height and width by two meters in depth. He also devised a system of strings and weights suspended from a plan of the temple on the ceiling. From this inverted model he derived the necessary angles of the columns, vaults, and arches. This is evident in the slanted columns of the Passion facade, which recall tensile structures but act in compression.

Gaudi embedded religious symbolism in each aspect of La Sagrada Familia, creating a visual representation of Christian beliefs. He designed three iconic facades for the basilica, the Glory, Nativity, and Passion facades, facing south, east, and west, respectively. The sculpting of the Nativity facade recalls smooth, intricate corbelling and was overseen by Gaudi. The Passion Facade is characterized by the work of Josep Maria Subirachs, whose angular sculptures extend the modernist character of the temple. The sculptor Etsuro Sotoo is responsible for the window ornaments and finials, which symbolize the Eucharist. The central nave soars to a height of 45 meters, and is designed to resemble a forest of multi-hued piers in Montjuïc and granite. The piers change in cross section from base to terminus, increasing in number of vertices from polygonal to circular. The slender, bifurcating columns draw the eye upward, where light filters through circular apertures in the vaults. These are finished in Venetian glass tiles of green and gold, articulating the lines of the hyperboloids.

Once completed, La Sagrada Familia will feature eighteen towers. Four bell towers representing the Apostles crown each facade, reaching approximately 100 meters in height. At the north end, a tower representing the Virgin Mary will stand over the apse. The central tower will reach 72 meters in height and symbolize Christ, surrounded by four towers representing the Evangelists. Even as construction continues, older portions are undergoing cleaning and restoration. The temple has relied entirely on private donations since its inception, and has seen many delays due to lack of funding. A particularly significant setback occurred during the Spanish Civil War, when Gaudi’s workshop was destroyed, including much of the documentation he left behind. Subsequent generations of craftsman and architects have relied on the remaining drawings and plaster models to advance the project, adhering to Gaudi’s vision as closely as possible. As a result, the design of the temple is a collaboration spanning centuries. Gaudi himself viewed the project as the collective work of generations. "I will grow old but others will come after me. What must always be conserved is the spirit of the work, but its life has to depend on the generations it is handed down to and with whom it lives and is incarnated."

In recent decades, La Sagrada Familia has adopted contemporary digital design and construction technologies. Architects and craftsmen use Rhinoceros, Cadds5, Catia, and CAM to understand the complex geometries and visualize the building as a whole. Plaster models are still used as a design tool, now generated by a 3-D printer to accelerate the process.

Top, bandsaw rough cut of one of the hoops and the ever-so-teeny chamfer around the faceplate hole.

Bottom, a different hoop glued to the faceplate and cleaned up with a flush-cutting bit. Next week I'll do the same with the two remaining hoops. You can also see how I routed out a bunch of the faceplate's thickness, and made a recess for the glass with the rabbeting bit.

On the whole I like working with the router - it's such a versatile and precise tool that makes such lovely clean cuts. But for some reason I've come close to getting injured more times using a router table than anything else. Maybe I just don't have a good sense of it, but at least all I've had is surprises and no lost fingers. This evening I was trying a test cut for depth with the rabbeting bit and the router knocked the scrap I was using out of my hand so hard I had to look for a minute to find where it went. Yikes.

Built on the former site of a shopping centre next door to its former store (which traded as Lloyds until September 1993), there has been some sort of delay a few years ago as it sparked some backlash.

Traffic on North East Rd, especially during peak hours would be slowed to a 'snail's pace' due to frequent truck movement and a number of small businesses would be heavily impacted.

However, despite the debates, the project went ahead.

Certificate Distribution ceremony among teaches after completion of

ECD training.

CHITRAL: Certificate Distribution ceremony was held at Eagle Eyes

Education Institution (EEEI) Dulomos after completion of 20 days

Early Childhood development (ECD) for 18 teachers from different

schools. Dr. Mir Afzal Tajik head of professional Development Center

Aga Khan University was chief guest on the occasion. Mrs. Maryam

educationist from Canada said while addressing the occasion that

learning process is starting from first day of the birth upto 4 years.

She said that unfortunately in past we enroll our children after 7

years of age but that was wrong and according to latest research

mental level of children growth from zero to four years. She said

that the program was introduced by Canadian organization in Chitral

Pakistan to render ECD training to teachers for imparting quality

education to children. Some participants also expressed their views

regarding this training belonging to very far flung and remote areas

of Chitral. They said that after completion of this 20 days training

they enabled them to teach their students in playing and not be

torture them because their mental growth stop due to torturing and

aggression. Dr. Mir Afzal Tajik said that mostly we enroll our

children in schools after 5 or 7 years and they learn more wrong

things during this period so a teacher first remove these from their

mental and like brain washing and then teach them. So we should to

enroll our children in very early age. He said that concept of ECD has

been introduced 4 years ago and it is very fruitful especially for

children look after and their caring that how they should teach in

early age and by which means and sources. At last chief guest

distributed certificates among the successful participants of the

training (course). Besides him a large number of educationists,

social workers, Teachers participated in certificate distribution

ceremony.
