A late summer camping trip to Yosemite brought warm temperatures, clear skies, and very little water in the Merced River and the Falls. In this view from the Valley View turnout, the Merced River is extremely low, with rocks showing everywhere. Bridalveil Falls is only a mist. Around the bend, Yosemite Falls is completely dry.

The Skye Museum of island which consists of seven traditional thatched cottages, offers visitors a unique experience and a true insight into island life 100 years ago. Opened in 1965, the aim of the museum was to completely preserve a township of thatched cottages, each depicting the conditions that 19th century crofters faced.
Rattennest Castle
The first mention of Rattennest Castle (then called Groenenborch) dates from 1426. It was almost completely destroyed in 1583.
The wealthy banker family Spinola, originally from Genoa but living in Antwerp, used this enormous estate as a country house. In 1688, a Spinola descendant sold the castle.
On 21 June 1741, the castle 'Groenenborch alias den Rattennest' and the accompanying grounds were sold on the Vrijdagmarkt in Antwerp.
The present building dates from the first half of the 18th century and was restored in 1807.
During and after the Second World War, the estate was severely neglected. It was largely parcelled out in 1948. The castle and part of the original estate remained untouched. Around 1950, the court pond and outer moat were filled in.
In 1981, the castle was protected as a monument.

Completely out of sequence. This was taken as our bus crossed the border from Canada to the US, a milestone on the June Tour. We had just stopped at border control, a painless presentation of passports.
Something of a contrast with the re-entry after the Rhine Cruise, which happened during our flight layover in Toronto. Friendly arrangement between the US & Canada to pass security and sit in the US at the lounge and gate while waiting to board. But the security process was back to shoe bomber days. I hope that’s just an expression of caution, not a response to known threats, in these troubled days.
(Yes, the title is an intentional reference to Neil Diamond’s classic song. Who says Americans don’t understand irony, or nuance?)
Completely empty last year this lake is now full to overflowing. The blue sky with some mundane clouds was distracting so the sky was eliminated

An awesome and fascinating bird. While this bird can't walk on water it can walk under it. Its range is in the mountains of Western North and Central America. It is an elevational migrant only moving down a stream course if it becomes completely frozen over. They have feathered white eyelids and they build their nest in very difficult places for predators to access, sometimes even behind a waterfall. There are 5 subspecies of dippers found in the world and they are most closely related to the Thrushes.
And I’m not talking about my little green buddy. He was perched on a tangle of floating plants in the middle of the bayou and there was no way of getting close to him without being noticed. He stopped foraging when I arrived and departed soon after I took this shot. You can manage “almost” walking on water when you are as light as this little character…with the help of a floating mass of vegetation. Green Heron foraging on Horsepen Bayou. I might add that he’s still dressed in his breeding colors and the blue lores and the salmon-colored legs can still be seen clinging on to this Greenie.

With my sights set on 3 CP/BNSF trains that were in the area today, I had completely forgotten that the Apache may be in the picture also. As I topped the hill just outside Holbrook, I heard the conductor ask for a set over the radio. Sure enough there they were in the yard doing their brake test and shortly after that the roll-by inspection before leaving on the southbound run back to Snowflake. A quick detour to Romero St. to set up and here they come in all their carbon-filled glory with 23 cars on the pin. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
EN: The photographer was completely surprised when the last Re 4/4 II in "Swiss-Express livery" appeared in front of train 915 on the morning of 28.03.2021. According to plan, a normal red Re 4/4 II would have been assigned, but apparently there was a change.
The locomotives in this livery, along with matching type EW III carriages, were to herald a change in Swiss long-distance traffic in the 1970s. The Swiss Express was the SBB's showpiece train at the time, serving the SBB's most important transport axis, the Geneva-Lausanne-Bern-Zurich-St. Gallen route. Unfortunately, not much remains of that time and only 2 locomotives still exist in this colour scheme. Due to its advanced age, however, only locomotive 11109 is still used as scheduled, 11108 meanwhile leads a survival with overrun and towing trips. It is not known how long these two unique locomotives will continue to exist, but the time of the Re 4/4 II has definitely also passed.

Completely struck out on wildlife today until we saw this Eagle sunning itself as we were leaving. Don't typically take images of sitting Eagles. Not a good day for us with a long drive home after striking out.

The "QR code for the place" on the wall outside the window is a new-born relic of the past, after six months of monitoring the lives of the residents, as China has completely abandoned its anti-epidemic restrictions.
Theoretically, each customer was supposed to scan the "QR code for the place" with his/her smartphone, which then displayed a so-called "health QR code": if it was green, it meant there is no problem, if it was yellow, the customer would be refused and, if it was red, everyone, whether the customer with the red QR code or the shop assistants who were present, would be arrested and taken to a concentration camp for quarantine.
This chapel was built in or around 1240, but it was decorated completely different. You wouldn't guess it, because it looks rather tasteful, but all the interior decoration except the flags and the windows was made in the 19th century. In 1866 they had a cholera epidemic and the bishop of Amiens thought it would be a good idea to follow the cult of Sacré-Cœur (Sacred Heart). Usually Sacred Heart means that there is a Jesus somewhere who points at his bleeding heart entwined by thorns. Luckily not here. Eugène Viollet-le-Duc painted the decoration of the chapel. Théodore Maillot and Auguste Steinheil painted the saints. Placide Poussielgue-Rusand made the altar and Aimé and Louis Duthoit made the statues. All in the 19th century. The windows were made in 1932-1933 by Jean Gaudin in the 20th century. And the flags are those of the allies that defended Amiens in 1918.
Completely different train on a completely different subdivision but I didn't want to post this photo just by itself. Would've been better if those two GEs weren't in the consist but it's not everyday that there's a UP heritage unit on the Brooks sub so I can't complain too much.
45118 works its way back to Leeds in weather completely different to that when it headed south. The platform end completely deserted at this point, would soon be swamped, not only by water, but passengers blocking most pre-planned reflection opportunities.
8-10 mm. Completely reddish brown colored blowhead fly with yellow head. The different species from this genus are difficult to distinguish. Only the females can be determined with certainty, based on the shape of the cleat. The ordinary crooked body has a light that is flattened and barely protruding.
Similar species
Looks a lot like the mystical crook body, but can be distinguished by the flattened cleat. Species from the genus Myopa are also colored red-brown, but have a white head.
Biotope
The species parasitizes on bumblebees and can therefore be found everywhere where bumblebees can be found: from gardens and city parks to moors and bogs.
Appearance
A general species that is spread all over the Netherlands. Flight time late May to early September.
Herkenning
8-10 mm.
Completely forgot about this amazing evening on Endrick Water. The mist suddenly dropped as the sun set. I had just got back to the car but luckily looked behind me and then spent the next hour shooting with the Arrochar Alps behind.
And now for something completely different... view large on black if you like.
Photo was taken at sunset last night in Fort Collins Colorado. No photoshop, all the fantastical color comes from the Cokin Blue-Yellow Polarizer and Cokin sunset filter (P 197) stacked. The water is just a puddle from all of our quickly melting snow.
Pippi has completely made herself at home.
I woke up this morning to Sadie whimpering because Pippi was in her bed and wouldn't leave. In this photo she's napping on top of one of three heated mats in our home.
If you notice some fuzzy strings around her neck, that is a "turtleneck" I've devised for her. She came to us with a pretty serious neck lesion that she had done to herself. I cut the ribbed part of George's old socks to make a small turtleneck for her. Her skin is almost completely healed. So life is pretty good for Pippi and she has been a wonderful distraction for all of us this winter.

Reflections in one of the two small reservoirs in La Barranca in th evening with the waters completely calm and the silence accompanying this relaxing moment.
The shades of green of the deciduous trees contrasted clearly with the more intense green of the pines that cover this beautiful corner of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.
Hope you like it. Have a happy Wednesday!

This weeks Flickr Friday subject was completely in my ball park. #TheLivesofOthers was primed for street photography so what did I do? Go to a book store of course!
Have produced an old school post process with a very heavy vignette in Lightroom and I think the outcome is ok. On another note Charles Dickens had eight separate biographies on sale. Impressive.
My cats were completely mesmerized by this super big Brown Anole Lizard. He seemed to be totally unconcerned with them watching, and stayed in this spot for a very long time.
Anole Lizards are not native to Florida, but have become residents with time. The Green Anoles have been being overtaken by the more aggressive Browns. I hardly ever see green ones anymore now. If you look at my reptiles album, you will see the prettier Green Anole.
Hijacking on boats and planes from the Bahamas and Cuba, these little reptiles won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Like most reptiles, they adapt all too quickly and take hold.
This was a particularly large lizard. He was probably not moving out of the way because he'd just fed and was digesting in the last rays of the sun. I call him the Tormenter because he really does torment my kitties, both of which are born hunters and would make fast work of him if he ever got in or they ever got out!
This was worked over pretty well. Shot through my slider, which hasn't had a washing in a few weeks, it was not a clear shot. There was enough info there for me to bring up all the detail, though. This was taken on zoom, as I had to shoot through my cats' cat tree to photograph him!
Completely unfazed by having six long lenses pointed at it, this roadrunner was intent on finding a meal. Zanjero Park, Phoenix, AZ
The country store is completely rebuilt following a fire that destroyed this rural landmark. Great community effort with much support and a great result.
Though not completely frozen from this shore in Ontario to the Québec one across the way, I still treaded with caution as I was alone in this task to find a half-decent 365 post.
This is the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club Boathouse, where across the street there are some fabulous clay tennis courts, where I've aced a few in my day. The court really did a number on my sneakers and socks!
The Ottawa New Edinburgh Club Boathouse is a Recognized Federal Heritage Building due to its historical, architectural and environmental values.
Historical value:
The Ottawa New Edinburgh Club (ONEC) Boathouse illustrates late 19th century middle-class summer recreation, and the evolution of competitive and leisure canoeing in Canada and abroad. The Boathouse contributed to the popularity of canoeing in Canada between 1900 and 1950, and is associated with the ONEC, influential in the area for over a century. On Ottawa’s northeast boundary in 1914, Rockcliffe Park was one of several city parks leased to the Ottawa Improvement Commission (OIC) in 1904, a result of F. Todd’s 1903 recommendation for a park and driveway system to support Ottawa’s national capital status. An example of a private recreational organization on OIC land in Rockcliffe Park, the Boathouse was built during the OIC’s last major initiative in national capital planning and is one of few remaining buildings from this “beautification” phase of local development.
Completely unlike the fleur-de-lys, the lush dark red lily in the silver field of the coat of arms is a proud emblem of beautiful Florence. The presence of such a lily in the coat of arms explains the magnificent motto: «A flower in full bloom - so flourishes the blooming Florence.»
Anatole France used the image of the "red lily" as the title of his novel. "Red Lily" is a novel about love in the world of politicians and prudent businessmen.
The play based on this novel made a huge impression on the young Marcel Proust. The red lily, which gave the title of the novel, is not just a flower, but a symbol of Florence, where the love of the social beauty Countess Marten-Bellemm and the talented sculptor Jacques Deschartre blossomed.
Now something completely different...
The grocery store where we shop has a beautiful, raised atrium roof which lets a lot of natural light into the store, making the shopping experience more pleasant.
The other day I realized it would make for an interesting photograph, so I took a couple of minutes to take a few shots with my iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The blue sky and white clouds can be seen through glass windows on the periphery of the 14-segmented roof structure.
It is located in the center of the store and is probably 40 feet above one's head.
Enjoy!

The Horrors - Fire Escape
George and I both love Sadie and appreciate that she is a good girl but we don't completely understand her. Her energy level varies between not wanting to get off the couch to doing happy dances during an hour-long walk. She is pretty good with the cats. She loves smelling them (especially under their tails). Jimmy lets Sadie sniff to her heart's content - Mack and Ella aren't that comfortable with Sadie yet but they aren't afraid of her.
So this is our good Sadie Girl... one month and three days post her final heartworm treatment.

„Usually completely unnoticed, the drying leaves on the trees in the forest and meadow form bizarre sculptures - and testify to transience and renewal.
A motif that fascinates me completely every year, and runs like a common thread through my photographic work.
A motif that, however, only unfolds its full effect with appropriate photo editing, and is preferably shown by me in black and white.
A motif that impressively illustrates that digital photography - if you shoot in RAW format - is inextricably linked to digital RAW development or digital photo editing.“
