Large gray-brown honeyeater with a completely bare black head and a distinctive "horn" on the bill. Upperparts are gray and underparts are dull white. Completely bare head is unique among the friarbirds. Typically very loud; emits a variety of harsh, loud squawks. Inhabits a wide range of habitats in eastern Australia, including (especially) open forests and gardens and parks, where it is common. (eBird)
Can be very noisy, almost deafening when in large numbers; considered one of the noisiest birds in savanna of S New Guinea. (Birds of the World, Cornell Lab of Ornithology)
--------------
We saw these interesting birds a few times on the trip. They are very active and like to interact with each other. For a change, this one was resting for a bit, and I got to admire his ruff and the horn on his bill.

Summit of the Gurnigelpass (1600 meters above sea) on a clear night. The environment is completely lit by the fullmoon. It's a so called 'supermoon', when the distance the the earth is the shortest possible, which makes him (apparently) shine up to 30% brighter.

When you think of the Netherlands, it is easy to picture never-ending fields of brightly coloured flowers. Many of the country’s most famous artists have portrayed the flower fields of the Netherlands in their work, and these fields are just as spectacular when they are seen in real life. However, these flower fields are more than just aesthetically beautiful: they are also economically important to the country. A significant proportion of the country’s agricultural exports are derived from the sale of freshly cut flowers, bulbs and mature plants, and the Netherlands contributions to the flower industry are so significant that they make up around two-thirds of the world’s total flora sales and completely dominate the European marketplace. Thanks to highly efficient supply chains, it is actually possible to buy flowers in New York which were freshly cut in the Netherlands that morning!
Ramstad beach on the Lofoten islands on a glorious winter day. I could have stayed there for ever enjoying the peace and quiet :)
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today we celebrate a green day at Color my World Daily. And in Montreal we have another cold winter day. Once again my schedule is completely hectic this week and my picture was inspired by this situation… Sometimes I just want to take everyone and everything important to me, put it in a space shuttle and go to another galaxy far far away for a family vacation (Cuba ??) ! Just like Madame Giraffe here : she is making sure that everything she needs is nicely packed before she goes on vacation…
But for now: I just need my coffee and I will be good.
See you later my friends !! I wish you an amazing day !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !!

this beautiful female Leopard was found on a dry plateau in Panna Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, India.
With no other vehicles in the area we were able to make a slow approach and to get fairly close to her and to observe her for half an hour

Before I merged completely into autumn, I decided to share some more butterflies, flowers and summer photos, and since today is Thursday I decided to go back to old files that were left behind for whatever reason.
Since I took this photo, I've been trying to find out what its name was, and today after I did a very long and careful research I found it! This one is a White Peacock butterfly which was just emerging or eclosing from its chrysalis. The moment is really exiting not only for us the ones that observe them, but also for them as they take a look at the their new habitat. This was taken at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens while I visiting the city. The person in charge of the this section of the conservatory instructed us bout the rules of how to visit this section, how to keep and eye on the floor since some of them leave the chrysalis and unfold themselves on the ground. This one did and I was lucky to spot it, I'm glad I did!
If you like to know more about this wonderful insects, here is place to start:

Photography is my passion, and nature photography is my favorite.
I have been in Explore for more that a hundred times, and it is an awesome experience to have your photos showcased in such a special way.
I'm in many groups, and I only add my photos to them if they are not private.
I thank your for coming today, for leaving a comment, and make a favorite of yours this photo, (if that is the case) thanks again!
The best part of this forum is the contacts and friends that I have made over the years, that have the same passion for this art that is called photography!

Good morning dear Flickr friends!
With drone photography, I was able to fulfill a long-cherished personal dream. The desire to "think outside the box". By this I mean, from a higher perspective, to finally make visible what was hidden from the normal perspective when taking pictures. In the photo I am on the small island "Love Island". It is not in the photo, but is located somewhat southwest of this section of the image. In front of us is the "Mettnau" peninsula, on the right it goes to the top. The front visible part of the lake is the "Zellersee". Behind the peninsula is the "Gnadensee", which is called "Markelfinger Winkel" at the end. A very quiet part of the lake that I like to go with kayak beginners. This part of the lake freezes over completely in winter and is then released for ice skating. However, it was a few years ago that the lake was frozen over. It may have been 4 or 5 years ago. I even published photos of the icy lake. Taking pictures from a height of 100 meters is simply wonderful and, thanks to the professional drone technology, a brilliant thing. If you feel inspired: Please fly carefully and observe the local laws and regulations and, like me, practice flying for hours, days and weeks on the open field without any support. In vacation countries, you sometimes need expensive permits and papers to fly. Without this, for example, Thailand faces a 5-year prison sentence. You should take that seriously. But enough of "if" and "but".
Happy weekend ahead!

Gerenuks are built to stretch high when they are on their hind legs which is why their necks and legs are so long.
To take a photo of one standing completely upright can not be done successfully without having to see them from farther away.
The completely moated castle, which is therefore a Wasserburg, consists of the main building and an L-shaped outer bailey (Vorburg).
The name of the castle can be explained as loam brook, muddy brook; the castle is located in a naturally swampy area. The castle dates from the 13th century, but in 1170 there was already a keep on the site of the current castle.
Schloss Lembeck has been the residence of influential noblemen who, in the service of the Prince-Bishopric of Münster, performed ministerial administrative tasks in the region. In the 17th and 18th centuries they controlled the Heerlijkheid Lembeck. Until 1960, the castle was inhabited by members of noble families.

Old photograph realized completely in the open while I was lying on the beach of a small town located on the Teramano coast, Martinsicuro. That day I remember that on behalf of the SOA (Ornithological Society of Abruzzo) we were counting the nests, to try to sensitize the various municipalities to protect them. It was cold and it was very cloudy, but when I saw the scene of some young of Kentish Plover who were going to warm up under the wings of his mother did not resist the temptation to photograph them, trying to stay away and not to bother them too much.
So, finally Monday arrives (after a completely abysmal Saturday and Sunday in as far as Light is concerned) and so does the Light. I did a quick scout for the caterpillar (planned for next post), nowhere to be seen. Settling down on the bench that was used for the bee shot seemed like the thing to do. Contemplating if I should change up my gear to take advantage of the light. Nahh, too much effort. I noticed the Blue Jays in a frenzy over the peanuts. I was still disturbed over the fact that someone, you know who you are, had posted a shot of a Nuthatch in an upright feeding position. That is highly unusual. Up here, the Nuthatch has taken it upon himself to teach the Blue Jays how to do it his way. I had observed that behavior for a while and thus I came up with my purpose for this Monday. I talked the Nuthatch into getting his top student to perform this acrobatic feat so I could document this. I watched in wonder as the Blue Jay followed his sensei’s instructions. If other people can show Nuthatches right-side-up, I can certainly display a Blue Jay upside-down. So, here we are; no trickery using software nor the use of any super glue.
Enjoy what’s left of this weekend.
Benmore Gardens is a beautiful park near Dunoon in Argyll. There are miles and miles of paths to walk and plenty of features to see, such as this waterfall. Walking around is an exercise in relaxation as you take in the beauty of the place..
.
However visiting the Gardens in the dark is a completely different experience!
Something completely different than my birds and winter shots....
This was actually captured the same day as those duck images, and was one of my last captures as the sun went down.
I had fun with the Curves module on this one, giving it a fantasy aura.
Hotel Elephant
Historic luxury hotel with a history dating back to 1696. The current hotel was built in 1938.
This hotel, on the southern side of the market square, is the oldest accommodation mentioned in the history of Weimar. Opened in 1696, it served as an inn for merchants. Celebrities of the classical and post-classical period such as Grillparzer, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Liszt, Wagner and Rubinstein stayed in this traditional house. Thomas Mann described life in the hotel during the classical period in his novel "Lotte in Weimar" which was adapted for the screen in 1975 using original site. It was completely rebuilt in 1938 and became the favourite place to stay for Hitler. Re-opened after World War II, it now belongs to the best hotels in town.

I know that this effect is describing something completely different. But when I'm looking at these windflowers I'm having the impression, that the blossoms are transforming into butterflies while they are withering. Off course this is absolutely nonsense, but for me it's still a nice thought.

Off for my post op assessment, wish me luck!
Poop! Assessment is not good, need another MRi and no physio for a while, in fact I need to rest my shoulder completely, not good at all.
Rousham is completely unspoilt and uncommercialised – no tea room and no shop – just glorious gardens to explore. One of England’s most important gardens, Rousham represents the first phase of English landscape design and remains almost as its designer William Kent left it. Many of the features that delighted its 18th century visitors are still there for 21st century visitors to enjoy.
Rousham House in Oxfordshire has been continuously in the ownership of one family and was built circa 1635 and remodelled by William Kent in the 18th century in a free Gothic style. Further alterations were carried out in the 19th century.
Just the two of us on this beautiful glacier des Nantillons, right above Chamonix, with perfect conditions… Another fantastic day climbing & skiing.

I like the feel of your name on my lips
And I like the sound of your sweet gentle kiss
The way that your fingers run through my hair
And how your scent lingers even when you're not there
And I like the way your eyes dance when you laugh
And how you enjoy your two hour bath
And how you convinced me to dance in the rain
With everyone watching like we were insane
But I love the way you love me
Strong and wild, slow and easy
Heart and soul, so completely
I love the way you love me

The only completely red bird in North America, the strawberry-colored male Summer Tanager is an eye-catching sight against the green leaves of the forest canopy.
The mustard-yellow female is harder to spot, though both sexes have a very distinctive chuckling call note. Fairly common during the summer, these birds migrate as far as the middle of South America each winter.
So, has he completely lost it? No, not the driver, me. Well, who refers to oneself in the third person? That may be one indication of losing it. Actually, no to that as well. Now that I have proven to myself that I am capable of using HDR responsibly, I thought I may as well give into the temptation that devil software is throwing at me and apply this process in a manner that results in something completely different. I always wanted to do a minimalist color image without completely giving up on color because I am addicted to it. Quite like the effect “contrast optimizer” has on the bucket loader. That’s why I cropped top and bottom to feature the loader a bit more prominently. The reason the sides are uncropped is because I liked the effect on the fence to the right of the loader and on the faux brick wall to the left of the loader. And no, not to worry, you won’t see too many of these shots going forward. No sense in getting carried away. Less is usually more unless we are dealing with Marzipan which is powerful enough to make me .…

The Battle of Jutland raged for 36 hours from 31th May to 1th June 1916. In the battle – which is still the biggest naval battle of the world – from British and German side, a total of 152 warships and nearly 100 000 people were involved. Of these, 8645 sailors were killed.
This picture was taken around the stern of the HMS Defence, a Armoured Cruiser which was hit by shells from SMS Lützow and Derfflinger and sunk with all 893 hands.

Sometimes the best opportunities arise completely by chance. I photographed winter landscapes in panoramic format: a wide plain with a farmhouse, a black road in the glittering snow, a weeping birch with frost - so 3 photos - but there is room for 4 photos on the film. It is always the same situation: everything is shot - but the film is not full. I wandered around and looked for subjects. Nothing seemed to fit. I went back to the car, which I had parked on a forest path. That's exactly where I discovered the opportunity for my last picture... Of the four, it turned out to be the best, I think.
This pic made the award: "Grandmaster of Photography" of the groop "DSLR". I am happy and a little proud!

Tateyama is a large volcano. The name does not refer to a specific peak but to the group of peaks associated with the volcano.
Murodou (室堂) as well as Midagahara (弥陀ケ原) and Bijo-daira (美女平) to the west are a sequence of lava plateau.
Murodou (室堂) is located at an altitude of 2,450 m. There is a transfer station between Tateyama Tunnel Trollybus and the bus service to/from Bijo-daira (美女平) near Tateyama town proper. There is a network of trails marked by poles to explore the volcanic terrain in Murodou including hotsprings, ponds, religious buildings etc.
Tateyama is directly hit by the northwestern monsoon in winter. There is no weather station in Murodo as it is completely closed down from December to early April due to heavy snowfall. Unazuki weather station, not far from Murodou in the the Kurobe-gawa gorge, records an average annual precipitation of 3,587 mm. Murodou is supposed to have more precipitation. Wettest months are December and January.
This photo was taken at the end of April.
You can ski in Tateyama until June. There is no lift but instead you can take bus to climb back to Murodou.
