For Macro Mondays theme "Complementary Colours" natures own colour pallete - green and red.

I’m horrible with plants, but I’ve had these guys since early this year, and they are still hanging on. I thought I better share them with you before they die. :)

Once again I was exploring these rock pools on Bamburgh beach, and looking out to the Farne Islands. I really enjoyed the way this gap in the rocks drew my eye towards the distant islands, and how the small pools of water sat by the vast open sea.

It was exploring this which lead me to decide that I would come back for another shoot, specifically to photograph these islands in good light. I will be sharing these very soon.

Love and Peace !!

(two fridge magnets, gifts from my sister ♥ / each 3,5 cm in diameter)

... yes I know, probably the umpteenth 'love' today, but after the events of this week in my country this was the only word that came to my mind (and that I could photograph :))

Happy Smile on Saturday : )

Had a very busy week - trying to catch up ! :)

Crazy Tuesday theme Complementary Colours

Last minute photo - I forgot to check the theme until today having just returned back from seeing my poorly mum in Devon. Luckily I had popped into the House of Marbles (close to where mum is) to add to my collection of handmade marbles!

Happy Crazy Tuesady! 😄

Nearby to Bamburgh is the small seafront village of Beadnell. Early in the morning, the seaweed on around the rockpools was so bright and eye catching I spent all morning exploring the rock pools.

For Smile on Saturday's #Flora SOOC theme

With thanks to Maria and the SOS team for encouraging me to post a SOOC image.

Generally, my images have quite a lot of post-processing going on. There's always at least a little tweak that I want to make, to composition, colour, removing distractions etc. I also use editing to draw attention to my subject, as well as enjoying making creative edits (playing with colour or blur etc). I don't think I've ever posted SOOC before.

But I've had a few conversations recently that made me think - do I need to? I'm definitely better at thinking about the image while I'm taking it - looking at the image, deleting those that don't work, adjusting the WB or the composition etc. Plus sitting down to edit is difficult for me at the moment, so 'going' SOOC would definitely be better for me.

Looking at the 5 or 6 images from my archive that I wondered about posting for this theme, I could probably post them as SOOC. But... with most I still see those little tweaks that I would prefer to make that would turn them from decent, interesting images into something closer to the vision I have for them.

This one: I'd turn down the saturation, tone the green a little, and sharpen, as well as focusing the light a little. But I haven't touched it - I promise!

(Sorry, I'm going to shut up soon. But...there were some interesting discussions around what constitutes straight-out-of-camera these days. True - we can choose different picture 'styles' in our camera, choose our aperture or shutter speed settings, choose our WB or even sharpness etc, so we are making conscious choices about the image we take when we take the picture. I think the skill of SOOC is to make these choices with the camera, rather than in the software after the event. I would include cropping with this - you choose your composition & crop when you take the picture, though I appreciate it is so tempting just to tweak slightly. Interesting to ponder this as a subject ...

Also, I note the issue of RAW - I shoot in RAW, and as this was an archive shot, I had to convert it to .jpg in software. Potentially, you could say this is influencing the image. But I think even when a camera is shooting in .jpg, it is making certain adjustments that you just can't avoid, unless you could post the raw image. So I see the RAW conversion to .jpg by my Canon software as akin to the RAW conversion to .jpg by my Canon camera. But always happy to be corrected by those who know far more than me.)

A welsh poppy with a water butt as a background, haven’t had much time to go looking for MM options but this was pretty much outside the back door.

Thanks for stopping

For Flickr Friday's #purple theme

This is quite obviously (at least, I hope so!) purple! But I've always found it interesting that flowers described as 'blue' are quite often more purpley, as true blues are difficult to find in the floral world.

I don't like to use flowers for 'colour' themes as a rule. But these beautiful 'blue' asters are at their best in my garden at the moment, and they really were lending themselves to a bit of ICM play. Whilst I have been known to add radial blur in processing, this blur is all in camera; created

by trying to hold an off-centre focal point and rotating around it.

Taken with my flektogon, and the vintagey feel slightly enhanced in CEfex, though I did try to minimise impact on the colour. (I held an ND filter over the lens so that I could use a slower shutter speed; i have no idea if it's even possible to get filters for vintage lenses! This works remarkable well but does require a bit of concentration.)

Looking over to the Farne Islands from the rock pools, I spied this small clump of rocks. I like how they are framed, and based on perspective this fairly unimpressive mound of rocks dwarfs the beautiful sight of the Farne islands out to see.

This bowl is a bit wabi sabi with tiny chips around the rim. It came back from Ghana with Ray's two aunties who went there as missionaries.

It's not thought to be African, but rather Portuguese, traded by sailors for goods such as tobacco, sugar cane, coffee etc.

We like it as a fruit bowl. It gives me my subject for
