Certified Angus Beef (www.certifiedangusbeef.com) competition at Culinary Institute of Virginia (www.chefva.com) on Friday, 28 August, 2009. Students competed for scholarship funds based on several factors, including creative and effective use of beef in a prepared appetizer and entree. I was a judge at the competition.

Tuesday saw Lewis play their first match in the House chess competition, and Elgar played their second match. Mohamed (Lewis) played Zeyad (Elgar) on the top table and they certainly drew the biggest crowd. Mohamed’s tactics seemed to be to get an early advantage on the lock, but he made a few blunders early on and lost his queen in the process. Despite this he had a huge time advantage. However, Zeyad proved to be a mastermind and checkmated with minutes left on his clock. Aly (Elgar) also stepped up as House Captain for his first game, but his Lewis opponent did not show. This means he received an automatic win. Further down the tables Youssef (Elgar) proved himself by beating Mohamed (Lewis), giving Elgar a 3-0 lead as the final game was being played. In this game, Mohamed’s cousin Tamer was able to achieve a consolation for Lewis against Youssef (Elgar). The game was very tense as the clock ran down and Youssef’s time ran out, despite having an advantage in pieces on the board. This meant the final game went to Lewis and the overall score was 3-1. Next week, Lewis will play Foster who must win to give them any chance of staying in the competition.
I'm not sure how this happened, but somehow my roommate entered a competition with McCormick spices and won $1000 worth of stuff to throw a party as a competition against 14 other people for tickets to NY. I was enlisted to shoot the photos and these are a few of the photographs captured over the course of the evening.
IU Kokomo hosted a F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Tech Challenge Qualifying Tournament, a state-wide robotics competition for high school robotics teams.. Teams from around Northern Indiana competed and some placed for the state competition in Indianapolis

I have entered the competition to try and win a tree house for my grandsons.
As you will see the garden has been an on going project to make it a safe playground.
My mum paid for the trees to be removed, myself and my husband paid and laid the play bark.
My daughters mother and father in law paid and erected new fencing (not shown on the photos).
They are nearly 7 and 5 and would love something new to play on, as their garden toys are all
now too young for them , I have been looking to buy them a tree house or climbing frame but they are too
expensive.

This year’s Day is the third to be celebrated. The General Assembly declared the Day to commemorate the 1997 adoption by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) of the Universal Declaration on Democracy.
The occasion was marked in the fledgling nation of Timor-Leste with a speech contest for high school students.
More than 145 students from all 13 districts of the South-East Asian nation took part in this year’s competition, whose theme was “As a citizen of Timor-Leste, what does democracy mean to you?”
The final round of the contest – opened by Mr. Ban’s Special Representative Ameerah Haq and Timorese Education Minister João Câncio Freitas – kicked off today in the capital, Dili.
The celebration of the International Day of Democracy “symbolizes Timor’s achievements from post-conflict to democratic nation building,” Ms. Haq said. “Democracy is as much a process as a goal, and only with the full participation of and support by the national governing bodies, civil society, international community, and individuals, can the ideal of democracy be made into a reality to be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere.” Dili 15 September 2010. My friend Dwayne owns a shop selling skates as well as teaching skating classes. To promote his various interests he held a power-sliding competition in Weinan, Shaanxi, China.
I took along a couple of YN460 strobes, my 5D Mark II , 24-105mm F4 and my 135L.
It was very crowded which made getting good shots tough, especially with the longer 135L.
