Inge was showing us around, and pointed out the 'Giant Compass Fountain'. I had no idea what she was talking about until I noticed that the fountain had compass points engraved along the sides.

In answer to the questions below, the compass plant is a very interesting prairie plant. It's lower leaves almost always line up with north and south. Long ago it helped travelers find their way across the prairie. Common in black soil prairies. Their roots can go down 12 feet and their leaves stay surprisingly cool even on a very hot day.
