Compass Late was a platform on which artists based in Yorkshire and the Humber working in live art and performance, showed work in progress and presented an array of new ideas. The evening was split between short extracts of new performance work from six selected artists/companies, and time left open for a drink, a ‘hello’ and a chance to meet with colleagues and friends new and old.

This compass jellyfish with its distinctive radial markings was one of many stranded on Gronant beach. There were even more in the water - not good news for swimmers as this jellyfish can deliver a painful sting.

This compass has been lying around on my table for a while. Decided to clean it and have a go at it.
Well eight compasses....but none pointing the same way due to spinning magnet.
I did run out of hands to spin the magnet and focus the camera.
The exhibit is well used, but that adds, in my opinion, to its charm.

Monday and back to school again. This is Form 1C doing geometry in mathematics. We are learning how to construct angles using a compass. There are not enough compasses and protractors in the class so the students have to borrow from other students before class, and even then they have to share between themselves, 3 to 5 students per compass. There is gone be a test on this subject soon, and I am worried about how many compasses we can collect for the test.
The test they had last week required a calculator and it was pretty chaotic when the students started sharing calculators during the test. I was told that they were used to that, and that they even did it on the national exams. I am pretty sure that they can’t finish a geometry test in time if they have to share the compasses, so I have to figure out a good solution before that.
