Had the day off today (because after going out of town over the weekend, I like to have a day off) and went downtown with Amy and Willow. We were hoping to check out the holiday carousel, but sadly, they were still putting it together. Instead, we checked out the Mission and History Museum, so it was still a day of fun adventures!
At the History Museum, there was an exhibit about fishing and so I got this shot of an old compasss.

Year 2, Day 340
[Total Consecutive Days: 705]
A compass rose on the pavement of a group of stairs close to the Landmark Tower.
Shows the direction for many of the world's most important cities. All insanely distant though.
Compass - Measuring instrument - A pair of compasses, also known simply as a compass, is a technical drawing instrument that can be used for inscribing circles or arcs. As dividers, they can also be used as tools to measure distances, in particular on maps.
Bow Dividers - Measuring the distance between two points on a chart is made easier with these dividers. The bow dividers allow you to measure distance in nautical miles when used in conjunction with the latitude scale of your nautical map.
Place one point of the dividers at point A and the other point of the dividers at point B. Keeping the same spread measure the distance on the latitude scale. If it’s 20 minutes of latitude, then the distance is 20 nautical miles, i.e. one minute is one nautical mile. Remember to only ever measure by latitude because longitude is different depending how far north or south you are.
For measuring distances that are longer than your dividers, set the dividers to a whole number then rotate the dividers end to end and then add up the number of rotations.
Bow dividers can be opened and closed with one hand while completing your chart work.
I have kept all my instrument of measure from my nautical days.
