I don't work, so I don't have a daily commute. I did have to go out of town yesterday to Charlotte. This is my return trip back to my beloved mountains. It was a hazy day, but if you look hard you can see the mountains in the background.
i love my commute on a day like this. this vantage point of downtown is great with the rice hotel in the foreground and texaco heritage plaza in the right background.
I had to make couple of commutes on trains recently. Long journeys, and between reading more of my book (For Esme with Love and Squalor by J D Salinger, if you're interested), I thought I'd record what I saw. I'd have been very reluctant to do this with an SLR, but the little mobile was well up to the task. "Retro Camera" was the App of choice in this case!
With me wearing my headlamp and Kiyomi wearing her reflective collar with LEDs flashing, we took a long walk from our house to the park, ran offleash for a while, and walked back.

Today classes started at the University of New Hampshire and Mel began his regular commute from Beverly, so I am posted this image in his honor. I took this photograph with my phonecam on one of our recent trips up there, and tonight I cropped the image to improve the composition. The commute to UNH takes you over several long bridges across some beautiful lakes that take your breath away. It's hard to get a good view from a moving car, but I keep trying: I open the window, I hold the cellphone outside the car as we are moving, I drive Mel crazy. I guess sometimes it's hard to have an artist in the passenger seat. . .

I've been known to complain about my local subway system. But with gasoline prices headed sky high, and congestion on roads around the nation's capital considered among the worst in the nation, I keep riding.
Despite the delays, dicey air conditioning, and system breakdowns, more than 1.2 million people are using the system each day.
As a friend who works for the system told me last week, "if you don't like us, drive!"
Had to leave my bike at the office as my wife picked me up to grab dinner and didn't bring the bike rack. Commute only takes about 10 minutes longer on this beast, but I'll be able to tow the other bike home & pick up some bricks.

I pass this place on my commute. It used to be called Joe's Junk and had lots of "antiques" scattered about along with these amazing bird houses. It's been cleaned up a bit over the last couple of years and the bird houses are the star attraction.
