It snowed and made my four-hour round trip daily commute interesting. I'd finished most of the projects I'd been working on and did not feel like doing anything thinky (oh freehand reversible blackwork, you hurt my brain) so I practised lettering and tried to use up floss bits. Also, I've been pondering on the raddness of this project and felt all homage-y.

It's about a word a day, in between reading (Little Lord Faunterloy and White Noise) and staring blankly.

I am not going to use my light turquoise, light sage, or light orange floss on this kind of aida again. Cannot see it, looks dumb.

Some Monday mornings I pass by Dunnigan, CA. This time of year they're always rocking the hot air balloons.

I am really lucky that I have the option to use the Milwaukee River trail as part of my commute. I am also lucky that there are other cycling and running enthusiasts in my office. So, I'm not the only weirdo that steps out of the restroom in Polartec PowerStretch tights and a soft shell jacket like some kind if nerdy superhero.

The moment my Met train went from line speed to emergency brakes just outside of Kilburn – over the railway bridge after some moron decided to pull one of the passenger emergency alarms. The only thing close to an emergency at that point was trying to get my heart out of my throat after being thrown out of my seat by the force of the train coming to a stop.

The daily commute.

The cloverleaf highway intersection nearing the end of my morning commute. It's a shitty place for bikes to cross, but not many other options exist to get to the van pool.

Notice poorly thought out bike lane on sidewalk, which I don't use unless I plan on traveling under 7mph.

Took a picture only to catch a nice sunrise, which this picture didn't at all encapsulate.

I'm liking the filters in the Retro Camera app at the moment. This was taken in The Light, Leeds. The guys at the top of the escalator are 'security'.

They don't like cameras.

Can you tell by this shot and its post-processing how I feel about commuting? ;-)

Interesting what you can find in a morning commute sitting shotgun. A PJ TRAILER and a truck pulling it.

Red House is a significant Arts and Crafts building located in the town of Bexleyheath in Southeast London, England. Co-designed in 1859 by the architect Philip Webb and the designer William Morris, it was created to serve as a family home for the latter, with construction being completed in 1860.

Following an education at the University of Oxford, Morris decided to construct a rural house for him and his new wife, Jane Morris, within a commuting distance of central London. Purchasing a plot of land in what at the time was the village of Upton in Kent, he employed his friend Webb to help him design and construct the house, financing the project with money inherited from his wealthy family. Morris was deeply influenced by Medievalism and Medieval-inspired Neo-Gothic styles are reflected throughout the building's design. It was constructed using Morris' ethos of craftsmanship and artisan skills and is an early example of what came to be known as the Arts and Crafts movement.

A number of Morris' friends visited, most notably the Pre-Raphaelite painters Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, both of whom aided him in decorating the House; various Burne-Jones wall murals remain. While at Red House, Morris was involved in the formation of his design company, Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co., and embarked on his earliest wallpaper designs. It was also here that his two daughters, Jenny and May, were born. Although initially intending to live there for the rest of his life, Morris found that it proved too expensive to run and did not suit his lifestyle, moving out and selling the property after five years.

Red House remained a private residence for various individuals from 1866 to 2002, during which various alterations were made to the interior design. In 1950 it was designated a Grade I listed building by English Heritage. From 1952 to 1999 the architect Edward Hollamby lived at the House, initiating attempts at preservation and establishing the Friends of Red House charity in 1998. The House was purchased for The National Trust in 2003, who have since undertaken a project of conservation and maintain it as a visitor's attraction with accompanying tea room and gift shop.

I had to make couple of commutes on trains recently. Long journeys, and between reading more of my book (For Esme with Love and Squalor by J D Salinger, if you're interested), I thought I'd record what I saw. I'd have been very reluctant to do this with an SLR, but the little mobile was well up to the task. "Retro Camera" was the App of choice in this case!

This one is probably my best effort from the series. Commuting's such a blast isn't it?

8:14 am: Ready to step out of the door. Like so many New Yorkers, I rely on my iPod to keep me entertained while I'm on the go. In the morning, subways are often too crowded for reading, and without any entertainment the commute is just too boring.

A day in the life: commuting to work on a summer day in 1998. Day's end, heading home.

I commute by bike on a greenway near a powerline. I would have never seen this patch of blackberries in the truck, that's for sure. One more benefit of riding a bike to work!

i didn't really do anything exciting on 11/11/11. saw the remembrance service at Toronto city hall, ate a bacon sandwich at St Lawrence Markets, and went to work.

Decided it's time to dust off the bike(s) and get back into riding this summer. Figured I'd start by switching my ~6 mile commute to BART from car to bike. Thanks to a nearby bike trail cutting out around a dozen traffic lights, it only takes 5 mins longer than driving.. Add a little fitness and the time would probably be competitive.

The only other problem was securing my bike. Seeing a bunch of destroyed u-locks and cut cables near the bike racks had made me wary.. After calling and getting wait listed by BART for a bike locker, I noticed there are actually 2 kinds of lockers, these are the shared use bikelink smart card operated bike lockers (which BART neglects to mention exist when you call asking about a locker?!).

Picked up a card from Embarcadero station, and did a test run today, to time it and ensure my flat bar hybrid bike fits in the locker. Seems like a decent lock for 3c/hour. :) In theory i can leave my saddle bag, lights and helmet safely inside too.. We'll see if i live to regret that assumption..

A few hasty phone snaps whil eon my new longer commute into work. Out of Sholing, down to Netley, and back along Weston Shore. 8 to 9 miles. Weather this week has been mixed!
