I've taken this picture on my daily commute on the A4 (see the map for the exact location). I had already seen other 5 or 6 equally spectacular sunrises in the days before I took this one and I was getting really annoyed because there's nothing worse than waking up early on Sunday or Saturday and come back with an empty card and then see every other (working) day a scenery like this one. So that morning I decided not to be caught unprepared and took all my gear with me. I drove slowly until I could find a suitable spot on an emergency parking area and then waited. The result you're seeing it above. Hope you like it.
Commute 2 (2.11.11)
For some reason I woke up early and made a split second decision to pack up my bag, hop on the bike, and bike all the way in to work via the flat, 42-mile route. My Friday commute pledge is currently in jeopardy due to a changed meeting schedule. But I figured I'll try to work with it by leaving earlier. For some reason, on today's ride, I had forgotten what little I had ever learned about long-distance commuting. I overdressed. The knee warmers that had me aching last commute somehow found their way back onto my knees for this commute. The tail light I was pretty sure was dying on the prior evening's commute home, did in fact die, just as expected, about 2 miles out of the city. (I was carrying back-up batteries.) I was dehydrated and under-caloried as I woke up way before my appetite. Along the busy thoroughfare by the airport, I dropped my water bottle--for the first time in my entire life. It was a slog. I pulled over, removed one whole layer of clothing. Chugged some water. Cleared my head. Ditched the negative attitude. Things got better after that, particularly once a glorious sunrise started breaking. At that moment, too, another rider passed me. I worked hard to catch up to him by a popular break spot. There, we chatted a bit, discovered we were headed to the same general destination, and decided we'd enjoy each other's company for the second half of the commute. Working together, our pace picked up, as did our spirits. Thanks, Paul, and nice to meet you!
St Albans to the City of London is reputed to be Britain's "most expensive commute".
Rather than take the train, I decided to travel overland and see what I could see...
fabulous new commuting option was launched this week in chicago. such a fun way to travel on a warm, summery day! currently, it operates between chinatown and goose island, but if it catches on wendella hopes to expand to more routes.

I have two bikes I ride to work: the summer bike (road bike) and the rain bike (cylcocross). As indicated by name, weather determines the choice.
An advantage of riding the rain bike is that I can cut through the trails in Stanley Park and for about 10 minutes my commute through downtown Vancouver looks like this.
Unfortunately this is my last morning commute pic for the year, it's too dark in the mornings now and getting darker fast.
Trying out a new timelapse method. Actually, it isn't really timelapse at all. I take normal speed video from my Contour POV camera and then speed it upthrough several itterations in Sony Vegas. It ends up looking quite good I think.
