As a commuter who observes passing trains at my departing and arriving stations, I’ve found it interesting to peer through the windows and observe people and their body language during their own commute. People seem to let down their guard behind glass, whether it’s in a car, train, or restaurant, and act more naturally without regard to the person with the camera aimed their way.
Shooting various trains, I quickly discovered that NJ Transit’s new double deck cars offer four windows in a compact area, which allowed for more individual vignettes. These vignettes can be very interesting in themselves, but when multiplied by 4 scenes, they created a more telling story of the commuter experience.
I photographed from the opposite platform and shot after dark as it allowed a good view into the car interior. I shot many images over a 6-week span and selected this one to send to the CRPA Awards competition, as I liked the various poses as well as the young women starring back at me….a rare engagement with my subject commuter.

Travelers come and go in all directions at Toronto's Union Station as the work day comes to an end.
This was my daily 50 mile commute home today.....fun. Gotta love Michigan, this will put us over 100 inches of snow so far

For about a year, Fragonset Railways supplied the stock and motive power for an early morning and evening return commuter service from St Annes to Greenbank via Manchester. Here 31459 "Cerberus" (leading) and 31602 "Chimaera" (trailing) pass Ashley with 2D44 06:40 St Annes to Greenbank on the 30th March 2004. The service continued to run until June 2004, after which it became a Blackpool to Manchester Victoria working.

The first part of my commute to work. A 15 to 20 min roll down the hill to town.

St Albans to the City of London is reputed to be Britain's "most expensive commute".
Rather than take the train, I decided to travel overland and see what I could see...
I like getting work in Oxford. The cycle ride though the City is the best commute I have. This photograph is made after crossing Magdelene bridge with the tower of Magdelene College on the rght.
