4:30 am. In two years I'll quit my job and won't be on this train every day. Without money, my plan is to make a spear and hunt geese and deer in the forest near Princeton. I'll live in a cave and sleep on the ground. Instead of photography, I'll make paintings on the walls of the cave. I think I'll paint geese and deer. Must learn how to make fire without matches.

More from my NY series. I've always been fascinated with subways and never hesitate to pull out the camera for a few candid snaps. As is normally the case this girl was glued to her phone and didn't notice me.

Panniers hit my heel on this minivelo, but the Carradice BagMan + a good saddlebag solves that issue. (Yeah, I have to lock the seat to the bike -- it is San Francisco)
This week 48 of my commute has been agited and marked by the second biggest politic event (or first depending where you are at) of 2016 : American President Trump. On the , Britain started to protest and millions signed a petition to forbid this man to enter in the U.K. After the brexit I found this quite ironic and a bit scary...
Osaka is the third largest city in Japan, about 2.5 hours by bullet train from Tokyo. Although it's not high on the tourist circuit for international visitors with a limited timeframe, it is famous for its food, and this area called Dotonburi is full of good quality restaurants and bars.
The canal dates back to 1615, when the local "Doton" family built it to connect two rivers, to improve trade flows in the local area. "Buri" means canal. Within a decade it began to attract theatres and entertainment within the region, which was quite prosperous. This continues to today, as the local district is easily accessible within an hour commute by multiple train lines from large cities like Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe.
From evening to the early morning hours, Dontonburi is party central. In the early morning after sunrise, it takes on an almost surreal atmosphere - revellers have made their way home on the first commuter trains that whisk them back to the suburbs from around 5am. As I woke up early after a long flight Australia, it was a great opportunity to capture a busy part of the city with very few people. I was amazed by the mirror like reflections of the canal as the sun gently rose over the city - the silence was amazing after experiencing the chaos of late night partying.
Australia Mill's (303) Baldwin 2-6-0 No.1593 (believed to be works No.42299 built in 1915) has just brought an early morning load in from the cane fields and moves onto depot for water as a personnel carrier sets off for a loading point with the relieving shift on their daily commute, 17th April 1998.
