Southern's annual MLK Service Day sees students, faculty, and staff serve in a wide variety of capacities assisting projects all over the Chattanooga area.

DA NANG, Vietnam (April 22, 2013) Ens. Ray Evans plays paper, rock, scissors with children of Promise House; part of the Street Children’s Program of Da Nang. Evans with other Sailors of the guided-missile destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) attended the monthly birthday party for children of the Promise House as a community service event coordinated by Orphan Voice. Chung-Hoon and USNS Salvor (T ARS 52) are in Da Nang, Vietnam for Naval Exchange Activity (NEA). The NEA provides opportunities for U.S. and Vietnamese naval professionals to share best practices and exchange maritime skills. Maritime skill exchanges between the two navies are non-combatant events, such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, medical training, fire fighting and damage control, search and rescue, diving and salvage, sports and community service projects. The Orient Express and the USS Pinckney are participating in exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2014. We were proud to help out with a benefit for the Alzheimer's Association in Charlotte.

College of DuPage students, faculty and staff enjoyed a free gourmet treat from Cupcakes for Courage, a unique local bakery owned by a COD alumna who shares in the mission of COD Cares of giving back to the community by donating proceeds to cancer research. They also helped with several service projects and provided donations for area organizations. COD Action Heroes help with group service activities throughout District 502.
