BLMERS #GIVINGBACK: BLM California Employees Share a Lifesaving Gift This Holiday Season

120 and counting! On Dec. 10, the BLM California State Office hosted its 120th blood drive. BLM California has been part of the Federal Employees of Cottage Way Donor Club for BloodSource blood drives since June 1989. To date, the club has collected over 5,200 pints of blood from over 700 consistent donors, according to Blood Source’s records.

Mary Moen, Surveying Technician for the BLM California State Office, has spearheaded the planning and coordination of these federal employee blood drives since 1990, when she first started her career with BLM California. She noted that without the loyal participation of her colleagues, the impact and success of these interagency blood drives wouldn’t be possible.

"Volunteering to help people in your community feels good, but actually giving your own blood to save another’s life feels very good," Moen said.

Blood Source is an organization that services hospitals in 25 Northern California counties. For the past 25 years, it has directly benefited from the partner agencies who participate in these volunteer blood drives, to include the BLM, the Bureau of Reclamation, Office of Inspector General, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs.
