At merely the age of 11, Ravichandran’s childhood was forfeited to match production industry. He works there tirelessly, at the cost of his childhood, health and education.
Ravichandran’s parents abandoned him at this little age, leaving him 3 siblings to look after. Thankfully, he was fortunate enough that his uncle took all 4 of them under his care.
Nevertheless, the reality is that the foster caregiver was also so impoverished that he could not afford to send the children to school. He wanted them to earn so as to help him tide over difficult financial situation. Ravichandran and his siblings were forced to drop out from school.
As a result of installation of reverse osmosis (RO) equipment by World Vision, 3269 children in 12 schools were provided with safe drinking water. 68 integrated child development scheme (ICDS) centers were provided with weighing machines by World Vision for better growth monitoring of children.
Through the installation of napkin vending machine, there is an improvement in
personal hygienic practices among
the adolescent girls and women. People
in two Panchayats have been protected from mosquitoes as a result of mosquito
fogging machines.
Surya stands tall at 5’ 8”. She is a confident young girl from a district in Tamil Nadu, who works in a hospital and brings home regular income to support her family.
When she was a child, her family lived in poverty. Her parents were daily wage labourers who eked out a meager living for the family’s sustenance. When she was in the 3rd standard, a sponsor intervened in her life and helped her have better access to education and healthcare.
World Vision India also provided her family with a cow to increase their livelihood. Her mother Alagamal became a member of World Vision India’s Self Help Group (SHG), Udayam, which works in her community. The SHG provided a loan for Alagamal as economic assistance. This reduced the financial burden on the family and enabled her parents to provide better for Surya and her siblings
