H. imshaugii with community on street tree,
Unlike the preceeding Xylaria, as with most lichens the entire organism is visible. The branching structure is the thallus or body. One sees a white upper surface, below which is a layer of relatively loose hyphae which includes the green algal photobiont, then a hollow chamber, then another layer of loose hyphae, and finally a black lower surface. The Hypogymnia on the upper right (a different species) has brown apothecia which produce spores sexually. Both have black (speckles) pycnidia which produce spores asexually.
Taylor Saleem Jewelry and I spent the weekend collaborating. Part of an effort we feel very strongly about. We live in a world where you can either let your differences divide you or you can choose to open yourself up to new ideas. To dig deeper, despite the discomfort, despite the vulnerability. When you open your eyes to a new perspective, you can see where growth is possible and often the most beautiful.
Formerly known as the Chesley Centennial Park this greenspace is over 2 acres in size, the largest park in the community. The park is protected forever from urban development as part of the condition of bequeathing it to the town. The park includes a river (where many of us learned to swim), skateboard park, 4 ball diamonds, playground, splash pad, picnic areas, modern swimming pool and tobagganing hill.
There are many community notice boards around Japan containing information about local events.
The posters are often colourful and have helpful drawings to make them more attractive and likely to be read by the local passers-by.
Left Poster
The one on the left is a poster advertising for National Insurance Free Health Examinations. The info states the date, time, place, who is eligible, etc.
Right Poster
The one on the right is encouraging people to use reusable shopping bags when grocery shopping.
Both posters are from Shibuya ward.

I live in a neighborhood where people grow food and treat each other like family.
And that is one of the greatest things ever.
My wife's family hunting camp when she was young. It's for an entire family that go there at hunting season and Thanksgivings. The camp is actually pretty neat and is great for family bonding time.

The Taveta weaver (Ploceus castaneiceps) is a striking bird species native to East Africa, particularly found in areas of southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. It is known for its vibrant chestnut-colored head and yellow body, with males displaying more vivid plumage during the breeding season to attract mates. This social species is often seen in large flocks, building intricate, hanging nests in trees, and primarily feeds on seeds and insects, typically in grasslands and savanna habitats.

Once again, Hummingbird spread its wings to the surrounding communities.
A recent development of the Hummingbird Project started last year during school holidays, Beija-Flor na Comunidade or Hummingbird in the Community, literally means that we take most of the activities from our Hummingbird Arts and Cultural Activity Centre to the children and young people in surrounding communities instead of them coming to us.
The programme is an important step towards implanting smaller nuclei in underprivileged communities, from where the populations have limited access to our regular Activity Centre, either due to distance, safety or lack of transport. Another important reason for the project is to facilitate the reproduction of our prevention methodology by youth community mobilisers and mentors trained at Hummingbird; Everyone a Changemaker.
See the slideshow from last year's programme.
