Filipino communities in the Tanon Strait, Camotes, Antique and

Bicol regions are managing networks of marine reserves, as well as access to certain areas to protect and restore habitats and fish populations. As a result, they are more resilient to the effects of overfishing, rising sea levels and extreme weather events, and enjoy better catches too.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, these communities became ‘key workers.’ Their steady supply of fish was critical to local food and economic security, which was threatened by the breakdown of supply chains during the quarantine. The availability of fish also contributed to improve livelihoods and social cohesion

The work of these communities is part of Rare’s Fish Forever program, which is running in eight countries and is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Vibrant Oceans Initiative.

A depiction of synchronised swimming in the Aquatic Centre, by Bricks For Brains.

Formerly known as the Chesley Centennial Park this greenspace is over 2 acres in size, the largest park in the community. The park is protected forever from urban development as part of the condition of bequeathing it to the town. The park includes a river (where many of us learned to swim), skateboard park, 4 ball diamonds, playground, splash pad, picnic areas, modern swimming pool and tobagganing hill.

That is the name (styled thus) of a new public art sculpture recently unveiled at the Waterfront Park in Safety Harbor FL. It comprises over 200 multi-coloured hands that come together to form one globe, the work of Venetian artist Deborah Marucci. CommUNITY is intended to provide a multicultural symbol of unity and diversity.
