Solidarités had created a committee from the displaced to check that they were giving to the right people. The committee is made up of two men and one woman from each of the five affected villages. The members of the committee checked the applicants’ documentation and registered them. The men seemed to take the lead and the women were more in administrative roles.

Judging from the clothes of the committee and that literacy was needed for the work it seems likely that the poorer members of the community were not in the committee. That the registration was taking place in the morning may prevent the more vulnerable from working in the fields. Solidarités’ creation of a displaced committee is essential and well done, but I suspect we need to do more to include the most vulnerable in the decision making process.
