Jennifer Keesmaat is committed to creating places where people flourish. The MFA in Applied Craft and Design welcomes Steve Badanes as part of the 2014-2015 Graduate Visiting Artist Lecture Series.
Steve Badanes is a co-founder of Jersey Devil, a group of architects, artists, and inventors, committed to the interdependence of design and construction. Jersey Devil builds all their own work, which shows concern for craft and detail, innovative use of materials, and a strong environmental consciousness.
The work has been the subject of two monographs: the Jersey Devil Design/Build Book and Devil’s Workshop–25 Years of Jersey Devil Architecture. Badanes has lectured on design/build at over 100 universities & a dozen countries. At University of Washington, Badanes holds the Howard S. Wright Endowed Chair and directs the Neighborhood Design/Build Studio, which builds small public projects for Seattle area non-profits. He has led design/build studios throughout the US and in Canada, Cuba, Finland, Ghana, India, and Mexico.
Badanes has been awarded the Solar Pioneer Award from the American Solar Energy Society, Education Awards from the AIA, and a Weird Home Award from the National Enquirer.

Curtis is very committed to volunteering his time to help others. Recently, he reconnected with a friend on Facebook. The Council is increasing enforcement actions against fly-tipping via:
new street enforcement team working with neighbourhood enforcement, continuing work on targeting hot streets; and
new surveillance equipment deployed at known hot spots to Household waste that was not sent for recycling, reuse or composting grew more quickly than waste sent for recycling. Actions taken include promoting home composting with Master Composters; 5,000 interactive waste education books given out to children in year 5; and moving onto alternate week waste (green bin) collections in September.

In 2015, the Council secured an extra £5.5m of Department for Transport funding towards the structural refurbishment of the Swanswell viaduct between ring road junctions 2-4. Following preparatory work, the main construction work is now due to commence in May 2017 and be completed by March 2018.
The Council demonstrated that it has an effective and efficient approach to highways asset management, and successfully attracted the maximum funding allocation from the Department for Transport’s incentive fund.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is a fully committed partner in Los Angeles River revitalization efforts, including the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan. We are participating in several multi-purpose studies and demonstration projects within the watershed--starting at the confluence of Bell and Arroyo Calabasas Creeks in the San Fernando Valley and moving downstream to the heart of Los Angeles. We are helping create open space, wildlife habitat and an interconnected trail system.
One correction for the record. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has always considered the Los Angeles River to be a jurisdictional waterway, fully protected by the Clean Water Act. That status was not affected by the Supreme Court’s Rapanos decision. We fully support EPA’s recent decision categorizing the entire River as a "Traditional Navigable Water." EPA had authority to make a comprehensive evaluation of the watershed, while the Corps reviewed a four mile segment relevant to a specific permit application. During the two years between EPA’s decision to evaluate the navigable waterway status of the L.A. River and its ruling, 96% of the Corps’ determinations in the watershed found the section under review had full CWA protection!

When the 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, it took more than 200,000 lives and displaced more than 2 million Haitians. Following the earthquake, the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) turned to foreign governments and aid organizations for assistance, including CDC. CDC committed to help rebuild and strengthen Haiti's infrastructure and established a special office to work with MSPP.

The Women's Dinner Party a benefit for Fenway Health.
Fenway Health presented Elyse Cherry, CEO of Boston Community Capital (BCC), with the Dr. Susan M. Love Award. Boston Community Capital has a mission of building healthy communities through socially responsible investment. Personally committed to economic justice and equality, and to health equality for women and families throughout Boston and the Commonwealth, she has served as CEO for 16 years, during which time Boston Community Capital has invested in child care facilities serving nearly 10,000 children and health care facilities providing care to over 66,000 patients.
This Crane was a late arrival at this pond that many other birds had selected for their nighttime roost. It's almost too dark for decent photography. This bird has committed to the drop down to the water in a steep descent... more a free fall drop than a glide in. This shot against a cloudy western sky results in mainly a silhouette view of the crane against the distant mountains and clouds... but if you're familiar with these birds such shots offer no difficulty regarding their ID.
