Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.

Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.

This song was made to celebrate the power of speaking out in order to promote a more just world.
"Use My Voice"
Cover my ears and close my eyes
Just long enough to stop the noise
Go on take everything and throw it away
But I will use my voice
Drown every truth in an ocean of lies
Label me bitch because I dare to draw my own line
Burn every bridge and build a wall in my way
But I will use my voice
Whether you like it or not, you're gonna take what I got
If we can't talk about it, we'll just keep drowning in it
Give me credit or not, I give a lot, give a lot
But don't you speak for me
No, don't you speak for me
Never mind me, I'm a waste of your time
I'm never gonna fit in the box that you need and I can read between the lines, yeah
Gather your friends and wave your gun in my face
But I will use my voice
Whether you like it or not, you're gonna take what I got
If we can't talk about it, we'll just keep drowning in it
Give me credit or not, I give a lot, give a lot
But don't you speak for me
No, don't you speak for me
Whether you like it or not
Whether you like it or not
Whether you like it or not
Whether you like it or not
One day soon
It's gonna fall back on you
No more lies
We're gonna break right through
Like it or not
If we can't talk about it, we'll just keep drowning in it
Give me credit or not, I give a lot, give a lot
But don't you speak for me
No, don't you speak for me
Don't you speak for me

I committed this photocompositing hijack of the great Hokusai's masterpiece "The Wave" in order ro complete my series 36 views of Mont Saint Michel...
For more than a century, beginning in 1855, the North Point Lighthouse stood tall, overlooking the water and beaming out its light to protect and guide ships and watercraft. Keepers and their families lived and worked at the North Point Light Station, ensuring that the bright light was broadcast through fair weather and foul. It symbolizes a time in our history when waterways were the highways between cities. Lighthouses facilitated water travel and commerce on Lake Michigan, throughout the Great Lakes and beyond.
It has recently been restored to its early 20th century charm through the determined efforts of a group of committed volunteers.

I have wanted to do something different for a while, then one gets lost in what can only be described as "Photographers Block", akin to "Writers Block" same thing yet different tool of creativity. I even deleted a photo I put up yesterday as I hated it, simply because experimental change is sometimes difficult, in the enigmatic paradigm of remaining as was, yet contradicted by the yearn for change, albeit lost for choice yet unable to see the forest for the trees! If you catch my convoluted drift?!
I think the criteria of assumed "change" is tethered to the idea of realising that ,change, in one's self cannot therefore be abridged to the same/similar ideas of others, it is a struggle then to remain original. I am still trying to conquer it whilst trying to not to lose my perspective to the idea of absolutes!
So this photo I took along the A100 with the Westhafen Canal running parallel, in which there are three or four barges moored along the walkway, I had been meaning to get to them since the weather has since started to slowly improve. They are basically big floating elongated buckets of either nothing or asphalt, earth and what have you. But they are interesting for the very old mechanical presence, compositional offerings and overall differing of imagery from nature and anything else that has been done to death so far. The clouds were thin and wonderfully striated offering a bokeh contradiction of composition's directional flow. It was tricky getting the angle as I wanted to get the motorway out of the focus completely.
That's all my waffle for today, I hope everyone's' week has gotten off well and so as always, thank you! :)

Even dead you remain the enemy and loser...................
The German militairy cemetry in Vladso (Belgium)
While the cemetries of the Allied troops have stark white colors, those of the German troops are gray- black and look dead and gloomy.
While the militairy cemetries are an example of discipline and structure, the German variants lack alignment and logic.
It was long be argued that this would be regulated in the Articles 225 and 226, from the Treaty of Versailles, but whoever reads these articles will find that this view is incorrect.
The real reason is that the French after the end of the insane war were ordered tot give the German dead their final resting place and collected the bodies in the sector of Ypres and burried them on free pieces of land, altough it was not obvious that they each received an individual tombstone.
So what we see here is in fact a mass grave, covered with granite slabs bearing their names.
Black evokes bad feelings and the Germans were in the eyes of the Allied the agressor, despite the fact that during investigations after the insane war it appeared that all warring parties had engaged in aggression and had committed atrocities. France, England and Italy had already secretly divided the territories of Germany and its colonies, the Habsburg Empire and the Ottoman Empire, in the heat of the battle!
It was of paramount legal importance that, according to the President of the United States Wilson's conviction, Germany should be held responsible but not blamed for the insane war breaking out. However they were incomprehensible responsible for the reparations!
The fact that the Germans and English soldiers at the front still had peaceful feelings towards eachother is evident from the inconceivable Christmas truce in 1914 that took place in the sector of Ypres.
This incomprehensible event of peace and fraternity during the heat of the battle took also place on field sites in many other sections at the front.
The German front soldiers started on Christmas eve 1914 by singing "Silent Night" and shouting "Merry Christmas".
When the British soldiers realized that this was well-meant, they came out of their trenches and even went to exchange their Christmas presents from home.
On Christmas Day, they played football together in the no-man's-land, the piece of land between the trenches of the warring armies; ordinairy soldiers who were tired of the war could momentarily throw of the yoke of the insane war.
When the army commanders, or rather the butchers, got wind of this, these fraternizing actions were officially stricktly forbidden from above and held out very severe punishments if the fightings were not resumed immedialy. The ensuing battles would claim millions of lives on the whole front.

Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, these ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls

The inscription on the monument "If I will forget Them, You, God in heaven, forget about me."- Adam Bernard Mickiewicz ( 24 December 1798 – 26 November 1855) Polish poet, dramatist, essayist, publicist, translator, professor of Slavic literature, and political activist.
The Volhynian, massacres, were anti-Polish genocidal ethnic cleansings conducted by Ukrainian nationalists.
The massacres took place within Poland’s borders as of the outbreak of WWII, and not only in Volhynia, but also in other areas with a mixed Polish-Ukrainian population, especially the Lvov, Tarnopol, and Stanisławów voivodeships (that is, in Eastern Galicia), as well as in some voivodeships bordering on Volhynia (the western part of the Lublin Voivodeship and the northern part of the Polesie Voivodeship. The time frame of these massacres was 1943-1945. The perpetrators were the Organization
of Ukrainian Nationalists-Bandera faction (OUN-B) and its military wing,
called the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
Their documents show that the planned extermination of the Polish population was called an “anti-Polish operation.”
Criminal Investigations
Genocide is a legal category. The Volhynian massacres have all the traits of genocide listed in the 1948
UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which defines genocide
as an act “committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group,
as such.” In Polish academia the Volhynian massacres are referred to as genocidal ethnic cleansings,
the Volhynian (or Volhynian-Galician) slaughter, or, in legal terminology, the crime of genocide.
Polish historians are emphasizing that the Volhynian bloodbath is the uncleared crime of genocide still, and praise of Stepan Bandera and members murderous party of OUN-UPA by the current Ukrainian authorities.
The scuffles we witnessed on the lek usually involved a couple of birds facing off and trying to grab feathers from each other. These two birds, however, were much more committed to conflict-- multiple times we saw them latch on to each other and end up rolling on the ground as they tried to get the other to submit. They always strutted away, apparently no worse for the wear, but it was a bit unnerving. They were definitely the exception to what we saw, though.

#4880 - 2021 Day 131: We've committed to No Mow May, a scheme to not mow the grass through the month of May, to encourage pollenators in to the wild flowers. We have the ubiquitous daisies and dandelions of course, but already there are signs of other wild plants, such as acquilegia, fox and cubs, and selfheal ... I'll make a few more studies over the month I think.

The fella was particularly committed to fishing. We saw him fishing here on several evenings when we walked that way, once with a large barracuda in the sand beside him. So we know he had some success.
We don't know these people, but I like the implied story we get from the positions and directions of their bodies and fishing rods. What do you think the story is?
A couple of summers ago, I witnessed the most meaningful ceremony I've ever seen. My friend G married her longtime love. And before I go on... a word about their love.
It's something you can feel when you walk into their house. It emanates... not just from them, but from the house itself... the furniture... the animals... the garden... the bric a brac. Entering that house is like walking into some big yellow-warm sunshine embrace; it is nothing short of palpable. And seeing them together is even more powerful.
These are two people who just so clearly delight in each other's company. Like all of us, they have their share of less than stellar days, but they're strong for each other, they support one another, they complement each other... and, like I said, when you see them together, you can't help but share a little hiccup in your heart... a skip-step of giddiness. In short, if ever two people should be married, G and her love were those two people. And they're both from backgrounds that value marriage; that see it as the highest expression of togetherness.
But there was one more factor at play that made their wedding the specialest occasion. Until that year, they had not had the legal right to marry. Why? Because G and her One True Love are women. To which I say... So fucking what??
Marriage, as I understand it, is all about love and commitment. And no two people were ever more in love or more committed.
And to those who argue same-sex marriage somehow undermines the so-called sanctity of the so-called institution of marriage... I say heterosexual couples... with their soaring divorce rates, and rampant infidelity, and vicious child-custody disputes... are doing that themselves.
Besides. Why should anyone's choice of who to love... or who to marry... be anyone else's business? As long as no one's being victimized, what's the problem?
One of the arguments advanced here in Canada, where same-sex marriage is legal (for the time being, anyway)... is that, if THIS is okay, then what's next? Polygamy?
To which I say... what's the hairy issue with polygamy? If three people (or four or five or whatever) choose to form a legal bond and raise their family collectively... again, as long as no one's being victimized... what is the problem?
Oh, say the critics, but polygamy's tied to child abuse. Uh, right. That's the same thing they say about same-sex unions... based on their ludicrous assumption that all homosexuals are somehow pedophiles, or sex fiends. Ridiculous.
I've heard otherwise rational men say... I'd never go to a gay male doctor.
To which I say.... don't flatter yourself. Just because a man may be in a love with another man, that doesn't mean he's uncontrollably flinging himself at every damned man who walks through the door. I mean... I have a straight male doctor. That means... oooooohhhh.... gasp.... he has sex with women!!!! But that has absolutely nothing to do with him examining me in his professional capacity.
We have a polygamist sect here in British Columbia, and it's under near-constant scrutiny for child abuse. The allegation is that very young girls are married off to men, against their will.
To which I say... if that's the case, it's child abuse, for sure. But it's an entirely separate issue from the marital status of the parents involved.
Sorry if I'm ranting here, but this whole issue gets my knickers in a major twist. I think it's because... as one of those kids who was teased and taunted for simply being who I was... I sort of understand what it must be like to face such senseless discrimination.
We have today, in too many parts of North America, a culture that says... while most other forms of organized hate and discrimination are frowned upon... it's okay to ostracize and mistreat people... solely on the basis of who they love.
It's insane. I mean... I remember when I first encountered boys. There was an instant ZING! From that time on, I pretty much always had a crush on some boy or other and... lucky me... I was part of a majority, so having those feelings was a-okay.
The gay and lesbian people I've talked to had similar experiences somewhere in their lives.... where they felt that overwhelming sense of attraction and excitement and curiosity. But... unlucky them, they were part of a minority, and made to think that what they felt was somehow bad or wrong.
I'm on this topic today because our federal government (recently elected and right wing) is threatening to undo the same-sex marriage law. This is just the latest in a string of reversals that's included:
- killing the nearly-enacted bill that would've decriminalized marijuana
- killing an agreement with aboriginal people that would've finally begun addressing the deplorable conditions many of them live in
- reversing the country's commitment to do its part to address climate change, and
- killing a multi-year agreement with the provinces that would've made child care somewhat more affordable and accessible.
In the government's eyes, child care is bad. I mean, everyone knows mommies should stay home with their babies while daddies work. Climate change is just a bunch of made-up garbage; after all, those scientists are all a bunch of liberals. Aboriginal people... notwithstanding the fact that white people stole their land, stuck them on reserves, legislated away their rights and tore a whole generation of children away from their families and communities... Notwithstanding that, "those people" are just lazy; they just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. As for marijuana... well, we all know it's FAR more harmful than booze, which government not only endorses but shamelessly profits from. I mean... just look at all the domestic strife, and public brawls, and armed standoffs, and traffic carnage caused by those crazed, violent potheads. And those humsexuals... well. We can't deport them 'cause they're from here (darnit anyway). But we sure as hell owe it to the citizenry to make sure they're denied the most fundamental of human rights... the right to freely love.
I'm sorry if this is a downer but I'm sick at heart for my country today. I fear where we're going and I feel so helpless... watching our common sense progress slip away.
I guess I should just be glad that G and her One True Love are already married... and no one... not even right wing governments... can take what they have away from them.

Sometimes you can be committed to two images but realise they don't necessarily sit well together. The last two uploads (5220 and the Nodding Donkey) fall in to that category, imho.
As a result I've decided to insert this one between them - a shot of GBRf 'newbie' 69008 approaching Basingstoke station at some speed with the 12.30pm Mountfield Sidings - Southampton Western Docks gypsum empties (4Y19).
Framed to make the best of the sunlight whilst incorporating the signal gantry, this one was running 7 minutes behind schedule and wasn't hanging around either. Even though I was stood well behind the yellow line, it felt prudent to take another couple of steps back as soon as I'd grabbed the shot!
For anyone who's not in the know, 69008 is essentially a fully-rebuilt and re-engined class 56 (56038 in this case), a class that originally saw service in the 1970s. Their conversion was deemed to be a cheaper and less risky option compared to designing and sourcing a completely new locomotive.
Note the old Basingstoke Signal Box in the centre background, now thought to be used as a S&T workshop / canteen facility.

The knocker on the Cathedral’s northern door, known as the Sanctuary Knocker, played an important part in the Cathedral’s history. Those who ‘had committed a great offence,’ such as murder in self-defence or breaking out of prison, could rap the knocker, and would be given 37 days of sanctuary within which they could try to reconcile with their enemies or plan their escape.
28th March 2018:
Graham committed a crime this morning by forgetting to buy me my breakfast cereal so this afternoon I nipped into town to see what the small supermarket had, not a lot! But, I did find some porridge which will keep me going until he or us both next go to the main supermarket.
On my way down I noticed this ribbon tied to a lamppost. I checked the others nearby and none of them had been decorated, so no idea why this one was. However I did like the light shining on it, so took a photo. To the amusement of the owner of the house nearest to it. They were in their front garden doing some planting!

I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it’s because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it’s because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came.

The Art Nouveau is the style of natural harmony. Its committed goal is the establishment of the concord of the beauty and function without compromise. This is the last comprehensive European style enriching the European culture in the applied art, the fine art and construction design. The art of the Hungarian masters enriched the unique idiom of the Art Nouveau. Being a rich resource of the trasures of this style, the Hungarian Art Nouveau is a worthy competiror of the heritages of the French, German, Belgian and Aystrian Art Nouveau. The permanent exhibition consists of paintings, furniture, ornaments and interiors. It provides and authentic sight of the atmosphere of the civic life of the “peacetime” of Budapest for the visitors. A cafe of friendly atmosphere and shop of original silver jewelries and ceramic copies waith the visitors.

The building, designed by Emil Vidor, reflects the influence of Belgian and French architecture. At the same time, the facade of the building also incorporates Hungarian patterns, like the Zsolnay ceramics patterns. Not long ago, the building was entirely renovated. Besides the private museum operating in the establishment and displaying furniture, porcelain, ironwork and paintings, visitors can sit into a lovely café, too.
In 1907 the periodical Hungarian Competition (Magyar Pályázat) presents a description of the building in the Architectonic Chronicle section (Építőművészeti Krónika) with the title: Mr. Bedő Béla's Honvéd Street Palace. The designer, Emil Vidor, took good care of the building’s interior space as well, in the spirit of Gesamtkunstwerk (all objects in the same style).
This powerful unity of the arts and crafts in 1903 was a groundbreaking event in Hungary. The Bedő House was built only six years after the Belgian Victor Horta made his first fully Art Nouveau house, and in the same time with the Scottish architect, Mackintosh's famous arts house.
Even a contemporary description mentions the planned use of specially designed murals, the richly applied stained and ground glass, and generally the special design furnishing of the whole building.
On PBS Masterpiece Theatre “Vienna Blood” prodution the location was used and the Dr’s apartment was within this fine building.
