A path carved by will alone—uncharted, relentless, stretching beyond the horizon. The journey of command is not one of comfort, but of clarity. Each step forward is a testament to discipline, every mile a record of trials overcome.

To lead is to walk ahead, unwavering, indifferent to the weight of the past or the uncertainty of the future. The desert does not yield to the weak; neither does the road to mastery.

Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, commanding general of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, swore in 46 of the Army's newest recruits Friday, Feb. 11 at Military Appreciation Night at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Lynch and IMCOM Command Sgt. Maj. Neil Ciotola, who rode alongside him during the ceremony, both served in the 1st Cav. Div. at Ft. Hood and gained experience riding horses during their service.

Lynch and Ciotola spent an hour visiting with the recruits and their Families before the ceremony.

"For all you youngsters, you know how much I love you," Lynch told the recruits before officially swearing them in as the newest members of the military. "I'm humbled to be in your presence."

The swearing-in ceremony kicked off the rodeo event, which sold out at 16,500 people, including 1,500 military personnel and their Families, according to Duane Heady, chairman of the Rodeo Ticket Committee. Every Friday night during the rodeo, which runs from Feb. 3 through Feb. 20, military servicemembers and their Families gain free admission to the rodeo.

"We wanted to combine the patriotic tenor of San Antonio with bringing in our new recruits," said Maggie Brewster, IMCOM community relations officer, who coordinated the ceremony. "The rodeo crowd is pretty all-American."

Derby House

A top secret WWII Bunker, located beneath the streets of Liverpool, from where the Battle of the Atlantic was masterminded.

The bunker was sealed after the war and then followed years of neglect.

The upper floors of the building were eventually converted to modern office accommodation but the reinforced central core of the command bunker proved too costly to demolish and remained sealed.

In 2017 the bunker was taken over by Big Heritage, a non-profit organisation.

An extensive programme of restoration was undertaken at which time new hidden parts of the bunker complex were discovered.

The bunker has now been restored and opened as a museum.

The areas open to visitors are only a small part of the original complex that remains hidden under the streets of the city.

The reopened site now ranks as one of the most popular historic sites in Liverpool.

CAMP ITAMI, Japan – Army Command Sgt. Maj. Eric C. Dostie, command sergeant major, U.S. Army Japan (USARJ), met Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Warrant Officer Akihiro Kanae, command sergeant major, JGSDF Western Army at Camp Itami, Japan, Feb. 22, 2016.

Dostie and Kanae exchanged ideas to empower their respective noncommissioned officer (NCO) corps. Among the many topics discussed included integrating USARJ NCO instructors in the JGSDF’s Basic English language course, expanding the Japan Officer Exchange Program to senior NCOs, and enhancing the NCO corps’ role in bilateral training exercises.

Dostie’s short but productive visit comprised a traditional Japanese luncheon followed by a tour of the JGSDF Middle Army museum. The museum’s collection showcased Japan’s proud military history while highlighting its plans to reconstruct the JGSDF regional armies into a more cohesive, rapidly deployable force.

Dostie and Kanae exchanged gifts in a show of friendship that signified the closing months in their respective positions. Kanae plans to retire from the JGSDF in February 2017, while Dostie will say, “sayonara,” to Japan in March as he prepares for his next assignment as the command sergeant major for U.S. Army Central, a major command headquartered in Fort McPherson, Georgia, that boasts an area of responsibility of more than 20 countries in Southwest Asia and North Africa.
