Wardrobe Colours. #marksta #iPhone5

This Goldeneye male was visiting the Calgary Zoo on the same day I was, on 9 April 2013. Though the reflections look rather like autumn colours, the colour comes from a nearby children's climbing frame.

It looks cold but it was our warmest day at 27c. The sun came out at the end if the day sadly. On our holiday we spent 20 days in Queensland with the first in for two nights in Brisbane before heading to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Australia for six nights.

The Noosa area was originally home to several Aboriginal groups. These primarily include the Undumbi tribe to the south, the Dulingbara to the north, and the Kabi Kabi (or Gabbi Gabbi) to the west.

Although reports of the area can be traced back to Captain Cook's voyages in May 1770, European settlement in the region did not proceed for almost a century. This early settlement was primarily driven firstly by timber logging and then secondly a gold rush in the Gympie area, north of Noosa. The difficulty of transport in the region, which persisted to the 1920s and beyond, was one major reason for this.

In 1871, the Government laid out a port at Tewantin, which was duly surveyed and by 1877 contained two hotels, a boarding house, school, police station and telegraph office. In 1872, the Noosa Heads and coastal region north to Peregian Beach was set aside as an Aboriginal Mission, however this was cancelled in 1878 and land was opened for selection on 15 January 1879. With the advent of the railway, Tewantin declined in importance.[4]

In the last 50 years Noosa has been transformed from an isolated fishing village to a popular tourist destination. Although this has had its costs the shire is known for its generally greener approach to development. Most development in Noosa has been restrained. Noosa has no high rise buildings, due both to local community pressure and to council planning action, and much remaining native forest. 34.8 per cent of the Noosa district consists of National Parks, Conservation Parks, State Forests, and other generally protected land.

The popularity of Noosa comes from the fact that is it one of Australia's few North facing beaches located on the East Coast, hence Noosa Beach is relatively protected from on-shore wind and storms.

A sunny late autumn day at Sheffield Park, near Uckfield in West Sussex ... a garden famed for its autumn foliage colour!

Here are Betula, Nyssa, and Acer ...

I was a bit bored today and tried to find something to take a picture of. Well, that's what I found. I like the outcome of it.

What about you? :-)

Oh, and what do you think it is?

winter has come with snow which covered everything, but we still have colourful sky!

Pics snapped during my 2013 vacation. I had visited Delhi, Agra and Jaipur during the rainy months of August.

Taken near my home. I used a polariser to accentuate colour

Friday, 21 July 2023: our temperature just after noon is 26°C

(windchill is 26°C). Sunrise was at 5:46 am and sunset is at 9:38 pm. The next three days are forcast to be 29°C-30°C. The brutal heat is back across the Prairies this weekend along with the risk of more thunderstorms.

Yesterday, 20 July, I went for my first physiotheray appointment for my injured right shoulder. Apparently, I have a frozen shoulder as well as the completely torn tendons from my trip and bad fall in September 2022. Great physio assessment and treatment for an hour and a half, which included acupuncture, TENS, and suction cups.

A touch of filter was added to this image in post-processing.

Like in so many other places, and for so many other people, our weather has been crazy - either smoky, hot, or rainy - or all three at once. The other day, the smoke from our Alberta wildfires returned to the Calgary area. Almost every day the past few weeks, the weather forecast has included risk of thunderstorm, rain, sometimes smoke. Some days, the forecast turned out to be accurate, many days it turned out to be wrong. Anyway, on 13 July 2023, I needed to get out for a while. Also, I read that the berry U-picks at the Saskatoon Farm start on 17 July, which will mean that the parking lots will be packed, so I wanted to avoid that.

I hadn't been to the Farm since last year, perhaps a couple of months after September, when I had my bad trip and fall. During all the (7!) winter months, there was no way I wanted to be walking on snow and ice, given all the damage to my body from my fall, and definitely wanting to avoid any risk of slipping or tripping again! I really missed calling in at the Farm and having either a delicious breakfast or lunch. So, finally, I made myself do this on 13 July 2023.

It felt good wandering the grounds and walking through the greenhouse, taking a few photos. Fresh garden vegetables have started being available, but not yet broccoli, etc.. Knowing that I only wanted a light bag to carry back to the car, I chose a few white potatoes (delicious) and a bunch of golden beets.

After the Farm, I had planned to drive straight home but changed my mind and took the longer way back, via Blackie. The canola fields were just beautiful. A few birds were seen, including one of my favourites, a Wilson's Snipe. I had seen a Snipe at this location before, but it was not my more usual place.

The weather was a mix of Alberta wildfire smoke, wind, overcast, and rain (part of the time). Far from ideal conditions for photography, but I did my best.

just experimenting with colours a bit!

Disposable lighters

These large pieces of coloured glass are based on the 2nd level of the old lighthouse at Dungeness. There was a lamp in the middle (someone's nicked it). When lit it would allow approaching ships to know whether they were in the correst position. If they came from one direction they had a green light but if they saw a red one then they were too close to shore. When coming from the opposite direction the colours were reversed.
