The entire Pooram parade takes place around a huge traffic roundabout called the Swaraj Roundabout in the town of Trichur, now Thrissur. This rotunda is reputed to be the largest in the world. The Vadukkanathan Hindu temple from which the parades originate is located inside this rotunda, and the elephant parades go round it. On the periphery of this massive Swaraj Roundabout are several gorgeously illuminated shrines called Poora Pandal. I couldn't make out if these are premanent structures or made from bamboo and paper like some of the Chinese decorations. Here is one of the gorgeously illuminated 'Poora Pandal' shrines. Beccles Yacht Station is set in attractive tree lined surroundings close to the town's amenities. At night the area is lit with coloured lamps that reflect in the water.

This year Vivid Sydney Festival organizers chose to make the walls and ceiling of the historic Argyle Cut, in the Rocks, the focus of an interesting and colourful daisy chain and roses lightshow.
The Argyle Cut is located on Argyle St in Sydney's Rocks district. It is a short tunnel cut by convicts through the sandstone ridge of The Rocks to connect Sydney Cove with Darling Harbour and Millers Point. It was considered an engineering challenge for its day when it was started in 1843 by convicts with hammers and chisels. However it was successfully completed in 1867 with the help of explosives. It is possible today to walk through the Argyle Cut to the corner of Lower Fort Rd.
While the lightshows around the harbour are stunning it is worth noting that there is just so much more to the Vivid Sydney Festival and more than one night does need to be allocated to see all that this festival has to offer.
