Almost completed design for a tee. I'm fascinated by the Day of the Dead festival in Hispanic culture. I love the melting together of celebration and morbidity - the proliferation of sugared skulls, decorated skulls, shrines, candles, masses of flowers. It reminds me a little of the aesthetic and mood of the Baz Lurhmann film 'Romeo and Juliet' - which was obviously inspired in part by aspects of that culture.
I drew reference from a human skull, marigold flowers and roses, plus also from traditional tattoo designs for the heart, crown, ribbon, butterflies and birds. Some freehanded candles, blossoms and two stars finish it off. I took it all into Illustrator and created clean linework - then hand rendered the colour with pencils (took approx 8 hours non stop).
Once I get my silly programs working again I'll clean it up in Photoshop - the skull actually has beautiful blue gradients over it, which are lost in this initial scan. I also want to edit the candles and stars along with the overall colour.
Should be available as a tee very soon at my Redbubble store. I'll be my first customer!

i really wanted to draw a fantasy scene from a forest, the stuff i see when walking around in the woods...
i sketched the mushroom from a reference image, coloured it in... and it just looked really blah. so i took it to photoshop and made it look vintage, haha. notice the paper texture coming through?

Colour Pencil.
This took approximatively 1 hour. I erased the background to tone it down a bit (it was too strong in the early stages), and carried on with the fruits. I found the grapes require a lot of patience, because they are all the same, so you do the same shading over and over again...
I am relatively pleased with this. I am glad to play with my pencils again. I will try watercolour at some point...
Now, what I really would like to do with all my fruit left is a picture like Arcimboldo's portraits.

Human color perception is 3 dimensional. Any four colors are linearly related. Any one of the colors can be represented as a combination or superpositioning, of the other three. For example, if we select R (red), G (green), and B (blue) as the three primary colors. Any color C, can be constructed by
C = r R + g G + b B
where r, g, b are scalars denoting the amounts of each primary contained in C. Any color is defined in three-dimensional space by the point (r, g, b).
This is what I made for the Dutch LOVE-VALENTINE challenge. I am not very satisfied. I used colourpencils, also black colourpencil for shading. I am not content with the results of that. I think Moleskine-paper is not made for colourpencils, at least not the journal I have.
Its sometimes sexier being the odd one out of the RED HOT SEXY ones.. :)
