Collected Sunrises in my Gallery:

Sonnenaufgang - Sunrise

About every other day, I shoot the view from my window and collect the pics in a gallery here: Views from my window

and the few that made "explore"

I had collected this leaf with eight chrysalises on board without knowing what would emerge and the consequent eclosures were as much a surprise as magnificent.

These Jezebel butterflies don't travel far away from one another as caterpillars and consequently pupate together also. This leaf had eight chrysalis on it and because they usually pupate at the same time, often when the foodplant is defoliated, they emerge as adults synchronously also.

(The enforced hiatus from photo-taking due to the predictably unpredictable weather continues, so I intend to continue some reposts though this time of what I consider my favourite twenty images (in no particular order and in batches of five). I have now surpassed 10000 images in my photostream, so have plenty to choose from. Invariably, these will not be images that have been particularly well received on their initial appearance in my photostream, but have significance to me maybe because of the circumstances related to their capture, as images I have a sentimental, nostalgic and/or emotional connection to or perhaps just what I consider to be a good shot.)

I like picking up these tiny little pebbles that make up our waterfront. They were collected in the summer time. and I like the pretty little ones for vase and flat baskets just for décor.

Collected from my trusted local mechanic this afternoon, in response to my request to have it serviced sooner than I otherwise would have done if I wasn't taking it down to Lincolnshire for FotU in just over a weeks' time. This will be by far it's longest trip in my ownership - I understand that the last owner's grandson had it down to the Lake District, but he had no interest in the car and caused a lot of it's cosmetic ills. Hopefully this will be a happier trip south - new oil with Daihatsu OE filter, new coolant, new air filter, new plugs. The timing belt was replaced last year along with less obvious things like the gearbox oil and power steering fluid. I have no hesitation about preserving this car, but still worry as I'm just a worrier, unfortunately. Don't get me started on the red one - as soon as I can find someone I trust to start on it, I'll be worrying about it instead of this one, lol.

These are from a small tree in a hedge beside my polytunnel.

I think it is from a sucker of a wild damson that I was given. most years it produces no damsons at all.

Years ago I used to make a lot of jam. In recent years I have not made much jam at all.

Damson jam was always one of my favourites so once I had a bowl full of damsons collected that seemed the obvious thing to do, to make a small batch of damson jam. I am pleased that I did that.

My grandmother used to make damson jam when I was a small child.

This is my last post for a week. I'll be away for Christmas. happy holidays everyone!

Going through some data archives looking for lost data I never processed, here is over five hours of collected data from late 2023 on the Bubble Nebula.

From Wikipedia: “NGC 7635, also known as the Bubble Nebula, Sharpless 162, or Caldwell 11, is an H II region emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies close to the direction of the open cluster Messier 52. The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot, 8.7 magnitude young central star, SAO 20575. The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow.”

A new picture of NGC 3147 from Hubble, comprised of data collected very recently, some of which was taken just a couple of weeks ago. This is in near-infrared and visible light, so the dust lanes look extra reddish. There's a certain transparency to the disk showing reddish background galaxies that I quite like, thanks to the near-infrared wavelengths in the red channel. It's one of those galaxies that fits nicely within the Hubble footprint, so this is a nearly complete picture of the brighter parts of the whole object.

I enhanced the saturation and clarity of the whole galaxy, and the center dust lanes have been greatly sharpened. The small hole left where the chip gaps intersected near the nucleus was filled with data cloned 180° from the other side of the nucleus.

Conditions seemed great (about -12C and calm), but the flakes were odd, as seen in this shot. I suspect there might have been a layer of much warmer air up there, which caused the flakes to partially melt as they were falling, before freezing up again... I used a couple of tuques and a glove to collect some flakes as they were falling.

I collected these quartz crystals in Westmoreland, New Hampshire in 2005. Front crystal is 1 cm long.

Conditions seemed great (about -12C and calm), but the flakes were odd. I suspect there might have been some much warmer air up there... I used a couple of tuques and a glove to collect some flakes as they were falling. Though visually a tad busy, this pile-up was one of the day's more interesting sights.

Our Daily Challenge - Golden Rules - 4/14/12

It is such a pleasure to hang the ornaments on my tree and see the ones I have received from friends and family over many years..I have such an array of homemade and store bought, from yarn and wood to glass and sparkle, in reds and golds and everything else, so I guess my "theme" is "collected memories". I love it.

I have so many photos of squirrels lately...guess I should add some of the Christmas tree before the holiday is all over...now I am off to bake my dark fruitcake....it is a tradition and even though many people don't seem to like fruitcake, in our house it just would not be Christmas without it. Then off to the store for butter for Shortbread cookies..

This bee has collected so much pollen on his haunches that it looks like saddlebags! :)

Maybe he was a biker in another life. LOL

(He's rummaging in a Magnolia blossom from the tree in my yard.)

.

These Magnolia flowers have a potent citrus aroma that is delightful, and also beyond my ability to describe. (The flowers are also described as emitting a lemon/citronella scent.)

In addition to their surreal beauty they attract a couple of different kinds of honey bees as an added bonus.

Have a nice Friday and stay safe.

Collected Comfort looks into the spaces created by people to showcase their collections. Whether it be toys, games, books or even cars, I am exploring why people like myself find comfort and mindfulness from dedicated space and how it acts as a form of escapism.

Starting off with my space that drove me to do this project. This "LEGO Shed" is home to my entire LEGO collection, starting from the age of just 4. This is my safe haven and my happy place in physical form.

my daughter collects bones, and other objects from recently "deceased" animals

she delighted in showing me this collected snakeskin--thinking it would "freaK" me out. The theme for FlickrFriday was "SCALES" so of course I took a photo!

this was one of a few photos that I took, but not the one I submitted

My best friend, Shannon, has the most amazing personal library I've seen in person. Book shopping and of course reading was our biggest bond at the start of our friendship, and I even made her buy 18 books in one thrift haul during the very beginning.

Emily Dickinson spent most of her adult life in self-isolation writing poems. After her death her sister found the poetry and had it published. Makes me wonder what people are doing now days while isolated!

It must be something in my make up. As a child I collected train numbers, at the age of 34 I started climbing the Munros (282 mountains in Scotland) and all along I have maintained records of all manner of activities. Such records even include daft things like the number calories burnt off in the gym on a wet Tuesday evening in 2005. What these lists and records do is drive me forward to whatever my chosen goal is.

In the couple of years leading up to Covid I had taken three trips to Tenerife, one with Shirl and a couple with Mark to hike. The volcanic landscape that surrounds Mount Teide is rugged, barren and most arid.

These mountains are much bigger than they appear in this iPhone panorama with the snow capped high point of El Pico Del Teide standing proud at 12,188 feet. The other named peaks from left to right are Pico Viejo (10,245 feet), Guajara (8,917 feat) and La Sombrere (7,989 feet). All of these have been climbed at least once, however the exception here is Roque de la Grieta shown central in this panorama which still calls me. Standing at 8,448 feet it is somewhat isolated and well worth an ascent. As and when safe international travel resumes it is quite likely that my first winter trip will be made to Tenerife with the aim of hiking Roque Grieta.
