In Lofoten Norway there are beautiful sandy beaches without people, even on a hot summer day like this. The reason for this is that the water is freezing cold.

I've caught only one Indiana Northeastern GP30, and that was a couple of years ago on a trip back from Frankenmuth, MI. The 2230 was headed back to Hillsdale with a handful of cars on a gray October morning. Thank God the fall colors were in force and the GP30 was wearing those nice yellow stripes.

With the influx of business because of the opening of the coal mines surrounding Merritt and an increase in the ranching economy, business expanded and the current Coldwater Hotel was officially opened in May 1910. The structure has three stories, with seven foot balconies, and fifty rooms. The cost of construction in those days was around $6,000. The Coldwater was a popular hotel and said to be one of the finest dollar-a-day hostelries in the interior of BC

Finding abandoned service stations from the 80s is really a wonderful thing. This one wandered forward, maybe even into the 00s. But the pumps never made the jump to card readers. It's a weird in between relic that suits me just fine.

A wintry afternoon at Arnside sees 68003 and 68007 top and tailing 6C51 1247 Sellafield-Heysham over the viaduct.

A westbound BNSF SLPCTAC123 stack train skirts the clear and cold Frog Pond west of Trout Creek, Montana. The pond was mostly frozen over, but it did have a few holes of open water like this.

Late October in 2015, just about two days short of three years ago, we found Indiana Northeastern 2230 headed east with a short train, leaving Coldwater, MI behind. The day was mild yet dark and overcast. The day had started out nice but changed quickly, of course, just as we spied the sharp GP30. Running long hood forward didn't really bother me; I was just happy to see an INER GP30. I haven't seen one since, so it's time to begin the search again.

Coldwater, MI, Summer 2013.

This schoolhouse is in Wright County, Missouri. Thanks to Uncle Phooey for geotagging it! Fortunately there had recently been a lot of brush cleared around it. You can see the stubble. Not much for walking in, but it sure opened the area up for photos. There must be a renewed interest in the old building. Even the floor inside has been swept well.

I don't think the place does much business anymore. My quarter I left on the counter last time was still there.

I hope they restock soon. I bought one of the e last four bottles of Coke left in the cooler

This sign leading into the community where my parents live. It is maintained by The Hotrock Ladies Home Demonstration Club, which is part of 4H.

The Grist Mill in Coldwater was first constructed in 1833-34 for the Ojibwa natives who had been settled on 10,000 acres between the Coldwater River and the Narrows at Orillia.

This piece of history not taught in school...

"At the Coldwater Reserve, the Coldwater Experiment as it became known, there were one team of oxen for all the farms and were expected to plough all the land. The people were promised many things to assist in farming and to help with this major transition in their lifestyle. They proved to be not the best of farmers. The people were more interested in hunting, canoeing, visiting and working the sugar bush. They were tied to the land yet had the gift of movement with the water. They cleared the land and then it was discovered that it was valuable land. The Government sweet talked the people out of it. Our ancestors were generous, they shared the land. The Government said they only needed a bit of land and that there were only a few of them. We had no idea of how many relatives they had. They promised to help us and thus the treaties were created and signed. The people that had worked closely together then split up in three groups. In 1836 the settlement was released to white settlers."
