Cold+Dark+Wet - Greg Brown
Lonely and cold, I search for the warmth I once knew.
Even among crowds, I find myself looking for you.
An ache in my chest I had never known before,
Longing to hold you close, to feel your warmth once more.
I keep myself busy to let the long hours pass,
Filling my days with things that mean little at last.
For if I allow my restless mind to grow still,
The tears will come, and my heart surely will spill.
No matter where I go, no matter what I do,
The quiet emptiness remains without you.
Coming home now to this silent house
Is not coming home—it's just a house.
Our favorite quote still hangs on the wall:
“Together is a wonderful place to be.”
Once I would read it and quietly smile,
Now it is only a memory… waiting for me.
Home in Heaven someday I will be,
When God calls my name, that day I’ll see.
You made me a promise before you went—
To greet me with a hug, Heaven-sent.
Alone in the mountains I look to the west,
Remembering the moments I cherished the best.
The cold of the winter settles deep in my chest,
The loneliness of life… until my last breath.
For the one who still holds my heart, until we meet again, forever "my Eddie."
This photo was taken during the 2014 Winter season at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.
The photo shows one of the tracked vechicles used to get around outside in Antarctica. This vehicle is called an LMC and it holds about 5 people uncomfortably. During the summer we had a lot of other vechiles up and running including snowmobiles, cranes, loaders, LMCs and a tracked van. During the winter we had only two of these LMCs running and a couple loaders. The LMCs were always on standby for an emergency response.
The big bright ball is a super moon and the haze is the LMC's exhaust.
It was a stretch of enough cold rain to make the waterfalls flow impressively. The fall season was one of drought this year. I always enjoy the backdrop of these old buildings here.

A small stream that flows into lake Elliðavatn, SW Iceland. I thought this looked better in b&w, the light was pretty grayish anyway :)
Only on a cold frigid morning up in the high country have I seen these colors. This was such a morning up atop the Grand Mesa of Colorado at about 10,000 feet. Every shiver was worth it to see this beauty.

Another image from a 35mm slide. Taken on a very cold early December morning when the ocean water is relatively warm. This condition occurs when the cold air meets the warmer water causing this mist condition. In the background you can see the formation of a mini "water spout" a whirling column of air and water mist.
Having fun with water and the frigid cold of air of -27C, freezing almost instantly. Two more in the comments.
