Amanda Feilding is the Countess of Wemyss and March, an English artist, scientist and drug policy reformer.
Feliding gained notoriety in 1970 after drilling a hole in her forehead with a dentist's drill (with the help of Joe) as part of a short cult art film about trepanation entitled Heartbeat in the Brain.
In 1998, she founded the Beckley Foundation, a charitable trust that promotes an evidence-based approach to drug policies and conducts neuroscientific research into psychoactive substances its the effects on the brain and cognition.

These are the results from WAIS-IV (I think) testing done a few years ago, as part of testing for Specific Learning Difficulty. I have Dyspraxia which went unrecognised throughout my eduction - because my high verbal reasoning masked the areas in which I really struggle.
A spiky profile like this - some areas of high ability, some areas of much lower ability - is part of what indicates a SpLD.
My perceptual organisation is unusually good for someone with Dyspraxia. No explanation has been given for this. When I am able to focus entirely on one task I can do very well, but these abilities in a test scenario don't reflect my abilities (or difficulties) with real-world scenarios where complete concentration on one thing is rarely possible. As soon as I am having to split attention I stop being able to cope.

In the Invisible Gorilla, authors Simons and Chabris leverage their now famous study on 'inattentional blindness' to remind us to be wary of our intuition.
The study hinges on a video in which two teams are playing basketball, one dressed in black, the other in white. The viewer is asked to count the passes made by the black clad team. While this is happening, a student dressed in a gorilla suit walks through the game.
50% of people doing the test do not see the gorilla.
The authors prove that we often don't perceive what we see.
This leads me to believe that a huge portion of our marketing goes unnoticed, even when it's in plain view, as our consumers continue to be hyper-distracted in an always-on culture.
Uterus is a three-dimensional light and sound installation, providing the opportunity for sensorial experiences of one’s own emotional habitat. Going beyond concepts of emotionality as “something inner” expressed by “something outer,” encoding and decoding are parts of the emotional process themselves. This raises the question of emotional articulations, the relation between cognition and sensory-motor aspects of habitualized emotions, and their relationship to the imaginary as well as proprioception. Exploring the relationship between body conditions and feelings, considering the simultaneous character of our mental health and being, we reach the idea of safeness. Like the child’s instinct to find a place to hide out, in our grown-up version we should find these in-between points where we can express ourselves freely.

2011 .. Spider Monkey taking a drink from the moat around their territory .. this endangered species has been bred in the Auckland Zoo at Western Springs since 1950 and is exported to other zoos around the world ..
Spider monkey From Wikipedia
Spider monkeys of the genus Ateles are New World monkeys in the subfamily Atelinae, family Atelidae. Like other atelines, they are found in tropical forests of Central and South America, from southern Mexico to Brazil. The genus contains seven species including the critically endangered Black-headed Spider Monkey and Brown Spider Monkey.
The disproportionately long limbs and long prehensile tail makes them one of the largest New World monkeys and gives rise to their common name. Spider monkeys live in the upper layers of the rainforest and forage in the high canopy, from 25 to 30 m (82 to 98 ft). They primarily eat fruits, but will also occasionally consume leaves, flowers, and insects. Due to their large size, spider monkeys require large tracts of moist evergreen forests and prefer undisturbed primary rainforest. They are social animals and live in bands of up to 35 individuals but will split up to forage during the day.
Recent meta-analyses on primate cognition studies indicated that spider monkeys were the most intelligent New World monkeys. They can produce a wide range of sounds and will 'bark' when threatened, other vocalisations include a whinny similar to a horse and prolonged screams.
They are an important food source due to their large size and are widely hunted by local human populations; they are also threatened by habitat destruction due to logging and land clearing. Spider monkeys are susceptible to malaria and are used in laboratory studies of the disease. The population trend for spider monkeys is decreasing; the IUCN Red List lists one species as vulnerable, four species as endangered and two species as critically endangered.
The monkeys may live 20 years or more, and females give birth once every 3 to 4 years.

Silent Questions | MindSways - April 2013
SEEING THROUGH ILLUSIONS
Is this email not displaying correctly?

Hi,
The principle that powers Mind Magic and what we focus on in the Sleight of Mind Set workshops, is how we influence the silent questions in the minds of others. The tricks, illusions and pieces of performance we teach you on the SMS give you the tools and techniques to answer the silent questions. For more on this and information on the workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
Every time someone sees us, silent questions are stimulated in their minds. Every time we see or meet someone else silent questions are fired off in our minds. Though the questions are many, I would say that there are three dominant questions which arise when we are getting our message across;
What is your story?
Why should I care?
Do I need to pay attention?
All magic takes place in the theatre of our mind, as do the silent questions. It is in our minds that we pull together our experiences and answer the silent questions. I understand that all of life's experiences do not take place in the mind, but it is our mind that filters, interprets and creates meaning for us.
In communications theory the saying "it's not us, its them" has great importance.
Likewise in Psychological Artistry and in our Sleight of Mind Set workshops these take on a very important role. This is why understanding the silent questions are so important. The answer to these silent questions determines whether we grab and hold people's attentions or not. For more on the workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
THEATRE OF THE MIND - Tricks on 3 Levels
On the workshop we uncover tricks, look at making a trick into an effect and making the effect into a piece that works for you. The three levels we work on are:
Effect of a trick - triggers "how did you do that?"
Analysis of a trick - triggers "why does this trick work? Why does the effect happen?"
Practicality of a trick - explores how you can use the tricks
This involves using a combination of Psychology, Neuroscience, Smart Thinking and the ideas, tools and techniques from Mind Magic. The principles and lessons are useful in understanding our belief systems, how we think and act. It is in our minds that we experience emotions, thoughts and actions. These are in turn determined by the silent questions we ask ourselves.
We use Mind Magic effects as a reflection of how the mind works. We use the 3 levels above as a lens to increase our understanding how our minds control our actions, emotions and thoughts. It is through this that our minds tell us stories that justify our actions.
For more on this, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
SILENT LANGUAGE OF BELIEFS
Throughout the workshop we work with the theme of "All is not as it appears". Please take a look here at these example, the McGurk effect and Prof. Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect", a well-known Fred Astaire clip and Rory Sutherland's Perspective Is Everything talk. You can see them by going to mindsways.com/SMS/#PsychologicalArtistry. These show very clearly the importance of understanding the fact that
"We cannot believe what we see, but we see what we believe."
This is vital in all communications but also is a cornerstone in Mind Magic. The videos illustrate both the power and the approach of Psychological Artistry. I would love to know what you think.
THE FEEDBACK - What People Say
The feedback from the workshops have been extremely positive, with people (from last weeks workshops) saying things like:
"It really was most enjoyable and enlightening"
"Fantastic day... a great eye opener!"
"Another great course, with plenty to think about and over"
The workshops have been enjoyed and shown to be beneficial to many people over the past year. The events have been attended and proved to be relevant to people from a wide range of backgrounds including entrepreneurs, business consultants, health professionals, coaches of life, performance and sports, therapists, hypnotherapists, trainers etc.
This is an unorthodox approach to understanding human behaviour, illustrating and promoting our messages, and this is where the real power lies. As Marty Neumeier says in ZAG " Be Different - NO Really Different". For more on what people say, please see mindsways.com/WPS/
WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?
There are many definitions of psychology, some people will say it's about interpreting thoughts, influencing people's behaviour or getting a better understanding of motivation. It is all of these and more, but the one that sums it up for me is "the science of how we think".
Next is the artistry part, again, there have been many definitions but I like to think that artistry is a blend of:
Creating connection, rapport and emotions
Telling stories
Gaining and holding attention
Producing insights
Displaying human nature
Cognition
Show, Not Tell
Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insights (MMI's)
Therefore, Psychological Artistry is the blending of these two to create a method for successful communication. Psychological Artistry is where science and art meet Mind Magic.
The real power of Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry lies not with just the tricks, but the effect that the delivery of the tricks have on people, tapping into the emotions of mystery combined with the personal touch and firing off the silent questions. On the workshops and in the SNT kit, we give you the tricks, however, learning to use them with what you do is where the real power lies.
By delivering these tricks, you can evoke the making of the extraordinary. By combining the tricks with the energy of your words, your message and your personality, you make yourself stand out, stimulate fascination and create interest in you. This is when the real magic happens, in the theatre of the minds.

Almost offenisvely tacky ad with dubious research cited? Must be PETA. I am a vegetarian, but PETA is so obnoxious I end up craving cheeseburgers or KFC.

Start of round 3. At this point I had been back at work and living back at my apartment in Brooklyn for a little less than a week. I was so afraid to make the transition back to my old life. I'd basically forgotten how to function socially, and wasn't really sure how I was going to do performance-wise at my job. Chemo really takes a toll on your cognition.
