Given the NATO codename 'Bull', the Tu-4 was a direct copy of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. It first flew in 1947 and was the first Soviet strategic bomber.

A total of 847 were built, some serving until the 1960's.

There are three known survivors, two in China and this sole example in Russia.

After the success of the PGM-17 Redstone, the US Army began working on a more accurate, smaller intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM). The US Navy was beginning work on a similar project, submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM), so the two services partnered in development of what was codenamed Project Jupiter. Though the Redstone was not much more than an advanced version of the German V-2, the Jupiter offered better range (1500 miles) and far more accuracy: it could hit within half a mile of its target, unheard of in the early 1950s. With a 1.5 megaton punch, the Jupiter more than likely would be able to destroy even hardened or mobile targets. This was very useful to the Army, as the Redstone could only realistically hit either large formations or cities.

The Navy pulled out of the Jupiter project due to its liquid fuel (which was too risky on a submarine) to work on the Polaris project, but the Army continued on. The accuracy of the Jupiter found an enemy in the USAF, which was already working on its own IRBM--the Thor, which was longer ranged but nowhere near as accurate, and intended as a "city-buster." The Thor in turn was subordinate to the Atlas ICBM. The USAF pressured Congress to cancel the Jupiter entirely.

The Jupiter was saved by the launch of Sputnik I by the USSR in 1957. So shocked and terrified was Congress that the Jupiter and the Thor were put into full production immediately. Designated PGM-19, Jupiters began to roll off the assembly lines in 1958, with the first going active at bases in Italy and Turkey in 1961. By that time, however, the Army was stripped of the IRBM role, which was handed over to the USAF--which in turn had never really wanted anything to do with the Jupiter. Though meant as a mobile missile, the Jupiters were deployed to fixed sites, manned by mixed American and Italian or Turkish crews.

In the end, the Jupiter was not really needed. Technology moved so swiftly at the time that it was obsolete when deployed, and tying it to fixed sites meant that there was a good chance they would be destroyed before they could even launch. By 1962, only a year or so after deployment, the Jupiters were already scheduled to be withdrawn from service--but they did act as a useful bargaining chip between President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Jupiters were indeed withdrawn in 1963; only a few people knew it was part of the deal that ended the Crisis.

The Jupiter's saga was not quite over. Several were converted for research into manned suborbital flight, carrying squirrels and monkeys into space ahead of the Mercury program. It also served as the basis for the Juno satellite launchers and early Saturn 1B rockets.

Of about 100 Jupiters produced, today there are about six PGM-19s in their original configuration. This Jupiter was used as a reference by the Chrysler Corporation and was donated to the National Museum of the USAF in 1963. It was refurbished in 1998 and was moved inside in 2007. The overall white finish was used by operational Jupiters.

The six warheads in the foreground were not used in Jupiters, which were single-warhead missiles. This MIRV bus is likely from the LGM-118 Peacekeeper on display.

Aircraft technology accelerated so quickly during the 1930s that the Aichi D3A (codenamed "Val" by the Allies) was already approaching obsolescence by 1938. The Imperial Japanese Navy issued a requirement for a replacement that year, and Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal was awarded the contract for the D4Y Suisei (Comet).

The D4Y certainly showed promise: it was slim and fast, with plenty of room for its two man crew, and its Aichi Atsuta inline engine--based on the highly successful Daimler-Benz DB 601--gave it excellent performance in the vertical: it was actually faster than contemporary fighters in 1940, when the prototype flew, and would be the fastest dive bomber of World War II. Bombs could be carried in an internal weapons bay or on wing hardpoints, and the pilot also had a pair of machine guns in the cowl for strafing, while the navigator doubled as a gunner with a single machine gun in the rear. There were structural problems, however, and as a result the first D4Y1s did not reach the Japanese fleet until 1942, after the nation's entry into World War II. Two saw limited service as scout aircraft during the Battle of Midway, and both were lost when their carriers were sunk. By that time, the Suisei was in production to replace the D3A. It was codenamed "Judy" by the Allies.

Wartime conditions pointed up issues with the D4Y, however. The Atsuta engine was unreliable, and the IJN preferred radial engine aircraft in any case. In the D4Y3, the Atsuta was replaced with a more reliable Mitsubishi Kinsei radial engine, and this superseded the Atsuta-powered aircraft on the production line. The Kinsei gave the Suisei even better performance in the vertical, but the bigger engine made it tough to get back aboard a carrier, and reduced range. Operations in the Marianas also revealed the D4Y's biggest flaw: like most wartime Japanese aircraft, it traded protection for range, and if the Suisei was hit, its lack of crew armor and self-sealing fuel tanks usually killed the pilot and/or turned it into a torch.

As the Allies closed on Japan, the Suisei found another purpose, for which is was superbly suited: kamikaze. The D4Y's excellent dive speed made it hard to intercept, and though its flat-out speed no longer allowed it to outdistance the newer F6F Hellcat or F4U Corsair, it gave its crews a better chance than older aircraft. Suiseis were deadly against American carriers in the last year of the war: bomb-carrying D4Ys sank the USS Princeton (CVL-23) and heavily damaged the USS Franklin (CV-13); the latter was hit by two bombs that landed in a crowded hangar deck with a fully fueled and armed strike, and came very close to sinking the carrier. The Bunker Hill (CV-17) was also badly damaged by D4Y kamikazes, making it the most successful of the late-war Japanese attack aircraft. Some D4Y3s were modified as night fighters with cannon armament, but were unsuccessful, as they lacked radar with which to intercept the B-29 raids over Japan. The last kamikaze attack of the war, on 15 August 1945, was undertaken by D4Ys. A respectable 2038 Suiseis were built during the war, and two survive to this day.

This was another display model I picked up at the Pueblo Weisbrod Museum, in a "World War II Aircraft" grab-bag made by F-Toys--the choice was a D4Y, a Heinkel He 100, a Macchi C.202, or an Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik. I got the D4Y. This color scheme depicts an aircraft of the 701st Naval Air Group circa 1943-1944.

The Yalta Conference, sometimes called the Crimea Conference and codenamed the Argonaut Conference, held February 4–11, 1945, was the wartime meeting of the heads of government of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union, represented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and General Secretary Joseph Stalin, respectively, for the purpose of discussing Europe's post-war reorganization. The conference convened in the Livadia Palace near Yalta, in the Crimea.

The meeting was intended mainly to discuss the re-establishment of the nations of war-torn Europe. Within a few years, with the Cold War dividing the continent, Yalta became a subject of intense controversy. To some extent, it has remained controversial.

Yalta was the second of three wartime conferences among the Big Three (Britain, United States, and Soviet Union) which were represented by Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin, respectively. It had been preceded by the Tehran Conference in 1943, and was followed by the Potsdam Conference in July 1945, which was attended by Stalin, Churchill (who was replaced midpoint by the newly elected British Prime Minister Clement Attlee), and Harry S Truman, who had replaced the late President Roosevelt .

Sukhoi Su-25 Grach (NATO codename: "Frogfoot") is a single-seat, twin-engine close air support jet aircraft, which is armed in Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-2, 30×165 mm dual-barrel auto-cannon and 4,000 kg of rockets, missiles and bombs.

In 2017 Ford of Europe refreshed their Fiesta product. The new model, codenamed B479 replaced the B299 launched in 2008. The B479 continues on the same platform as the B299 and inherits many of the engines and engine families of the previous car.

Headline act is the Fiesta ST with a 150 kW (200PS) version of the 1.5 L GTDi (Ecoboost) 3-cylinder engine. Other Fiesta models have either 3-Cylinder petrol engine in 1.1 L Ti-VCT or 1.0 L Ecoboost (in various power outputs), or a 1.5 L, 4-cylinder diesel.

In addition to the 3 and 5-door hatch bodies, the new Fiesta also has a 'Fiesta Active' version, which is similar to the 5-door hatch, but configured as a higher-riding semi-crossover vehicle. This reflects the trend to this type of vehicle across all size segments.

Shown here is the ST-Line, replacing the previous 'Sport', and capitalising on the strength of the ST sub-brand. The ST-Line has the looks, but is mechanically configured per the other Fiesta models (ST excluded).

[Serge] Hello friend. I see you have finally woken up. It took you long enough…

[Alexi] Hey you’re that guy who saved me.

[Serge] Why yes I am. Serge’s the name. You really shouldn’t have come out into these parts without proper gear kid.

[Alexi] Well It’s my first time out her so I wasn’t all that clear that there are freaking toxic gas clouds EVERYWERE!

[Serge] You get used to it after you’ve been living out in these parts for your whole life… Ya see I’ve been out here since I was a boy. My parents lived out in the Forrest in this cabin to be exact and took shelter here throughout the whole war. And I take every opportunity to make friends out her because in case you can’t tell I don’t get a whole lot of visitors around here…

[Alexi] Well consider me a friend!

[Serge] Good! Now tell me why in god’s name gave you the idea to run out of one of the most guarded cities in all of Russia with no intention of bring a gas mask? Let alone the fact you killed to guards in the process…

[Alexi] Well a year ago the gate was open and….. (You already know the story)

[Serge] Well isn’t that an interesting answer.

[Alexi] I couldn’t help it the Book was just saying all of these mystical things it was almost like I was hypnotized by the words on the page.

[Serge] Well all of that junk was true. Years ago that stuff is what surrounded me now it’s just a barren wasteland full of toxins and ash.

[Alexi] Maybe we can change that all! We could create a whole need world! Al it takes is a thought.

[Serge] ….You’re kidding right…

[Alexi] No! This could be a whole new beginning we could change this whole world back to its former glory!

[Serge] Just make sure you keep this between you and me cause if anyone else found out about your little dream you would be killed and chopped up into dog food… Ok?

[Alexi] ok

[Serge] Good! Now eat up and get a goods night rest because tomorrow we go to HQ…

The Volkswagen Golf Mk5 (codenamed Typ 1K) is a compact car, the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Golf and the successor to the Volkswagen Golf Mk4. Built on the Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) platform, it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in October 2003 and went on sale in Europe one month later.

Mk5 GTI

The Golf GTI features a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline 4-cylinder petrol engine with Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) direct-injection technology, which produces 200PS (147 kW/197 bhp). It is available in both 3-door and 5-door hatchback body shapes, and comes with a choice of either 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) which greatly reduces shift time to only 8ms.

The concept GTI was first shown to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003. The first production model was initially unveiled at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris in September 2004, and went on sale around the world shortly thereafter. At the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2006, the GTI made its long awaited North American debut in 3-door guise (a 5-door variant has since become available), where it is marketed solely under the 'GTI' moniker, with no reference to the Rabbit.

The innovative DSG transmission and the 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) TFSI engine all helped raise the retail price of the car. The Mk5 GTI was named 2007 Automobile of the Year by Automobile Magazine, in December 2006.

This generation marked the only generation in Canada to have the GTI as a separate nameplate rather than a trim of the Golf. When Volkswagen announced the revival of the Golf in the United States & Canada for the 2010 model year, Volkswagen reverted the GTI nameplate as a Golf trim, although the GTI remains a separate nameplate in the United States.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a prequel to the previous games set three decades before the events of the original Metal Gear in 1964, introduces a young Big Boss as a former Green Beret codenamed Naked Snake (the player's character in the game), following up on the revelation that Solid Snake is Big Boss's clone. Naked Snake is virtually identical to Solid Snake from the previous Metal Gear Solid games in terms of appearance, wearing a similar bandanna during Operation: Snake Eater (which he snatched off from The Boss during his battle with her at the end of the Virtuous Mission) and is even voiced by the same voice actors Solid Snake in the Japanese and American versions. He loses his right eye from a muzzle flash burn caused by a young Ocelot and begins to wear his characteristic eye patch late in the game. His primary outfit is a battle dress uniform with changeable camouflage patterns, although he also gets to wear a Soviet prototype of Solid Snake's sneaking suit from Metal Gear Solid as well.

* The most built jet aircraft in history - over 11,000!

* The most built combat aircraft after World War II

* The longest built combat aircraft - used by over 50 air forces on four continents

The MiG-21 had a short range amplified by a design defect where the center of gravity shifted rearwards once two-thirds of the fuel had been used. This made the plane nearly uncontrollable after about 45 minutes. The delta wing, while excellent for a fast-climbing interceptor, meant any form of turning combat led to a rapid loss of speed. However, at 50% fuel, with 2 Atoll missiles, a climb rate of 58,000 ft. per minute was possible.

When Che Guevara was executed in La Higuera, one CIA operative was present--a Cuban-American operative named Félix Rodríguez. Rodríguez, who used the codename "Félix Ramos" in Bolivia and posed as a Bolivian military officer, was secretly debriefed on his role by the CIA's office of the Inspector General in June, 1975. (At the time, he was identified as Benton H. Mizones; the name of the second operative, Gustavo Villoldo, is deleted in the document in the spaces marked [ 06 ].) Rodríguez recounts the details of his mission to Bolivia, where the CIA sent him and Villoldo to assist in the capture of Guevara and destruction of his guerrilla band. Rodríguez and Villoldo became part of a CIA task force in Bolivia that included the case officer for the operation, "Jim", another Cuban American, Mario Osiris Riveron, and two agents in charge of communications in Santa Clara. Rodríguez emerged as the most important member of the group; after a lengthy interrogation of one captured guerrilla, he was instrumental in focusing the efforts of the 2nd Ranger Battalion on the Vallegrande region, where he believed Guevara's rebels were operating. Although he apparently was under CIA instructions to "do everything possible to keep him alive," Rodríguez claims to have transmitted the order to execute Guevara from the Bolivian High Command to the soldiers at La Higueras--he also directed them not to shoot Guevara in the face so that his wounds would appear to be combat-related--and personally informed Che that he would be killed. After the execution, Rodríguez took Che's Rolex watch. He accompanied Guevara’s body back to Vallegrande, where Villoldo “took charge of the remains.”

Omaha Beach was the Allied codename for one of the principal landing points during the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. The beach is approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) long, from Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes to Vierville-sur-Mer.

The untested 29th Infantry Division, joined by 8 companies of Rangers redirected from Pointe du Hoc, were to assault the western flank of the beach. The 1st Infantry Division was given the eastern approach. This was their third amphibious assault of the war, after Africa and Sicily. The primary objective of the Omaha Beach assault was to secure a beachhead between Port-en-Bessin and the Vire River, before pushing southward toward Saint-Lô.

The Allied air bombardment of the beach defenses prior to the landings was largely ineffective: most of the ordnance fell too far inland. The initial naval bombardment proved just as ineffective due to the short time allotted to the naval guns (40 minutes). The result was German defenses left largely intact when the first assault waves hit the beach. Soldiers who were not immediately killed found almost no defilade on the 182 meter-deep beach (at low tide), and what little cover provided by the beach obstacles was nullified by overlapping fields of fire pre-sighted by the Germans. Fogbanks and smoke from artillery fire created low visibility for the men on the beach, and many could only barely make out the cliffs ahead. The carefully planned assault became chaos as wind, waves, and current scattered most of the landing craft far from their assigned targets. Tired and seasick troops, weighed down by wet and sand-filled gear, could not run across the open sand (as often portrayed in movies). Most could only walk or trot the expanse toward the seawall.

The landings at Omaha Beach resulted in heavy American casualties. The official record of the 1st Infantry Division stated that "within 10 minutes of the ramps being lowered, [the leading] company had become inert, leaderless and almost incapable of action. Every officer and sergeant had been killed or wounded... It had become a struggle for survival and rescue". The approximately 40,000 men of V Corps incurred over 3,000 casualties, most in the first few hours.

The Battle of Normandy was fought in 1944 between Nazi Germany in Western Europe and the invading Allied forces as part of the larger conflict of World War II. Over sixty years later, the Normandy invasion, codenamed Operation Overlord, still remains the largest seaborne invasion in history, involving almost three million troops crossing the English Channel from England to Normandy in then German-occupied France.

In 1999, development on a successor to the W163 began under the codename "W164" and spanned a period of 6 years. First design drafts have appeared in 2000 with the first production models in scale 1:4, and in 2001, three full-sized versions have been prepared.[16] By late 2001, the production design styled by Steve Mattin under Peter Pfeiffer was chosen and approved by the executive board in 2002.[17] The design patents were filed in Germany on 10 June 2003, and in the U.S. on 25 July. Prototype testing was conducted throughout 2003 and 2004, concluding in early 2005. The redesigned M-class (chassis name W164) was introduced in April 2005 as a 2006 model after a showing at the North American International Auto Show in January. It was almost entirely new, with a more sporting, aerodynamic look—the coefficient of drag went down to 0.34 compared with the previous generation. Mercedes-Benz has also made the new M-Class 71 mm larger, 150 mm longer and 5 mm lower than the first model. The M-Class was named "Best New Sport Utility Vehicle" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards.

Mercedes-Benz extensively publicised the US$600 million spent to update its factory and add manufacturing space for the new R-Class. According to early automotive press reports, the 2006 M-Class vehicles demonstrated vast improvements in quality.

The W164 platform used for the new M-Class is shared with the new GL-Class and is a unibody type rather than the former (W163) body-on-frame used by the M-Class vehicles produced from 1998–2005. The X164 GL-Class, a longer seven-seater version of the W164 platform, is also available.

New features in the 2006 M-Class include the 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission, optional Active Curve-Illuminating Bi-Xenon headlights which "steer" in the path of the vehicle, and an adjustable-height air suspension. The manual transmission has been dropped. Permanent 4Matic four-wheel drive remained, with one-speed transfer case (no low range), center limited-slip differential and four-wheel electronic traction system (4-ETS). In most countries except the U.S., an Off-Road Pro package with center and rear differential locks, 4-ETS, two-speed transfer case with reduction gearing, and adjustable ground clearance was available as an option increasing the original fording depth from 500 mm to 600 mm.

The AMG version of the W164, the ML 63 AMG, was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show as a limited edition 2007 model. It features a 6.2 L M156 V8 engine producing 510 PS (375 kW) and 465 lb⋅ft (630 N⋅m) that is handcrafted in Germany. The engine is added to an AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission. The 2006 ML 63 AMG can accelerate from 0–60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.8 seconds, or from 0–62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.0 seconds. These impressive features made the ML 63 AMG the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 SUV in the world.[18]

This is similar to the other Lizzies, with a few subtle cosmetic differences/tagging.

Typical prototype “FCC not approved” tagging on the back.

Inside the battery compartment, the serial number tag reads “QUICKM06”.

The rubber port/power cover is missing (they pop out if you pull on them).

There is also a pink sticker tag which reads “JOB: QUICK”, “S. NO: 3”.

PCMCIA eject button has a subtle bump on it.

The speaker port cover is non-standard/looks shrunken.

It boots with a weird non-standard ding & shows that weird “Lindy Diagnostics 0.01E” screen. From there you can get into various diagnostic/testing menus.

"Fat Man" is the codename for the atomic bomb that was detonated over Nagasaki, Japan, by the United States on August 9, 1945. It was the second of the only two nuclear weapons to be used in warfare to date (the other being "Little Boy"), and its detonation caused the third man-made nuclear explosion.
