sorry its a bit samey to yesterday's shot - but i wanted to post some more shots from the display i saw at the reserve

i explained yesterday that they were doing a comical cheek-to-cheek walk - up and down a hill, then up and down, up and down – stopping every time they reached the top of bottom to have a scrap – the bottom shot shows them side by side doing this – the funniest bit was they kept putting their heads down and almost ‘charging’ alongside each other – you can see the determination in their eyes!

Rusty is a handsome 4 year old cocker who weighs 31 pounds. He often has a pensive look on his face but his short little tail telegraphs happiness as measured by the ongoing wags of his short little tail. His eyes are what captured me the first time I met him --they are so expressive and engaging. It is so surprising to me that Rusty and so many of his pals were diagnosed with heartworms when they arrived at Atlanta Pet Rescue. Go to Bali and despite a legal ban you will not pass through a populated area without seeing at least a few fighting cocks. The birds will generally be housed in small woven bamboo baskets where they will wait before their next fight. I didn't actually see a fight but i am assured that they are brutal since the birds have razor blades fixed to their legs! A good bird may survive as many as three fights and the fight order works on a 'winner stays on basis'. Considering that the population of Bali generally believe in reincarnation based on how good you were in your previous life these birds must have done some pretty bad stuff in lives gone by!

The Cock Pub more recently known as Nambucca went on fire around 11.30pm on 16 December. Rumour has it that it started in the basement. The basement was used by local band The Holloways to practice and store their equipment. This impoverished group lost everything. Coming later how I investigated the rumour. 21 December 2008
