Western Wood Cockroach (Parcoblatta americana), Rancho Oso, Santa Barbara County, California - April 2009. This small roach was about 1 cm in body length and was found on a trail at night. Is it one of our native cockroaches and is not a household pest. Of note, this is my tentative species ID and it has not yet been confirmed by an expert.
This guy put in an appearance on a recent trip to Menorca - shot handheld in natural light as he [she?] scuttled along.
Special Birthday Party ...cut dates in half, sandwich with Tofutti Cream Cheeze laced with tumeric.

The last photos taken before we gave up due to the poor conditions and walked back to the lodge. It was raining before we made it.
This large beetle was well hidden in foliage. I may be a click beetle, but any help with ID would be welcome.
These addictive Halloween treats have a mysterious crunch that may be slightly disturbing to your guests. If you want to add a soft bite that may indicate the softer center of a cockroach, you can also add soft nuts like cashews or dried fruit pieces such as raisins or dried apricots. Personally, I prefer a lot of exoskeleton.
For defense, they "hiss" loudly by forcing air through breathing holes in the abdomen.

This one is a female, and seems to be content perched on my forehead. I think it likes to bask in the warmth of my skin.
