Cockroach (species unknown) seen while walking around the grounds of Costa Rica's Tortuguero Evergreen Lodge at night.
In New Orleans, if you're a tourist, you don't want to go outside too early in the morning, before the business have a chance to hose down the sidewalks and street. There were lots of squished cockroaches, but I only took a pic of one. I wouldn't have done that, except that people who haven't been there tend to not believe me when I tell them how omnipresent cockroaches are in Souther Louisiana!
so funny. This is definitely one for Aussies. Every year they have the State of Origin Rugby League match between Queensland and New South Wales. The competition is strong! The Queensland side are known as the Canetoads (Maroon) and New South Wales as the Cockroaches (blue).
This at a bakery in the village of Dayboro.

Dressed in sequins and glittering to the eye, that entertainer sitting at the piano can be none other than Liberoachi!
Designed and folded by Chad Killeen. From one uncut 6-inch square of foil. Not box pleated.
Has the same (almost) design as my hissing roach. the only difference is that this one doesn't have the segmented abdomen. All six legs have two toes and are different sizes.
This isn't the final version.
If you want me to post a CP of it, just ask.

These droppings are the same size and shape as rodent droppings, but they are from cockroaches! Ridges or grooves on droppings distinguish them as from the American Cockroach. The larger brown object in the picture is a cockroach egg case or ootheca. For more information: www.nysipm.cornell.edu/whats_bugging_you/cockroaches/defa...
I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water, when I spotted this little guy next to the trash bin. I put him under a cup and waited for morning to photograph him on top of a canon ball I found.

I found this Lycosid spider one night recently while walking along a creek bed in the McIllwraith Ranges. It was her leap across the surface of the tree trunk to grab a poor old cockroach that drew her to my attention. Dinner secured she she calmly settled down to enjoy herself.
Periplaneta americana or the American Cockcroach, found in Porter's Neck NC. It is one of the most common cockroach species in North America second only to the German Cockroach and typically range in size from one to two inches. I found this one on Sunday under a counter in a kitchen at my work as I was preparing the new kitchen for the summer service. American Cockroaches usually are found in sewers and moist environments but can also be found where food is prepared and stored. They are mostly scavengers and hide behind stoves becuase of the food that falls through the cracks are an easy source of food for these animals.
The female cackroaches lay eggs in sacs called ootheca which generally hold sixteen eggs and are layed on everage every week. This fast rate of reproductivity allows for more offspring to survive and to pass on favorable traits and is a part of how they are hard to eradicate. This adaptation is a part of the animals fitness and will be passed on to its future generations.

This Ootheca was dropped on an adhesive Insect Monitor. Good visual to emphasize the reproductive potential of German Cockroaches. I count 34 nymphs.
