Wood Cockroaches

Family Ectobiidae

This is much larger than the species I find around Hobart. It looks a lot like Acanthinevania sp, but I suspect it isn't as Tony has highlighted two spikes on the back legs and this only seems to have one....

This little fella agreed to pose for a quick session today.

These native cockroaches are always a delight to find.

This one was maybe 1.25 in. long. Very feisty.

Can you believe it? I almost forgot to upload the best photo from Halloween at the Asbury Lanes. I was a bit drunk by this point, so I think my steady hands deserve a round of applause.

 

Incidentally, I can't recall if he said he was a space cockroach or not -- it was some kind of space bug, though. He made the whole thing himself, over a few months -- and he won the costume contest, obviously.
