Bands of Namurian sandstone, siltstone and shale are exposed in a spectacular fashion and were formed over 300 million years ago during the Upper Carboniferous period. The rock layers are rich in fossil formations.
The other day I found a large flock of Cliff Swallows building nests. Today I got to watch them gather mud for their nests.
I had to use my truck as a blind and waited while they came and left. Just before I moved into place I saw a Merlin take a run at them.
Just returned. Two weeks of gorgeous Ireland. Friendly people, stunning landscapes, good food, better ale :-)
We looked out the back of the house this morning and saw it looked like it was going to be a wonderful sunrise.
So, quickly dressed after coffee and a quick drive to the cliff tops, and this was the scene that greeted us.
Standby for more sunrise shots.......
We were driven from Stavanager to a small village where we caught the Lysefjord ferry. Our coach left the ferry at Lysebotn at the end fo the fjord and then drove up the mountain side on a road with 31 hair pin bends including two in a single land 5 km long tunnel. We then crossed the mountain tops for several hours before we came down into a valley near the village of Rysstad. from there we drove down to Kristiansand on the southern coast of Norway. A fantastic road and ferry trip.
A picture of the Klif Orłowski (Orłowo Cliff), one of the most famous landmarks in Gdynia, Poland. The image was underexposed by a stop or two, so shadow detail in the rocks is poor.
